One thing I found very odd - Kujibiki Unbalance TV came in Fall 2006 and hardly anyone mentioned it. I did a search - there were hardly any discussions on any forum (even animesuki barely registered any interest) and no one was blogging the episodes. You'd think that with the huge amount of Genshiken fans around, there would be more interest. Unfortunately most people prefered to adopt the "I'm disappointed that this is not Genshiken and therefore I'm going to ignore this" attitude.

Anyhow, I just finished it and while initially the character designs took a while to get used to, I ended up finding it immensely entertaining. I didn't know what to expect while watching this show and I ended up getting elements of comedy, action, sci-fi, slice-of-high-school-life, drama, tragedy, mecha, conspiracies, characters that are not what they seem, childhood friends, romance, ninjas, aliens plus the usual suspects of bits of moe, loli, ecchi, yuri, incest, etc.
I liked the theme songs and I liked how, similarly to Genshiken, EVERY ED has different animation that reflects the events of the episode. I do however think that Koyuki is a rip-off of My:Hime's Alyssa Sears.

Now it sounds like I'm giving this show my highest recommendations and praising this but while I was entertained, two factors stop me from giving it my highest recommendations:

(1)Some things are still not clear to me by the end of the story(I'll be vague to avoid spoilers but please give me spoiler answers):
(a)What are Kasumi's motives?
(b)What is Ritsuko's motives in the student council? She makes allusions about changing something but what?
(c)In ep 9 (the aliens episode), what is the deal with the missile at the end? Who is the girl in the aliens' photo?

(2)I'm also disappointed with how Chihiro Enomoto acted in the last 4 episodes. I disliked defeatist wimps. Also, I disliked how he acted like typical male leads in harem anime with regards to how the love triangle played out.

Nonetheless I liked this show and I think it should have gotten more attention. Anyone else watched it and liked it? By the way, which character do you find the hottest in the show?

I've only watched the first six episodes of this series, namely because that's all I could find. I really want to see the rest. I'm guessing Media Blasters may pick this series up down the road so I'll only get to watch it then. I really did like the first episode. It was wacky and outrageously funny, but the episodes after that just went downhill IMO. Though, I still do want to see the rest.

The 1st episode was for me the least satisfactory. It had me going "eh?" It improved in ep 2 and really started to hit the high gear around ep 7 onwards.

::does a quick check online::

Er, unless you have sources I don't, it looks like there's a perfectly good reason nobody has talked about this show all that much... I myself wanted to check it out, but "that" sort of made it impossible. Am I missing something?

Wasn't KujiUn made as a gift for Genshiken fans?

So, you're talking about the re-designed Kujibiki Unbalance (http://www.kujian.info/), yes?

I found it interesting when I saw images of the new character designs. How they tweaked the characters and the story from what we saw with the Genshiken release. I don't think it was broadcast on TV but has been released direct to DVD (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/search.html?type=GC&restrict=DVD&strict=&word=kujibiki+unbalance).

Kujibiki TV? It was broadcast (http://cal.syoboi.jp/tid/948/time), by quite a few stations actually.

Yes.
I haven't seen the other version (the original that is) but what I saw in the manga didn't seem like something for me. This new version - I loved it.

I saw some of it, but never really bothered to finish it. It's one of the many series I simply lost track of. There is a definite disadvantage to trying to juggle too much at once. Something I'm hoping I can solve in the future.

For the few people that have seen at least a couple of episodes, is really so bad that nobody cares about it? I hope that media blasters someday licenses it with the ovas and second season of Genshiken.

People seem to either love it or think it's garbage. Some of the latter probably just don't give it enough time, but regardless it wasn't widely watched by us (a.k.a. people outside of Japan) because it's IP is controlled by that company.

I heard about this series after the early decision of no Genshiken second season. Like many on the forums, I was disappointed, but I was willing to give it a chance (if only to see the embedded Genshiken eps.

Thing is, it fell off my radar. The only thing I have seen connected to this series is the character art profiles section in a recent Newtype USA. I didn't even know production was done.

The character designs did not appeal to me. With the original character designs, you could tell the characters were all from the same school (I will grant there were outlandish elements, the helmet and goggles being props of the offices as an example), but with the new character designs and color schemes, I thought at first glance everyone was from a different school.

If it ever comes out, I willing to check it out.

Heh, I rather doubt that's the reason. It hasn't meant anything for any of their other shows. Some stuff just slips through the cracks, unfortunately, all for no particular reason.
