So, there's a mere 9 days until the, albeit toned down, chaos starts.
Dunno about anyone else but this is equally one of the most fun and stressful times of the year for me, trying to keep up with every video, pic and bit of news released :sd:

Anyway, MS have announced that they will be once again putting up videos, demos and the MS conference on Live.

Games mentioned include:

Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation (NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc.)
Assassins Creed (Ubisoft)
BioShock (2K)
Blue Dragon (Microsoft Game Studios)
Burnout Paradise (Electronic Arts Inc.)
CALL OF DUTY 4: MODERN WARFARE (Activision)
FIFA Soccer 08 (Electronic Arts)
Guitar Hero III (Activision/RedOctane)
Lost Odyssey (Microsoft Game Studios)
Madden NFL 08 (Electronic Arts)
NCAA Football 08 (Electronic Arts)
Need for Speed: ProStreet (Electronic Arts)
Project Gotham Racing 4 (Microsoft Game Studios)
The Simpsons Game (Electronic Arts)
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 (Electronic Arts)
WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 (THQ)

MS have also mentioned "many surprises". We shall see.

I'm going to like this E3 a lot more than I did the past ones. Before it was so hard for bloggers, podcasters, online journalists etc to get good info on playable games and stuff because the most that was exclusive to them were behind closed doors guided playthroughs. Not to mention forums sparking with mad fanboys who are at the event giving useless information. Now we will get some real dirt with upcoming games.

The past E3's were most about the spectacle then game news and demos. This E3 seems like it's gaming press only instead of ten hour waits to try the Wii. I do miss the big event and now have a void where E3 used to be but hopefully this one picks up the slack. My only disappointment will be if this turns out to be more "media controlled" rather then having people post videos, images, and impressions at will like they did last year. Still though you're replacing one set of fanboys with another.

Still though you're replacing one set of fanboys with another.

I was worried mainly about certain media outlets holding exclusive E3 content where they otherwise wouldn't be. I got most of my E3 news from 1up and Teamxbox, and they didn't hold back, there was a story every two hours on something new, most of the times on the forums the admins would post stuff. I'm not worried about them, but I don't know, one source holds something close to the vest for a cover story, and that same story could be posted on a gaming blog for free. Though I don't know if the Blogosphere counds as the press.

And I disagree with the "changing of the fanboys" comments. Sure there are gaming journalists who are biased to a certain console, so they may gloss over a certain console and be more scrutinizing of another, but not many press outlets are about kissing ass and glossing over. I know 1up for sure will be quite scrutinizing on all sides. You should have heard their podcasts at the event last year. Now that publishers won't be able to use the smoke and mirrors as they did on the fans of yesteryear, they are going to be more wary of their audience this year.

I don't have the schedules at hand (don't think they've been released yet) but the conferences are usually (going by my time in the UK) MS in the early evening, Nintendo early evening and Sony late at night (it was last year where their PS3 conference was supposed to kick off at 11pm and I was sitting there until 1am alone with my computer, AoD and Everybody's Golf PSP to keep me company due to the delay :sd: )

They're going to broadcast the conferences live again? Yay! I remember last year was the first real year that I actually watched Sony and Nintendo's just to see what was going on.

So, to pass the time before the show starts, what stuff do you want to see announced? Not just what you expect to see, but also what you hope will be shown.

THE iDOLM@STER in English.

I would say some more RPG announcements, either for 360, or to tempt me into getting a PS3, but those are the kinds of things I'd expect to be announced at a Japanese rather than a US event. I am looking forward to seeing more of Lost Odyssey though.

Super Robot Taisen:OGs for PS2 would be awesome as well, particularly since I managed to miss the GBA versions.

.

Count me in for that too, and there has certainly been enough hints or mentions about Idolmaster across multiple reports that something just might be up.

I also think Nintendo needs to present some timeframe for their major 1st party titles (SSBB, Mario Galaxies). While yes, there is the whole 'casual' gamer thing going, there is not a day that goes by at my retail location that we don't get someone in WANTING to lay down deposit money for them.

