Help Me Decide about Gundam ZZ...

With all the talk in the R1 forums about how older anime does not sell well in the current U.S. market, I am plagued with a dillema. I just bought my first all region DVD player and I'm itching to head over to CD-Japan and start buying the Gundam ZZ discs but, is it possible that the ZZ series will be released here in the states? Wasn't there a commitment at one point to bring all of Gundam over to America? I just don't want to spend all this money only to find that it will come out in R1 at some point.

I like it! To appreciate ZZ you must have gone through MSG & ZG though. ZZ is lighter after ZG's grim ending.

ZZG has a more modern hero, Judeau with a realistic survival attitude. He is sceptical & sometimes rightfully disrespectful of authorities, on both sides, an antidote to Amauro & Camille. At first anyway. Unfortunately a certain character together with some events, makes him less rebellious & more a subaltern as the show goes on.

Best UC TV show animation.

Best UC, & any villainess, Hamann Kahn.

Best UC Newtype powers, awesome by the end.

The first female child Gundam & possibly mecha pilot ever.

The bustiest mecha pilot until Divergence Eve.

Good 80s seiyuus for main character parts.

If you don't like "Anime ja nai" (1st op), you'll probably like "Silent Voice" (2nd op).

Personally I like the ZZ mobile suit.

UC purists don't like ZZ usually, but I find it the most rewatchable UC series after MSG movies.

If BE ever releases it, there might be some music changes as some ZG music is used as background.

Thanks for the info. I've known about ZZ Gundam for, gosh almost 15 years now, and I've always wanted it. I think I'm going to go ahead and grab the discs since I now have a player for it. Screw waiting indefinitely for the R1 release. :)

I'd sample it before shelling out $600 for the R2 boxsets. I like the second half, but most (NJR excluding) pray for the sweet release of death during episodes 2-18.

Agreeing with Thanatos. Try to find a few episodes by other means before paying the hefty price tag. I'm one of those UC fans who seriously hated the show as I really hated the characters, inconsistencies and overamped newtype powers. The fights do get better animated as time goes on, but since I hated the characters so much I couldn't get into them after it turned serious. Anyways, my two cents here.
