Been watching the countdown all week. o(^-^)o Not too much information on it, aside from the musicians and a sample music track, but they said they're going to update it every weekday.

I hope they post some new characters soon. And a solid release date would be nice too. Man I can't wait for this.

And so the hype machine starts. I dunno, this is gonna be a great game but as I've kepy saying, it needs online play.

But yeah, he's a genius, but I want more info other than knowing Yuzo Koshiro is doing some of the music.

Here's another voice anticipating this game. I'm just kind of annoyed that not even the characters section is up with the confirmed characters. Maybe Nintendo just wants to update little at a time with some surprises. Also, looking at the one stage, are they going to be based on real-time?

If popular Nintendo francises like Mario Kart and Pokemon have online play, I don't know why they would fuck up Smash Bros. :P

Well, let's be honest, the current Wii schedule is sorely lacking for the rest of the year and with the news that Metroid Prime 3 is coming out this year, either this game or Mario Galaxy is going to take the hit and move to 2008.

Nintendo have stated that we would be playing Mario on the Wii sometime this year so I'd expect a November release for Mario Galaxy (to, y'know, counter a couple of other games being released on rival consoles at that time which may sell a few copies...) and so can't honestly see Smash Bros coming before Jan/Feb 08 in Japan.

This is literally the most use I've gotten from the Wii since December. I Didn't turn it on, but I did think about it when reading this site.

Except they could push it back to '08 and still not be liars since Super Paper Mario just came out.

If nothing else at least the music will be amazing. I wonder if certain composers signing onto the project give hints to any new characters.

Well, yeah, but I think it's a safe bet they were refering to Galaxy rather than Paper when they said we'd be playing Mario this year.

I take it your line of thought is the following. That perhaps they sought out certain composers because they created pieces related to certain characters that will be in the game. It's a nice thought and may hold true for a select few composers. However in reality it's probably best to avoid getting your hopes up for anyone outside Nintendo controlled characters or already confirmed characters such as Snake for example.

Ditto. That's pretty awesome. If for some strange reason there where any characters from Chrono Trigger in this game, I'd die happy.

Oddly enough, you'd think they would have credited him for the original Mario Party....

That's what I'm really looking forward to. I can't wait to test my skills against some people here and people all over the world.

I don't really have my hopes up for anyone being in at the moment. Snake was my big "AWESOME!" moment so I'm pretty happy for that. So anyone else interesting is icing on the cake. That and an awesome list of composers who're "retooling" old Nintendo themes and maybe even new music really makes me want the game and soundtrack.

Though I've loved the cast I've honestly never cared much for Smash's gameplay. Even with friends I've found most other multiplayer games to have more staying power. Still, my ears are open.

One of the composers on the list was involved in a Japanese-only game series that we Westerners may find very interesting...

They probably were, I'm just saying that its not a guarantee that Galaxy will come out this year and that they could later say they weren't wrong because SPM did come out regardless of what they may have been referring to originally.

Cho Aniki love! Seriously, never mind the homoerotic imagery, these games are really great.

I challenge you to play one or more of them and not at least crack a smile. They're excellent shups too.

I think it's kind of a shame that developers feel pressured to commit to release schedules. I very much prefer the Blizzard attitude of "It'll ship when it's ready (so stop fucking asking us already)." Much as I hope Nintendo does get both of these games out this year, I'd rather have both be awesome in 2008 than mediocre this fall.

I don't think you need to worry on that score. Two reasons:

1) When have Nintendo ever not delayed a major game that they didn't feel was ready? :) (Case in point: Metroid Prime - was going to be launch-or-soon-after, then May, now August. I think there were hints of an earlier date for Mario Galaxy too. Every Zelda game is delayed by about a year, including the latest DS effort. And on, and on.)

2) Both these games were obviously mostly done for a while now. Spending a lot of time on the finishing touches is obviously what makes a decent game into a great one, though.

This game isn't particularly exciting for me because it's a multi-player game, and in line with Nintendo philosophy that means 'friends' in the same place as you, which obviously isn't going to happen. So far as I know there isn't any plan for online play, although maybe they changed it, who knows. It probably wouldn't be as much fun online anyway.