RPG wise it would be nice to see a suprise like the Star Ocean 1-2 PSP complilation come over or heaven forbid the 360 or PSP compliations of the early Sakura Taisens.

And in 'mass media market' importance but of little concern to me is that I think Sony really needs to have real success with whatever they lay out for the Ps3. If Sony has another XMas like the last one (where they finish 4th or even 5th in console sales), they may not have the 5-7 years over which the reports claim the Ps3 will 'move ahead'.

Nintendo
Sounds like they are going to be streamlined and only talk about upcoming games, so expect a lot of Metroid details. Now what I'd want is Mario Kart Wii with 8 player online with leaderboards and leagues.

XBOX 360
Obviously we'll see tons for their Aug-Oct releases, like Blue Dragon, BioShock, Eternal Sonata, GTA IV, etc, etc, but I'd like some good details on Lost Odyssey or Last Remnant. IGN did a preview of the latter and it sounds like it will be there. My long shot wish is for goodies on Alan Wake. Mmmm, Alan Wake.

My TV's big enough that I wouldn't mind having MKW with 8-player on-site (four Wii Classics, four Wavebirds, most likely). But I agree that MKW's my top wish from Nintendo right now, so long as my AOD Wii Friends aren't snakers. It's cheating.

The rest of the wishlist (and most of these are wishes with no known basis in fact): Mario RPG DS (M&L's okay, PM's better, but this is still the best); Metroid Dread (the rumored sequel to Fusion that might have existed but doesn't); a frickin' street date for Fire Emblem: The Goddess of Dawn already. What's taking so long on that, anyway?

Love me some Crimson Skies 2, yeah iDOLM@STER in English too, & maybe Dragon Force updated for XBLA. Yes each one is a step further and further into lala land.

Metroid Dread would be awesome. Another side-scrolling Metroid game would be great. And as New Super Mario Brothers proved, side-scrollers have still got it.

Answering my own question:

Sony

Expecting at least one megaton PS3 announcement. Sony have their conference right after MS and have been hinting at Killzone 2 and Heavenly Sword. A HS demo is as good as announced and I'm expecting Killzone 2 to be there in playable form. Interestingly, some previously reliable sources are saying that the game at least matches the controversial rendered footage from previous E3's...

Much more on Home, release date, new features, trophies etc.

PSP2 to be hinted at (I still think it'll be revealed at TGS). PSP/PS3 connectivity furthered and generally improved.

MS

More on the 360 exclusive GTA IV DLC.

More info on their upcoming big hitters.

Hopefully no mention of Halo 3 (I can dream, can't I?)

Nintendo

Online play details. They need to either commit to or reject the idea one way or the other.

New DS Lite colours coming to the US.

Some more info on Neo Geo on the VC, aswell as the other confirmed and rumoured consoles.

More 3rd party games with substance.

With regards to that and WiiWare coming next year, I would like to see N announce something that will allow more disk space--either a hard drive or just allow games to be booted from SD cards (I prefer the latter).

They've already kiboshed the hard drive rumors, but booting from SD cards is just a good idea. They can call it the SD Channel. It'll make a difference to me sometime around 2010 (the year we make contact), when I actually have enough stuff to fill 64 channels; for johnny, it would make a difference by sometime this month.

Ha, yeah I'm actually worried about filling up all available slots on the Wii. My US one isn't too bad, but I'm onto the 3rd page on my Japanese one...

Nintendo have announced 'time frames' for both mentioned games; they're both 2007, which by now means autumn/winter. Did you mean actual dates? That'd be nice.

Nintendo

Online play details. They need to either commit to or reject the idea one way or the other.

They'll say they have committed to it; the systems are there and they already have one game that uses them properly; third-parties have also announced games with online multiplayer, so it's clearly possible.

On the other hand, they're still releasing a lot of single-player games, such as Metroid Prime 3, and offline-multiplayer games.

What do you actually expect from them? They're not going to 'commit' to it if you mean a commitment, say, that every single game will have online multiplayer (or even that every game which has offline multiplayer will have it online too). And they're certainly not going to 'reject' it if you mean a commitment that no games on Wii will have online multiplayer.

Or are you hoping for announcement of, say, Wii headset support or something? Or an improvement to the system, like ability for games to use the system friend codes directly?

I dunno, I just don't get what you could be hoping for from them, by that description.

(I'd definitely like to hear about more third-party serious games though... just picking holes in this one point.)

Abbreviation or not, E3 is all about MS and (SHOCK, AWE) Sony. I've actually gained more interest in Sony after their initial line of trash games they are warming me up with some of their original third party ips. While I'm more interested in what the western developers have to offer, a few of their Japanese games like MGS4 and Folklore capture my interest. I only really want to play MGS4 for completion, since I only really liked 1 and 3, but I think the gameplay won't be innovated much on and I don't really like the story in general.

Sony really needs to announce a price drop, that would spark my interest even more. But even at a $99 dollar drop it's still a stretch for me to buy given their lineup.

As far as MS, I've heard so much from them over the year I wonder what surprises are in for them this year. Anything short of KotOR or Ninja Gaiden 2 official Unveiling I already expect so much anticipated games this year.

Lobbies, voice chat, gamer tags/names instead of a string of numbers, not needing friend codes in games as well as a DS/Wii number, headsets, seeing when friends are online and what they're playing/doing, not treating everyone who goes online like a child/not expecting everyone over the age of 20 online to be a paedo, online support mandatory in first party stuff, optional but pushed for in third party releases.

This is Nintendo for Christ's sake. They've been about since the beginning. They have the world by the balls in terms of people buying Wii's and DS'. Is it that much to ask for something other than cute avatars?

I can't wait. It's probably one of my favorite days of the year for me. At work I'll be monitoring live blogs and my Google Readers to get updates since most gaming sites are blocked at work. Then at home, I'll be streaming whoever is carrying it, probably Gamespot, live with a bottle of ice tea and bag of potato chips. (Kinda like a football game.) I just love this stuff!

I doubt you'd ever get a unified online service, at least not to that extent, with Nintendo. Nintendo's online strategy has always been last place, and it will continue that way. At least with Sony they learned from their mistakes and are really improving their online with promises of a more unified service across all games (still having a problem with enforcing a standard across all games) but it will be there.

If you check out gametrailers.com on Bonus Round there is a talk with the heads of XBOX Live and PSN about what they like and don't like of other services. You'd be surprised they weren't spewing propaganda about one another's services which was nice. They had great poitns each.

Agreed. Sony really are showing some vast improvements in terms of their online service with Home. Like it or not, it's not only doing something that makes Live's interface look extremely dated, but will be amazing if they can pull off all the interactivity and ability to jump into games etc.

FWIW I do think this is going to be Sony's E3. Nintendo will do something cute and show off their first party stuff (which tbh I'm really looking forward to), MS will have a steady conference with nothing too major announced and a wall of Halo 3 propaganda but I fully expect Sony to steal the show. Can't see a price drop just yet but I do expect the whole Home service (as well as the trophies, online multiplayer games like LittleBigPlanet etc) to be up and running by Christmas, plenty of first party stuff announced/shown (really hoping for that Heavenly Sword demo!) and hopefully some exclusive 3rd party surprises.

Is there REALLY a company called Gamecock? The mind boggles! O.O

SEGA

* Condemned 2 (PS3, Xbox 360)
* The Club (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
* The Golden Compass (PS3, PS2, PC, Wii, PSP, DS)
* Gas Powered Games' RPG (PC)

* Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii, DS)
* NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams (Wii)
* SEGA Rally (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Hmmm, not much Japan-side stuff there. Kind of disappointing. Curious to see what The Golden Compass game is like, though, given how much I loved the book.

Personally I think they have one of, if not the best lineup. Condemned 2, Sega Rally Revo, NiGHTS 2 and The Club all look like they'll be really, really great.

Bit worried that Golden Axe isn't there. Hope it hasn't been canned or anything :(

Yeah, I'm hoping Ubisoft brings their Naruto 360 game to E3 as well. An open-environment, adventure Naruto game is what I want, not just battling, so I'm hoping this one turns out well.

And I just hope I can play as Rock Lee. :D

Sony and Nintendo time completely blow, but the one I'm most interested in (M$) is at night.
Not bad, not bad.

of course $ is a good thing, it just seems a bit oxymoronic to be included in the abbreviation.
:> :> :)
Very smooth Sensuifu, very smooth.

hold on a sec...something's misinterpreted. O.O I actually meant it looked wrong to use M$ instead of 'MS' since you said you were interested in them. :sweatdrop: Unless I'm misreading the reply, which I'm too fond of doing. :D

I agree with your interpretation. People who are not fond of Microsoft use the "M$" abbreviation not the people who like them.
Yeah, I was thinking differently. I just put M$ because I was thinking of the money I'm now making :D

Kotaku had some stuff up that I looked at, it looks nice. This is why I hung my head in shame when I saw the slew of next gen Gundam games. You have the possibility to do something amazing only for it to be total crap. Man do I wish they could somehow bring one of the A.C.E's over or make a third one for the next gen consoles. They could never do it due to licensing though.

Are you talking about Gundam games? Can't say I'm anything of a Gundam expert, but I do know that Gundam Musou (Dynasty Warriors: Gundam) features most of the series, some of which have never been released in the US on TV or DVD.
On that note, it'll be interesting to see how they handle the US release in terms of whether or not they will dub it.

As for Gundam games this gen, Target in Sight was widely agreed as a disaster, but Musou was really great and the upcoming Wii FPS looks kinda decent.

Yeah, thats all I want really. The key to me and Gundam games, or any anime game for that manner ala DBZ, Naruto, or even FMA is that I don't really need the best game ever, but I want a solid game where I can take people from the series and run around doing whatever I want. As for A.C.E, this is what I was talking about (http://www.ace-game.jp/) .

The demo has a Japanese option right off the bat, so I was happy to see that. Though the game itself didn't strike me so well... felt like they took a bunch of 3D models of Gundams and put them all really close to one another and expect you to fill in the blanks... coz they ain't doing anything to stop you.

Speaking of Naruto: Rise of the Ninja, Siliconera (http://www.siliconera.com/2007/07/06/starting-from-the-beginning-of-the-anime-in-naruto-rise-of-a-ninja/) has some juicy bits of info from Ubisoft.

- partial RPG mode that takes players back to the start of the series
- develop Naruto by increasing his chakra and learning new jutsus
- Naruto can accept missions and completing them earns acceptance points plus money
- Missions will incorporate platforming elements, including stealth
- will have a co-op mode where you can challenge a friend with other characters from the series. This is not the online fighting mode, something different.

Just wait until they release "Mobile Ops: The One Year War" for the 360. That game is definitely next-gen Gundam (it's Battlefield with mobile suits).

My point is that the game isn't going to be a huge seller and is going to appeal to a niche market so I wonder if they'll go to the bother of dubbing it, especially if that entails getting the VAs who dubbed the English version of the anime series featured in the game.

Having played the Japanese version, there's a hell of a lot of crossover between series and an awful lot of characters. The game only came out in March in Japan remeber and is due out in the US at the end of August which isn't a lot of time to get all the dubbing done.

Not saying it won't happen (and personally don't care) but it will be interesting to see.

Actually, I wish I could remember the name of the game off-hand, but one of my roomies plays a US-released game that has spoken Japanese with English subtitles. It might be a Dynasty Warriors game, but I'm not sure. It does happen occasionally and I wouldn't mind an all subs game as long as the menus were translated so I had some clue of what I was selecting.

