View Full Version : How animated are you while watching anime?

I never used to move about or be animated while watching tv until I really got into anime. Now it's a regular thing for me to be slapping knees and writhing about all over the place while laughing when watching shows like Hayate no Gotoku, Lucky Star, or Haruhi. There is something energizing about these shows that makes me want to express myself by gesture during funny moments, even though I watch alone.

Is everybody else the same or different and in what way?

A few short examples

While watching Code Geass 10, I started pumping my fists in the air repeated as Kallen laid the smackdown in Guren Mark II.

While watching Lucky Star 9, I started slapping my knee, laughing loudly during the Lucky Channel... Mi-Mi-Miracle! Minoru-run!

I was curled up in the fetal position when Nanoha ended the mock battle in StrikerS 8

I cried for 45 minutes after finishing Air, and consequently can no longer listen to "Aozora" without tearing up.

So yeah, anime runs the gamut of my emotions a lot of the time.

I'm usually pretty stationary, but I have been known to "geek out" at something either intensely cute, intensely awesome.

I'm also pretty still when watching anime, proabaly becasue I watch most of my anime late at night. Which can beg the question did I fall asleep because the anime was boring or because I was genuinly tired.

I'm still for the most part, but I do get "animated" depending on a big events or comedy. When you get a big "revelation" or something that makes you go "yeah, that rocked!" I get a big goofy grin on my face heh. I've never really pumped my fists in the air or something like that. I have burst out laughing though while watching Cromartie and things like that.

All the hell over the place and scaring my neighbors with hideously loud laughter.

I don't really "get into" anime that often in the way the rest of you seem to; the more I'm enjoying a show the less I move because I'm gripped by it.

I do get quite animated, however, in that I don't usually just sit and watch shows. I do the ironing. Or the washing up. Or anything, essentially, to keep me occupied; because most of the anime I watch are pretentious waffly dramas, or I'm watching them without subtitles, I need to keep myself occupied during the boring talkie bits or when I'm too lost with the dialogue.

Essentially, I have the attention span of a goldfish. But how else are you supposed to watch Lain?

So I was just watching Divergence Eve and I barely moved because I was so absorbed. I find that I'm pretty still during the good stuff; the more I fidget, the less I'm enjoying it. (I fidgeted much while watching Gravion, for example.)

I have been known to wake others up with either my laughter, or yelling at the screen when watching anime. So yeah, I get pretty lively when watching it. :D

Rarely animated when watching anime unless you count face movements, i.e. smiles, grins, grimaces, etc. Otherwise, I generally sit quietly and watch the show with the occasional getting off the seat/sofa to get snacks and refreshments. The more I'm interested in a show, the more focused I am on the show.

On the first viewing, I'm usually a little less animated because of not wanting to miss the subtitles. For stuff I like and watch over and over, I'm pretty animated during rewatches. Yelling at the screen, laughing enough to make my deaf dog jump, etc etc.

Then again, I'm the same way when watching movies and favorite TV shows :sd:

I marathoned Lain, overnight, sitting on my bed in the dark.

So I was just watching Divergence Eve and I barely moved because I was so absorbed. I find that I'm pretty still during the good stuff; the more I fidget, the less I'm enjoying it. (I fidgeted much while watching Gravion, for example.)Interestingly that's the complete opposite of me. I personally find that the less animated I am when I'm watching an anime, the less I enjoyed it overall. I find that the best anime are the ones that provoke some sort of reaction from me, whether it's rolling around with laughter at something hilarious, screaming at the TV when a favorite character dies or letting out a gasp when something unbelievable is revealed.

The occasional shaking of the fist when a character does something 'GAR' or wholly awesome beyond their character.

Kind of similar. I just sit and watch and bask in the pretty pictures. I'll laugh out loud if there's something genuinely funny, but that's really about it. If I'm fidgeting, it means the show is boring me.

I do a lot of a raucous laughter and big goofy grins on my face. I tend to yell at the TV when a character does something stupid (To date, the show I've yelled at the most was Fate/Stay Night and it was only the first two discs!). For more serious shows (the vast majority of my collection), I sit still enthralled (unless it sucks).

I cry, laugh, yell at the characters, do cutesy stuff and scare my cat. I'm pretty animated, I guess it depends on the show. The darker the show the more still I sit. Violent shows make me jump in joy, you get the point.

I tend to be fairly sedate with my body movements, but I definitely laugh quite a bit when watching certain shows. When my brother is around, he sometimes gets annoyed and makes fun of my laughter. :P

Comedy aside, I don't move much at all when watching entertainment. But then, I'm a very stoic individual. I don't think I've cried watching a movie, not once.

I'm animated in the sense of stuff like laughing at a scene on occasion. However I don't exactly jump up and down while doing backflips. Especially since I want to be careful and well I don't live by myself so go figure. Although I must admit I am tempted to do things like make hand movements and repeat certain lines. Sometimes that does end up happening.

I'll laugh extremely loudly in my chair at Lucky Channel and rock back and forth in my computer chair. My sister occasionally will pop in and ask "What's so damn funny??"

Nah! I usually just lay on my bed sideways while watching anime in my room. No real gestures, other than the occasional grin or small laugh.

I'll refrain from commenting on how animated I am while watching hentai for the good of children everywhere. :P

It depends on the show, honestly. I've been known to groan out-loud and quite literally *headdesk* during something painful... like St. Michael Gakuen, or Genocyber 5, or Star of David 4, even Riki-Oh 2... the kind of thing you'd show someone you hate just so they'll leave you alone permanently (because the overwhelming suck has rendered them braindead)... yet if I'm watching something I enjoy, something involving smack-down giving giant robots, anything involving martial arts that include removing a part of the opponent's body, or cute children getting scared by pedophilia filled big sisters, anything from a chuckle to full-on rolling can happen. I honestly don't think I could breathe for minutes at a time the first time I saw Puni Puni Poemi, I clapped like a happy child with learning disabilities when I saw Ichigo Marshmallow Episode 0, and I think the last time I was literally consumed with so much joy that I just kind of stared at the screen with my jaw in my lap was in Hokuto no Ken: Raou Den Junai no Shou, seeing something I saw so many years ago on an nth generation tape with stilted movement and bizarre optical special effects completely re-animated to the highest quality that modern animation can provide.

It's also worth pointing out that, quite often, I watch stuff with headphones on to avoid bothering those around me. I try to refrain from becoming too animated... but sometimes it happens anyway.

Did I growl "Omae wa mou, shindeiru! Bitch!" after watching Kenshirou perform the Hokuto Hyakurekken totally unprovoked, forcing both my wife and cat to stop what they were doing and stare at me like a freak? Well, I'm not saying I did... and I'm not saying I didn't. I'm just saying that, yes, when having fun I tend to get a little animated.

I get the same way around live action movies I enjoy. Give me anything with a murderous chimpanzee, exploding ninjas, or no less than 4 zombies and you'll find me cheering and kicking things over with glee.

Ever seen a chimp clap with his feet? Yeah, that could be me when I'm thoroughly enjoying a good comedy or melodramatic cheese. Not sure if that's something to be proud of though. :sd:

That scene made me much less animated than I usually am. I was sitting down, and suddenly my jaw dropped, and I sat motionless holding a glass of cola right where it was when the scene started. I just froze!

Not much, unless it's some cheesy over the top melodrama that has me writhing in embarrassment for the characters, or some really crazy show that has me bouncing with giddiness, I usually just watch and laugh/smile/cry at appropriate moments.

I barely move, and infact try to stay as still as possible now (with my head atleast) as my ATH-900 Headphones can oddly pick up and amplify noises of moving my jaw/neck, and if anything rubs up against the cord... very odd.

But anyways, I rarely moved before that anyhow. Sometimes I might smirk, but that's it.

I hit the screenshot button a lot, but mostly I'm pretty stationary and focused. Lucky Star is an exception. If someone else is home, I tend to go find them to describe a particularly good scene (the cellphone stuff and the wonderful concept of a cake buffet, specifically. mmm cake buffet...)

Yeah, the first time it was kind of the whole "hair on your back standing up" kind of shock and awe, but after a couple of minutes I just couldn't keep my legs still. :)

What the HELL are you all talking about??? Don't tease the animals! :grr:

I get...seriously animated. Especially with comedies(I've almost killed myself several times by going over backwards in my chair), and something like Ippo, which gets me so pumped I have to go exercise after a couple episodes. It's like fire in the belly! Something with a great combo of music & action, suchlike Noir and Berserk will get me totally fired up.

If you don't know, and you're watching anime, you'll know when you see it. Most people probably already know about the scene, but if you're lucky enough not to... try to keep it that way and be as blown away as we were the first time.

If you have no intention of watching Haruhi, then just knowing it's a scene from Haruhi is good enough, I guess :sd:

If I'm not completely engrossed and still, my viewings are only ever interrupted by abrupt laughter and hurling insults at exceptionally frustrating or vile characters. I remember well the number of times that I pointed at the screen while shouting, "You Fucking Bitch!!" at Evangelion's Asuka, during my first viewing of her especially horrid moments in the show.

I didn't realize how animated I was until I started watching anime with my boyfriend. On our first watching of Azumanga Daioh I did this jump/lunge forward thing during a funny tirade. The problem is that usually I am siting on my beanbag on the floor while watching but my boyfriend wanted to watch on the top bunk of my bunkbed...so when I did my jump/lunge forward thing I started to fly of my bed but luckly my boyfriend caught me mid-air and pulled me back up (Hehe...boyfriend grappling hook!). So now we watch on the floor and he moves everything potentially dangerous a good 4 ft from me. I know now that I am really animated...but that doesn't stop me any!!! :D

I'm usually watching anime from my bed. The only moving I do is when I want to adjust my pillow to be more comfortable.

If I'm watching anime from my computer and the music and mood gets me excited, then yes, I do jump around the room all excited like I'm a retard. :sd:
