I don't know if this has been mentioned, but on the same weekend as Comiket 72 there was an exhibit of about 50 anime vehicles: itasha (painful cars), itansha (painful motorbikes) and itachari (painful bicycles) in Tokyo.

Some of those look really cool.

Others look, well, painful.

I think the resale value of those vehicles just went downhill.

I think there are some people willing to pay a little more than suggested resale value for a mod here or there.

If you're trying to sell your car, customizations almost always hurts the resale value of one's car. Those Haruhi detailed cars are neat from a Haruhi fan viewpoint but when it comes time for the owner of the car to sell it, he's going to have a tough time as his potential buyers will most likely only be Haruhi fans that happens to like his detailing work (not to mention mileage, car model, year, condition, asking price, etc.).

I think that depends on what you're talking about. If you mean by resale value exclusive of the mods, then yeah, the value will be lower. If you're talking about aftermarket parts that actually enhance the car in some way, SRP should remain, but then you'll need to figure in the 'extras', which should affect the total price.

And that's the point. I said there might be people willing to spend a few dollars more on top of the SRP for something like that. The ones willing to pay might not exactly be the ones that care if they're getting it at SRP, or above SRP. Like the saying goes, all show no go. Even if the seller's price is lower than SRP, the buyer is getting it at a 'deal', but that deal might not always be good if the purchase included something that was undisclosed. The seller could tell the uninformed buyer the 'SRP' plus add whatever value he could pull; he just wants to get as much from the sale, mods or not, SRP/<,>SRP.