• Draglade is a "beat"-em-up — a musical action game? — for the DS. It's already out in Japan, so hopefully johnny can supply more information.
• Ontamarama is a rhythm game in which you poke musical spirits (WTF) with your DS stylus.
• Touch Detective 2½ hopefully has logic less tortured than the first, so I won't need a FAQ to get out of the frickin' house. On DS again.

And you already know about Trauma Center: New Blood on the Wii. (Boy, Atlus sure does love Nintendo these days.)

Jesus fucking Christ, Atlus win again. See this is why E3 is so great. I was sitting here half asleep until these two announcements came out of the blue and got me all giddy :D

Draglade is Custom Beat Battle: Draglade. Came out in Japan a couple of months back and if you scour the 'what are you playing' thread I mentioned it a couple of times.
Plays like a 2D platformer/action RPG/rhythm action game. One of the DS' best underrated games this year (or ever in fact).

I'm guessing Ontamarama is this (http://www.animeondvd.com/forum/showpost.php?post/470833/) and if so, very surprising but great news as it's another weird and wonderful DS rhythm game.

Well, everybody has to be good at something. Won't stop me from shooting him with three consecutive red shells in Battle Mode.

Advance Wars DS 2 coming this year (http://uk.ign.com/index/e3/2007/news/).

Hideo Kojima denounces new E3 (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3161107) (I agree. Where is the excitement and ton of surprise announcements? It feels far too much like a business conference rather than a fun gaming show. Sure, I've seen new vids of loads of games I'm excited about, but I knew about them anyway. Hopefully day 2 is better).

Some vids that have caught my attention:

Front Mission The First DS (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21620.html). Always put off buying this in the PSX days as I'm not really a strategy RPG player but I'll be all over this one. Perfect for the DS.

Kane & Lynch (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21608.html)
Warhawk (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21638.html). This is gonna be great! I can see this overtaking Lost Planet as my online multiplayer game of choice.
Everyday Shooter (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/16598.html)

I'm hoping this one hits the PC eventually like SH 2-4 did, because I'm a big Silent Hill fan but have no interest whatsoever in those two systems. I wish the voice acting for that teaser wasn't so spectacularly bad, though.

What with Manhunt 2 coming to the Wii eventually, how about Silent Hill 5 on the Wii (from the looks of it, it doesn't look like the graphics would take much of a hit...that screenshot looks like something out of SH 4)? That's the ticket...clubbing unholy, pipe-wielding nurses with my Wii Remote.

Okay, so now that I've had a chance to look at the shit for all the games at E3, I've come to the absolutely shocking conclusion that the Wii looks like it's by far the best system for the end of this year. My breakdown:

PC:
Assassin's Creed
Bioshock
Crysis
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Gears of War
Hellgate: London
Medieval II: Total War - That Expansion Pack
Stranglehold
The Witcher
Unreal Tournament III

PS3:
Heavenly Sword
Lair

Xbox 360:
Blue Dragon
Eternal Sonata
Lost Odyssey
Mass Effect

DS:
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Phoenix Wright 3

PSP:
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles

PS2:
Arcana Heart (Import)
Final Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System (if it's in English... obviously, this is an import)
Persona 3

Wii:
Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn
Ghost Squad (maybe)
Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Nights: Journey of Dreams
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
Rygar: The Battle of Argus
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Trauma Center: New Blood

So yeah, the PS3's lineup is pathetic and the 360's lineup is kinda weak if you have a semi-decent PC. The most promising system is definitely the Wii for me and the only thing that can compete is the PC (which is admittedly fueled mostly by definitive versions of multiplatform games.) The portables are decent, but more of an afterthought, it seems. I'm a little pissed that I'll probably have to get another PSP so I can get TV out. Since I hate playing portable systems. So yeah, that's a lotta money that's gonna be spent. The only game on there that I'm unsure of is Ghost Squad, but everything else seems like an all but guaranteed purchase for me.

Has there been any official word on if Jade Empire 2 is PS3 exclusive?
