The long title says it all :P I personally would like to see Fullmetal Alchemist remade to follow the storyline of the manga. How about you?
Easiest question EVAR. Samurai Girl Real Bout High School. Holy Moses, even the animation was incompetent on that show, which isn't something I often say about Gonzo. The story? I guess there was one, but it sure didn't accomplish anything except piss me off and waste my money.

Damn that is a long title.
Of the series that I have both manga and anime of, I am going to have to cast my vote for Excel Saga.
Now most folks it seems really hate this anime, and that doesn't surprise me one bit. But the manga is much better and much funnier. Of course (fantisizing here since it ain't gonna happen) if it did get H.U Treatment, I'd rather Nabeshin not be allowed anywhere near it.
Also, I would say Trigun, except that Nightow-sensei has said several times that he was completely satisfied with the way the anime turned out, and that any Trigun Ultimate would be Super-Depressing.

I think Gantz, I think that really needs to be restarted. But then again, I'm one of the few that actually enjoyed the ending of the anime series.

I can definitely expect a few people will mention Negima on this thread (personally, I'm fine with the way Xebec handled the first half, with me preferring that the we rush ahead right into the Kyoto arc).

The last story arc was so touching I cried at the end. The GTO manga I daresay has the best mix of comedy and drama I've personally ever seen.

No, that is not the last story arc. The last arc involves dealing with that one messed up kid and the messed up woman principal. So much time has passed that I've forgotten their names.

Yeah, thats where my mind is to. I can remember the basics but I'm fuzzy on the specific details. Bah, this is making me want to read all of my volumes over again
To get back on topic though I'd really like to see a version of Emma that follows the manga literally after having the second half of the series royally screwed up.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Berserk yet. In my case, I'd probably go with Beck. Since the Hellsing OAV is animated by a different studio than the tv series, I'd hand the task of animation production over to Kyoto Animation. I'd love to see the Beck concert scenes animated the way ep 12 of Haruhi was done. The OAV series would start after ep 25, so that we'd get to see their US tour.

Berserk didn't divert from its counterpart too much. It just didn't cover much of the storyline.

This post turned me into a puddle of fangirl. BECK + Kyoto Ani = :virgin: . And yes, BECK is what I want to get a redo. The American Tour Arc deserves more than just a clipshow, damnit :grr: ! Plus, while I eventually got used to them (and grew to love most of them), concerts where I'm not staring at blob people would be very, very nice.

After the FMA manga will end I would like very much a remake fully base on the manga storyline.
Not that the anime was bad, in fact it was almost perfect, it's just that I want MORE FMA!

I second Excel Saga.
Also, despite my love of the Sailor Moon anime, I'd love it if they made a "Sailor Moon Ultimate" that stuck closely to the manga. Mainly I just want them to make more Sailor Moon, and this seems like a good choice of how to go about it.

I definitely agree with that! I love Tenchi, but the last OVA wasn't as good as I had hoped!

Among recent Manga/Anime :
Elfen Lied : The anime doesn't even try to touch the "plot" it just mostly concentrate only on the bloody parts and let's not talk about the rushed ending.
Among older Manga/Anime :
G.U.N.N.M. : A real TV serie and, unlike the OVA, supervised by Yukito Kishiro.
Akira : While the movie is a classic I always find it disappointing and rather pointless compared to the manga, I would love to have an full length Akira TV serie.

I'd love to see an Akira that's closer to the manga.
Another series I think deserves a Hellsing Treatment is NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind. On a related note, I wonder how it would turn out if Peter Jackson tried to give it a LotR Treatment? :)

The long title says it all
It did not say it all to me, but reading the thread has allowed me to deduce that "the Hellsing Ultimate Treatment" probably refers to an anime that is more complete and/or faithful to the original manga than what is currently available.
If that is correct then I would cast a vote for Gunsmith Cats.
I watched the Gunsmith Cats Bulletproof! OVA a few years ago. I enjoyed it, but did not feel any need for more and have not yet watched it again, though I plan to watch it soon.
But I have just finished the first volume of the Gunsmith Cats revised edition manga from Dark Horse, and I want more of that. More Rally. Especially more Minnie-May :> .
If I have missed the point of this thread ... well, it is not the first time, and probably will not be the last. :P (That smiley looks a bit more imbecilic than I am comfortable with, but it might be appropriate :sd: )

Right, but the first 3 or so volumes of the manga weren't/were barely touched on in the anime, and with a "remake" they'd have a chance to add in the Skull Knight (or rather, return him to the story).

Sailor Moon Ultimate? One that sticks to closer to the manga? Then Mamoru wouldn't portrayed as some ass who is just going along with what fate tells him instead of really loving Usagi; Usagi wouldn't be nearly as much of a selfish spoiled cry-baby. Sailor Venus wouldn't just be another scout. Uranus and Neptune wouldn't be such *itches for most of their appearances. :P
Yes, I'd love a Sailor Moon Ultimate (even though I do enjoy the anime, it pales versus the manga a lot)

But the villians would also have little/no character development, most of the comedy would be gone, and (to me personally) Usagi would be much less endearing. My ideal version of Sailor Moon would combine the best elements of both versions, but I somehow feel that's desperately unlikely.

