ANN has the story here:
okay, their site has spent 5 minutes not loading for me, but it's up in the main news section.
What I have to say: w00t!!! Most likely they'll keep the original cast, I hope. So excited!!

Haha...oh wow.
I wonder how they are going to make Miyuki miserable this time?

YAY! :D
Maybe we'll now get the second season (with season 1 dub cast) released over here. *hint hint* *wink wink* *nudge nudge*

Yeah, there's something wrong with the site. I gave up trying to load it after a couple of minutes.
Good to hear.
As I can't get the site to load: OVA? TV? Continuing? Reboot? Alternate universe?

Not sure what to hope for. The No Mercy OVA was fun. Any with the same seiyuus would do. I'm amazed that YUA is considered popular enough to resurrect. Perhaps the revival of AMG as an anime, & the relaxation popularity of softer slice-of-life shows like Aria has had an influence.
Make Miyuki miserable? Change her eye colours again :( Back to blue please.

The July issue of Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine (on sale May 25) announced that a new television anime adaptation of Kōsuke Fujishima's You're Under Arrest police comedy manga is in production. The issue also previewed artwork being drawn for the series.
Onetime Gunbuster mechanical designer and Burst Angel director Kōichi Ōhata will direct, and Natsuko Takahashi (Spiral, Gakuen Heaven) will oversee the scripts. Although Ōhata and Takahashi are new to the You're Under Arrest franchise, Atsuko Nakajima (Ranma ½, GetBackers) will return to adapt Fujishima's characters as she did for every animated incarnation since the original video series.

There's an unwritten rule out there that says there must always be more YUA anime than AMG, even though YUA has less than 1/4 of the manga volumes to work from than AMG. :P
I like YUA myself, so I'm excited to see more done. Maybe we'll finally get somebody to pick up the second season now (gives ADV a long hard look...).

Oh yes!!! :D More Miyuki and Natsumi goodness. Although it's probably going to be more Miyuki rather than Natsumi considering the events at the end of 2nd season with Natsumi transferred out to an elite unit.

DUUUUDE! :D I became rabid when I read this! And where's Jimmy M on this?
If they can make it interesting again, I'm excited for it. YUA was always sort of a "cult show" for me after picking it up a few years ago. So is this going to add to the continuum or is it going to be a retelling?

The girls have split & re-united before don't forget. In the OVAs & between season 1 & the movie.
They belong together & need each other. Right from the first OVA episodes when Miyuki told Natsumi, that she, Miyuki, had chosen her & had her transferred to be her partner. Not quite shoujo-ai, but something deeper than sisterly need perhaps. Maybe I'm too anime-ized :P

Right here, my friend. More YUA is always a good thing. :) Very good news indeed.
Now if only the 2nd season & No Mercy OVA were licenced by someone in R1 land...Hopefully that will happen soon.

Atsuko Nakajima's character designs keep getting better and better as time goes by, so to see her generate a new set of Fujishima adaptations is great news.
Koichi Ohata makes a fine mechanical designer, but a terrible director, so it depresses me to hear he'll be mishandling directing this new series. Bah! This could've been Kazuhiro Furuhashi's chance to make a grand return to the franchise after a decade. Or, heck, I know everyone's got their own problems with the Patlabor movie minus Patlabors known as the YUA movie (I happen to like it a lot), but I look at other Junji Nishimura-helmed projects (Kyo Kara Maoh!, Simoun), and conclude that he'd also be a much better choice than Ohata. Oh well. I guess there's not much you can do about studio politics, or scheduling conflicts, or individual interest, or...

as long as they kill kenny off i'll be happy :)
shame season 2 and the ova wasnt licensed for US.
Being YUA fan I'm looking foward to the new episodoes. I'm hoping a decent animation studio will aniamte this show. Hopefully this this new series starting, we will get Season 2 of YUA (and other YUA features) on DVD or Bluray in the near future.

I guess the You're Under Arrest Specials on TV (which were mostly shorts and one full-length TV episode) doesn't count as a season, eh? ;)
Still, I hope this latest YUA TV series picks up where YUA2 2 left off and we finally get some bloody advancement of the Miyuki-Ken romance.

It would be nice, but I'm kind of resigned that at this point they're going to be like Lupin and Fujiko, always interested, but never any longterm payoff... :)

I'm guessing what happened at the snow-covered hot springs resort has Miyuki accepting Ken's likely marriage proposal although we were never privy to what was said between the two of them.

Its not so simple.
Miyuki is in love with her job, vocation & career (not to mention her car!) as much as she might be with Ken - so he has rivals. Then there is Natsumi who Miyuki thinks needs looking out for as well.
So Ken, who would have trouble getting close to a normal girl, has to hope Miyuki's (& Natsumi's) destinies make Miyuki more susceptible to considering him as a husband. Ken needs help!

No, its not that complicated. They are just trapped by the fact that the people in charge of YUA are allergic to change.

Hmmm, didn't that last scene just have Ken f'n up again on his confession, but Miyuki gets the gist of it and says that she'll wait for him to propose properly?
Still, I hope that if they decide to introduce any new characters (and they'd be dumb not too), that they at least give them a bit more spotlight. You'd think from the first few episodes in season 2 that Saori would be the new focus, but she only had 1-2 dedicated episodes to her throughout the entire series. And of course, Strike Otoko *must* be in it (Tenchuuu!!!). :D

"No Mercy" OVA was the last YUA, a different reality, so they are or were toying with new ideas.
Otherwise YUA is in the same rut as AMG, without the excuse of following the manga writer.
Using the proper Miyuki & Natsumi, they could easily do more thrilling, police crime-busting stories. Series 1 had some good episodes, & there was the movie. Lots of potential.

Indeed there is. I'm not getting my hopes up though.

That is definitely good news to me. I love the franchise and more of it will always be welcomed by me. I really hope that someone licenses the Season 2 TV now though, because I really want to see what more this franchise has to offer.

Excellent news !! and having the great Atsuko Nakajima to do the characters design again is the best part about it for me :) now if they keep the original seiyuu i'll be a happy man :neko:

Have you forgotten about Natsumi's beau Tokairin? ;)
