Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere already, but here it is:

Coming September 25th. I'd say this is a good sign for Paprika coming out here by fall maybe, since it's also through Sony.

Trailers for Tekkon Kinkreet and Tokyo Godfathers were on the Paprika disc, so I think it fairly to safe we'll see the latter as well in BD.

I was waiting for this one to get formally announced. It showed up on the SPHE site awhile ago but the site isn't always that accurate.

Plus with Japan canceling their BD release better to be safe than sorry :) . I wasn't going to get it originally, but after seeing the trailer for it on the Paprika disc I think I might after all. The animation style and designs are weird, but the sheer animation and motion budget makes up for it.

Heh. With the dearth of anime in the US on Blu (none) what choice is there? I'll gladly pick this up when it streets for $25-$30 or so. Hopefully Paprika soon after.

Looking forward to Spirits Within in the week after next too.

Great news, a real dual-language Blu-ray anime release, the way it should be. And the film looks rather interesting, I'll be buying this when it comes out.

Now if someone would just license their Tweeny Witches someday, I'm still watching it but that show is gorgeous and quite enjoyable.

Has anyone picked this up yet? Please post your thoughts if you have. I am curious about the film itself and the quality of the Blu-ray release. Thanks!

I've skimmed it and it looks fantastic so far. I simply haven't had the time in the evening to sit down and watch a two hour flick uninterrupted.

My copy is en route from Amazon, should be here tomorrow or Saturday.

Mine is also coming from Amazon, but shipped slow (to save money) so it will probably show up next week some time.

This is the first AVC encoded release I believe.

The Wings of Honneamise BD is also AVC encoded.

I hear ya. So many films, so little time. :sigh:
It does look like a really cool movie, and I love the manga, so I'm super-tempted to just order it. The mixed reviews it got from its theatrical run + the fact that I don't blind-buy many discs anymore is keeping me on the fence. Look forward to more thoughts/details on the film/Blu-ray. Thanks!

Considering it's the only US Anime release in my price range I thought I'd give it a shot. I heard it's pretty "out there" as far as the movie goes, but that's anime for you.

I'm looking much more to the release of Paprika, which (thankfully) isn't that far off.

If it's "out there" in the same way that Mind Game or Dead Leaves was "out there"... I'm sold!

I saw Paprika at the Philadelphia Film Festival this past year and loved it. If the Blu-ray is up to snuff, consider it bought.

Mine arrived yesterday and I just watched it. It was excellent, definately among the best HD animation I've seen so far, very little compression and artifacting, with no real edge enhancement I could notice. This has a different drawn style that most anime fans are used to, and I like it, I think it's appropriate to the tale being told.

The story was pretty good as well, not as "out there" as I thought it would be (at least not until the ending), and the the uncompressed Japanese PCM audio track was excellent as well. (There's a 5.1DD English track on there for those of you who like dubs, I didn't bother listening to it.)

As far as extras go there's a few like the obligatory director's commentary track, a featurette with the director interviewing the audio composers Plaid (never heard of 'em), and a fairly legthy 45min "300 days" mini-doc following production of the film. Interesting that Michael Arias, the director is was born and raised in the US, but is fluent in Japanese, so in the featurette when he's interviewing Plaid he's speaking American English, and in the "300 days" documentary he's speaking Japanese.

Anyways, being it's my first anime purchase on Blu I have nothing to compare it to, but from what I've seen you can't go wrong here.

The only thing I was disappointed with was Sony's translation. I'm not master at Japanese, but there were several times I read the subs and heard the Japanese and was like... that was an odd way to translate that.

Don't get me wrong, it all makes sense, but there are nuances that Sony's subtitles don't do justice. And there are some things in the background conversations they don't bother to translate. Lame.

Other than that it's a great BD release.

If I remember correctly, the film was originally written in English, and then translated into Japanese. I wonder if the subtitle track is using the original English script?