True on the villains. In particular the first season added some nice villain development... just wish it had done so in-line with who the four generals were in the manga (the one thing that would have made the Nephlite/Naru romance even more touching). While a lot of the changes/additions the anime made annoy me, I do think that addition, and the Doom Tree arc were very good additions.
Interesting that you would find Usagi less endearing. I found her more endearing after reading the manga, because of her inner strength that the anime often ignores except for final fights and in Stars. She was more likable, in the manga, to me as a whole person rather than being mostly annoying with some good points. :sd:
Ah, an ideal world, yep the best of the anime and the manga would be combined, but alas, an unlikely occurrence. I think the anime could be awesome if it was similar to what it is now, but with out changing so many major parts of the story for seemingly no reason.
And while I'm posting, Angel Sanctuary is so in need of Ultimate treatment. That little teaser OVA doesn't do justice to the 20-21 volume manga at all. Ditto Kare Kano, whose manga not only tells only a few chapters of manga, but also changed the over all feel of the story so much that I hate the anime and love the manga.
And while it isn't licensed, Sensual Phrase! Talk about divergence! The anime focuses mostly on the band, and Aine doesn't even enter the series until half way through. A lot of characters are changed in terms of roles and personality and all. Even though it starts with the band forming, it is also different there from what their formation is in the manga. I don't think I'd like it much even if it were licensed. I wonder, though...an anime that actually goes with the manga. Would it be borderline hentai? :D

I would love to see more Kenshin following the last parts of the manga.
I am a humongous FMA anime fan. It is one of my all time favorites, but after the manga ends it's run, I would love for someone to adapt the manga story line. I would also love more FMA anime based off of what they finished in the anime. I just want more FMA, please :D !

G.U.N.N.M. : A real TV serie and, unlike the OVA, supervised by Yukito Kishiro.
I dunno, has Yukito Kishiro's anger/disappointment/rage waned any, in the years following the first OVA? I'd like to think [hope] so. Maybe then he might be willing to allow a studio like I.G animate his series the way it should've been done to begin with.

Yeah. Some of the animation of the Xebec series was disappointing and the fanservice paled compared to the manga, but it was at least entertaining.
I so wish the beautiful animation and BGM of Negima!? had been used on a manga-faithful adaptation. I'd even take something like the Spring Special with it being mostly manga-faithful but with some stupid random crap like Chupabacuras thrown in by Akishinbo.

My votes go for FMA, Akira, Nausicaa, Rurouni Kenshin, Chobits, Tokyo Babylon, and if CLAMP ever gets around to finishing it, X/1999. Personally I was satisfied enough by PGSM that to me having yet another remake of Sailor Moon would seem redundant and pointless to me.

Definitely have to throw in second (third?) votes for the Kenshin Enishi arc and pretty much all of Angel Sanctuary. I think the action-y manga series get more out of an anime treatment, so a bunch of cool, melodramatic series just kind of fall off my list (esp. Hanadan/Boys over Flowers, Fruits Basket).
But these never did get the treatment they deserved:
- Please Save My Earth(3hr OAV cut from throughout the 21 vol story? WTF?)
- Basara (13 ep TV teaser from first 5 of 24 vols)
- Trigun (I don't care if it'd be depressing as all get-out, the manga is way freakier than the anime but explains everything better)
- Gravitation (The whole New York arc got dropped, which made the ending of the 13 ep TV feel rushed and out-of-place)
- Bastard (It's old and old-school, and the manga has its own weird issues, but the 6 ep OAV didn't even make it to the actual continuing plot)
- Clover (A 7 min "special" by Madhouse is just a long trailer, dammit, and this beautiful manga and complex, intriguing story deserved way better)
Tried to think of more shounen shows that got the axe too early, but in most cases, I was cool with both the anime and the manga treatment for different reasons *shrug*. Now if there were a thread about great manga that should be/have been animated...

I forgot about Love Hina! I would certainly love more of that show! GTO was mentioned, and I second that.

Seconding GateCrasher here and smacking my forehead, I also nominate (how in the hell could I have forgotten it??) NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind.
The movie is great, but the original manga is just... wow. Of course very little of the comic had been written by the time the movie came out (in fact it would continue on and off for the next nine years).
I will also second Love Hina. I liked the manga (even with TP's shoddy editing). What little of the anime I have seen just... wasn't good at all.
I will not second Kenshin or Fruba since those tended to follow the original pretty closely (filler notwithstanding), and I haven't seen GTO or Berserk, and I stopped reading KareKano at Vol. 10.

Well, yeah, the original 6 episode series is the starting point for the manga but it then goes wildly in its own direction with a lot of content I'd love to see animated. So hush you, I say it counts!
I personally would want to see the final arc of Rurouni Kenshin animated. The stupid Seisou Hen OAV was definitely not the best way to close the anime series. I want to see more than five seconds of Kenshin vs. Enishi!
Gantz redone would be pretty awesome. The pacing of the anime is quite slow in comparison to the action of the manga.
More Full Metal Alchemist is something I can't see happening, since the anime practically wrapped things up in their own way.

Third! I don't know what GONZO was thinking when they made RBHS. I guess they thought they needed to add in generic anime super battles or something to make it worthwhile, and fell flat. It was one of the early titles I saw when I was new to anime and I'm surprised I didn't give up on anime altogether after seeing this. It could be worse, at least TP didn't make that live-action movie that was rumored.
