Been about a year since I've seen lain so I thought I would watch it again. Thought I would see first though if anyone wanted to watch it with me and discuss it the way I've seen several other shows done on here. Probably need about five people to make it work, but open to suggestions about how it should work (first time trying to do this)

I have vague memories of it from watching it at the Uni anime soc in the late 90's but for practical purposes I would be a new viewer.

It's still in my backlog as well. :sd: I plan on watching it eventually, but I still am not quite so interested to pull it out now.

I'm interested! I've seen Lain last year and I've been meaning to re-watch it again.

Oy.

What kind of time frame are you thinking about? Specifically how often do you want to watch an episode and how long do you want to talk about each episode? I'd think we'd have to do something about spoilers although most people have seen it. I would rather not be hiding parts of posts all the time. It could be fun ...

hmm well I'd like to start this weekend maybe and perhaps watch a show a day? Is that how this is usually done? Open to suggestions as I said earlier.

A weekly format would be better. Most of us can't get on the forums everyday.

Yeah I agree. Lots of time for discussion and ...we are likely to pick up more people along the way.

heh one episode a week it is then! I should probably not be getting on the forums as much as I am anyway. I just don't know if I can keep from watching the other episodes....anyway when do you want to start? Next week with episode 1 works for me, and should I start a new thread or just do the discussion in this one?

I guess starting a new thread would be best. This one seems to be just to see if others want to have this discussion. I'd wait overnight at least before you set a start day but it is up to you. It is your thread. :) SEL has a lot of things worth talking about and there are many ways to interpret it as a whole.

I've seen the series more times than I care to remember so maybe we will end up moving along more quickly than we think but discussing one episode at a time seems best to me.

Mmm, as much as I love Lain, it's something I'd really need to rewatch to be able to discuss, and I'm just not in the mood for that kind of show lately. I might be willing to pop in with some general comments though.

I wouldn't mind participating in some Lain discussion, seeing as I'm watching it for the first time on G4TechTV Canada at the moment. Though they've already aired three episodes, so my memory might be a little fuzzy (I tend to forget things pretty easily).

How do you plan on discussing it, though? Simple discussion, or something more in-depth?

A series like Lain warrants an attempt -- even a sometimes futile one -- of an in-depth discussion.

I would definitely like to join in, since I just re-watched Lain last month (along with the other ABe series, in chronological order) and am willing to do so again since my backlog is almost cleared up. Covering an episode per week helps since school will be starting up, as well. Can't promise that I'll definitely get around to it, but I'll try.

Next week is fine by me and yes, you should create a new thread for the discussion. In fact, create it a couple of days early with the plan, that way more members may get involved.

School is holding me back as well and preventing me from busting out the Lain volumes I bought during the Geneon sale. I'm already working through enough series as it is (15 currently airing and 7 on DVD) and in addition to watching Mushishi and BECK tomorrow, I'm also planning on going through NTHT again to celebrate three years of anime fandom, so there's really not enough time for Lain. Perhaps I'll drop in the discussion later.

If people are interested I do have a 14k text file floating around of my interpretation of the series. Sadly it is talking about the series as a whole so wouldn't be relevant to the discussion here till the series is fully viewed. But if people want I'll tidy it up and put it online for use.

It was pretty much the first series I spent the time watching repeatedly, taking notes and trying to work through.

Point taken.

I wouldn't mind participating, as stated earlier. I don't know how thoughtful my will be (meaning going in-depth about something isn't really my forte), but it never hurts to try. :sd:

Well personally I would prefer 2 eps a week (weekend & Wednesday say), but if the concensus is one ep a week .
So what are you defining as the start of each week, Sunday or Monday?
