Hi. I was wondering if any of the following R2s are superior in AV quality to the R1s:

Steamboy
Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence
Labryinth Tales (Neo Tokyo)
Tokyo Godfathers
Millinium Actress

Thanks.

Most of those should be just as good in R1 I think, except for Neo Tokyo.

Is even the fixed, widescreen R1 of Neo Tokyo crippled?

The R1 and R2 for Millennium Actress look very different if screencaps are to be trusted. The former is mastered from a 35mm print, the latter is taken from the HD digital master, and they look considerably different for it. Unfortunately the R2 has some really weird aliasing all over the place, which isn't the fault of interlacing, more likely a poor downconversion to SD. It's hard to say if one is really "better" than the other. They're just different: one more digital, the other more analog.

No clue on the rest, though if you grab the non-international version of Innocence it has kanji credits, and the various LE's had a full bitrate DTS track. The "International" version is basically the R1, but with 'actual' English subtitles as opposed to HoH subs. (Go figure.)

I guess the normal thing is for the R2s to be superior or equal to their R1s counterparts, the opposite is the exception :sd:
