In Summary:
With several films now out of the way, Paprika does come across as somewhat repetitive in a sense to some of his earlier works. There are plenty of trademark Kon moments throughout it and the realm in which he works is reminiscent of other pieces, notably Paranoia Agent, but the end result is a weird, predictable yet fascinating piece of work. People who haven't seen any of his prior films will likely find this far more engaging than those who have followed his career but in the end it's another solid entry for him. Hopefully his next work will be something a bit more challenging and unlike his previous efforts so that he can continue to expand his repertoire. Paprika's Blu-ray release is a stand out piece of work that really will shine on about every level.

O.O
Damn, that has the most number of subtitle tracks I have ever seen!

Wow! Now that is the kind of High-Def anime release I can get behind. Plus you can watch it with all your international friends! :D

Nobody can call Sony a racist now.

Exactly. I'm loving the amount of languages and sub tracks there are. This disc makes me want to buy it for that alone.

Though I'm curious who did the English dub for this.

So..would or wouldn't this work on a North American PS3? I'd grab it for 24.99 if so.

It's 24.99 Euros, which is about ~35 dollars, plus about $10 shipping from Amazon.fr. Still cheap compared with BV's releases.

Just wait for it to be released in the US. It's coming out later this year. If not pick up the UK version, which will have cheaper shipping.

I actually just saw this in my local theater and was dazzled by it. I cannot wait until I get to own this.

According to Wikipedia, all of Europe is "Region B" - which means that it WILL NOT work on a North American PS3 (or a Japanese PS3, like mine), which are Region A.

Except this is a region free release. Do you really think any of us have European PS3s? Nope. Works fine on my Japanese unit, and I believe Chris is using an American one.

From the review:
The bottom is rounded out by the usual production credits and a few logos for all involved as well as the three tiered region coding block which indicates that this is an all region release.
Sony announced a few months back that all their forthcoming titles (at least in the short-term) they released would be region free. Don't worry about it.
Your only concern is if it has the correct subs/dubs, for you, etc, etc. This one apparently does, so if you want it that badly, go for it. I'll wait and save myself $10+ and order it from Amazon US when it comes out here, probably around December sometime.

Well, I feel silly for what I said now. I just plain didn't know that Sony could or would make all-region blu-ray releases.
I must say that I think that's a very good thing.
It would be dumb for Sony not to include the English dub on the US release, even if it was done at the request of a UK outlet.

The bulk of their releases are all-region coded to date. Some are A only and there will be some B only, but there are constraints placed on region coding with Blu-ray that encourages companies to not use it. Sony has also been working to do worldwide releases on a lot of titles, particularly big ones, so it behooves them to come up with complete packages to burn once, distribute everywhere. No sense in coding those.

Thanks. But if its coming to North America this year, I can wait. Good to know though :D

Wow, I love that coverart.
I may end up getting this. :) Satoshi Kon is the man. I've heard this is something of a condensed version of Paranoia Agent, but I still wanna see it and watching it in highdef would rule.

You should. It is an excellent release.
The visuals are awesome. Even though I don't have a proper HDTV (yet), I recently had a chance to sample a bit of this on a 1080i HDTV set (via a PS3) at a friend of a friend's place earlier this week, and I must say, it is really amazing.
I've watched this movie about 3 times now (once with the dub, which is good on its own btw.), and I will say, it is certainly eye candy :)
And the PCM 5.1 mix is very crisp and clear :D

Amazon.fr has Paprika In Stock (no longer 'ships within x to x days). Its $41.16 shipped with standard shipping (10-15 business) or $48 shipped with expedited (1-5 business). Still too expensive for me. I was hoping the German release would be cheaper, but i guess with the English cover, it warrants a $10 higher price than the French version.
Dont forget, buy Tekkon Kinkreet on 9/25 so we'll see the rest of Sony's Anime Catalog on BR without having to import.

The French and German releases are the same disc, just different packaging.

I've got my wife's parents looking for it while on vacation in Italy right now, along with some friends in France for the next week three weeks. It will be interesting to see how much they can get it for in a B+M store.
