This special will feature the return of Mamo Kyosuke (from the 1st TV series) voiced by "Special Guest" and a new character who's supposed to be the descendant of Fujiko, from what I could tell. It will be a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original manga series, first published on August 10, 1967.

By the way, I think it's a mistake not to have aired the special on August 10, since that IS a Friday this year, and that would be the true 40th anniversary of the original manga.

Honestly, I wish they would just end the TV specials and produce more tv series and movies instead. All the new directors out there are Lupin fanboys, I want to see where they would take the franchise on a larger scale than a yearly tv special.

Yes! I have had this thought as well and it would be very interesting to have several Lupin III movies done by established directors like Shinichiro Watanabe, Satoshi Kon and perhaps even someone like Mamoru Oshii.

Considering that Shinichiro Watanabe stated he was influenced by Lupin III, I think he would be interested in directing a Lupin film. There hasn't been a Lupin theatrical feature since 1995 and we're way overdue for another one.

The more Lupin III the better :) i am also glad that they are keeping the original cast of the show. Something you don't get to have a lot these days in remakes/sequels :sigh:

Now if only Funi or others would license more of Lupin III specials/OVAs :sd:

Nabeshin actually did do a Lupin III TV special.
It was unbelievably bad. Awful, awful, stupid script.

That's Shinichi Watanabe, we're talking about Shinichiro Watanabe, the director of Cowboy Bebop :sd:
