Just as a small note...
I figured one of these hasn't been one of these before, I figured, you might as well start one. I made sure I wasn't breaking any rules or something.
Anyways, here we go...
I don't think I forgot any genres or demographics. If I did, please forgive me and list them in your response - I worked and tried my best to get this list as accurate as possible.
I felt in the mood for a nice, interesting discussion about tastes - how similar and different they are. We all have different, similar and mixed tastes on this site, so I want to know -- how similar, different and mixed is everyones tastes in both genres and demographics! I have a feeling the overall results will be very interesting and very insightful into the somewhat overall AnimeOnDVD populace! :)
On with the show then...
Which genres are your favorite?
I like Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Historical, Horror, Mecha, Mystery, Philosophical, Shonen-ai, Supernatural and Science Fiction.
Which genres don't you like?
I don't like Ecchi, Hentai, Harem, Magical Girl, Martial Arts/Fighting, Romance, Shoujo-ai, Slice of Life, School Life, Sports, Yaoi and Yuri.
Which demograpahic do you prefer?
I prefer Seinen.
Which demographic do you avoid?
I avoid Josei.
If you like all the genres, just click all the choices.
I decided not to make demographics multiple choice, because I wanted to see if you could narrow it down to the nitty-gritty.
Well, I've given you where my tastes stand, how about you folks?
I'm hoping you found this topic interesting. I know I had fun looking up everything.

Hmm, it'll be tough to get a grasp of the numbers with so many poll choices (I'll limit the multiple choice stuff for my top three).
-For the most part, I enjoy the comedy, slice-of-life, and school-life variety of titles.
-While I'm willing to check out any genre outside of the ones that I previously mentioned, I pretty much ignore that stuff that has Martial Arts/Fighting, hentai, and Yaoi.
-I prefer watching seinen shows.
-I tend to avoid kodomo titles aimed at little kids.
-And did I find the topic interesting? Maybe... :sd:

Given that many shows are a mixture of genres. Given that two shows that share the same genre can be quite different. Given the countless number of times a show was thought to fall under X only to find out it actually falls under Y. Given the almost automatic love or hatred people have for shows under certain genres.
I am going to say that there are only three genres for me. Shows I enjoy which is my favorite genre. Shows I can't stand which is my least favorite genre. Finally shows I have no real view on which is the middle ground genre.
Honestly while I can't seriously claim I like every genre. After all the desire for a safety net will likely cause one to gravitate towards certain shows. While bad experiences could possibly cause one to avoid others. I've decided long ago that worrying too much about what genre a show falls under, what demographic it's part of, etc just causes more harm than good.

One particular thing I've learned with anime is that no genre is beyond redemption, there's always at least one show to go against my preferences.
I used to say I disliked shonen tournament fighters - but YYH and Naruto are great. I dislike harem, but I enjoyed AYA and Mahoromatic. And 'action' is a genre that encompasses anything from great stuff like Bebop and Black Lagoon to mindless punching without any redeeming quality.
Liking genres was something I did a couple of years ago, liking series regardless of what label has been attached is more my style now. Having said that, I still tend to avoid anything moe and haremlike.
Hey, I didn't get to tick off moe as something to avoid at all cost... I would have!

I usually loathe fantasy, at least high fantasy with elves and such. It's not a genre I like reading either. There are exceptions of course: Rune Soldier is funny, Escaflowne is sort of a blend with enough mecha to keep it going and Studio Ghibli films always get a free pass.

I like just about any genre so long as the plot is creative, the characters are appealing to me, and the production values are decent. I can watch anything from cutesy shoujo romance to dark and depressing sci-fi mecha or anything from comedy to slice of life and moe. The only genres I don't particularly care for is anything that's too graphically violent, sports titles, or shows where it revolves around nothing but fanservice, but even with these I'll make exceptions sometimes. I have a weak stomach when it comes to violence. I can handle things like lots of bloodshed but I can't handle things like guts gushing out of of people's bodies or heads being decapitated. Having said that though, Akira is still one of my top favorite anime movies despite it being the most violent anime I've seen so far. I don't really care about sports in real life so watching fictional TV shows about sports usually doesn't appeal to me, but I found Prince Of Tennis to be rather addicting despite my hatred of tennis in real life oddly enough. And although I normally don't like fanservice-centric shows, I will occassionally pop in some good 'ol yaoi, so I guess there's exceptions to everything.

I like everything, I dislike nothing?
Well, I'm not really a fan of Yaoi, but even there if it's a good show I'm willing to give it a shot. But it's not really something I'm into.
I'm not really into things like genre's or demographics. I watch what I like and like what I watch. Who it's aimed at is not really relevant to me.

I was actually trying to answer these, but there was way to much clicking involved :sigh:
I like almost any genre, more or less. The only one I wont touch is Yaoi.
I usually tend to hate most shoujo/josei shows. But, I have found 2 I've liked - Full Moon and Aishteruze Baby.
Other than that, its not really a "genre" I like. Its the show itself. Most everything has a show or 2 that will redeem the whole genre. And every genre has stinkers too.

I enjoy pretty much any genre outside of yaoi/shonen-ai.
Lately, I've noticed the shows that I enjoy more are skewing towards those based on seinen material.

Hey, I didn't get to tick off moe as something to avoid at all cost... I would have!
That's probably because moe is not a genre; it's a feeling that one gets from the characters, and is subjective.
But that's another discussion for another thread. :sweatdrop:

I'm willing to give almost anything a try, but I tend to gravitate towards shows from the fantasy, magical girl, school life, or supernatural genres.
I generally tend to avoid ecchi, shonen-ai, yaoi, yuri and martial arts/fighting shows. I will not watch hentai.
I don't really pay that much attention to demographics anymore, they're rarely relevant to my enjoyment of a show.

I don't have a favorite genre. My tastes are wide and varied. So I checked everything except hentai, shonen-ai, yaoi, and sports. :sd:
I avoid yaoi, but that's the only genre I really don't care for. Most sports titles don't appeal to me, but I'm not inherently against them. I only checked shonen-ai and yoai, though. But even then, in theory, there could be something with enough going for it that I would give it a shot. Loveless was kind of tempting but I never went with it largely because it sounded like it was a case of "Oops, we ran out of manga to animate." I might still check out the manga at some point though....
I'm ignoring the demographics part because I don't really give a rat's ass. I don't favor any of them over the other. Kodomo titles don't really appeal to me but I don't really have any favorites among the others.

Genres I'm most drawn to watching:
Comedy
Drama
Ecchi
Magical Girl
Philosophical
Romance
School Life
Slice of Life
Shoujo-ai/Yuri-themed
Science Fiction
As for dislikes...I'm not much into harem titles, but they've been known to go over well with me. It really depends on the way that all or most of the characters depicted in the show are scripted. Horror is a tough sell for me too, mostly because I can be squeamish (I'm not always), and because demons/ghosts/other spookies hardly impress me.
Honestly, I'll watch pretty much anything if it sounds interesting enough and I can afford to pick it up that week. I might avoid stuff what sounds like a massive retread/take on another show, at least until a later date (for rainy-day viewing or something).
I seem to prefer seinen works, but I think that I'm generalizing because most of what I own is probably geared towards young men and up. After that, shoujo and josei, but I've seen very little of the latter, I imagine.

Where is Shoujo is targeted toward girls, Josei is targeted towards women. Where as Shonen is targeted towards boys, Seinen is targeted towards men. At least that's what I gather from other posts. I've heard nothing about Kodomo.

Kodomo is anime for young children, regardless of gender. I'm thinking Hamtaro as an example.

I can't really use those genres, since I don't follow and/or agree with that classification system. Cultural differences, I guess. It seems Anglo-centric, but I guess that's to be expected. I'm sure it's used by most people here; it's just not for me.
I dislike shows that have violent or dark themes. I tend to like shows that have characters I feel moe about (D.C., Haruhi); this can sometimes overpower my dislike of violence (F/SN, Higurashi). I also like shows that portray life as it is (Hachikuro, Manabi Straight) or provide a healing effect (iyashikei like Binchou-tan, Aria, etc). Anime that move me to tears (Kanon, Air, Clannad) tend to be my favorite. I also enjoy shows that make me laugh (Galaxy Angel, Hayate no Gotoku, Keroro Gunso). I rarely watch anime aimed at teenangers (there are exceptions) and tend to mainly stick to shows created for 20-30 year old Japanese males (with the occasional show made for 20-30 year old Japanese females).
Essentially, I judge an anime by how it emotionally effects me and how much I feel moe about the characters in it (a subset of the first criterion). I suppose you could say I practice a form of anime mysticism in pursuit of catharsis and moe.

I tend to look out for anime with certain elements more than the genre itself. I selected "comedy" and "magical girl" since there are plenty of favorites of mine that fit those genres, but even then there are particular types of shows from those genres I don't care for (I don't like Excel Saga and Dokuro-chan, for instance). So, it's more about the particular style of show and whether the characters and situations are interesting to me or not. For the inverse, I tend to not like mecha that much but I really enjoyed Dual. Horror is one genre I don't particularly care for (anime or otherwise), so it's one I also selected there (though I suppose there could be series in that genre I'd like too)
As far as demographics go, it's all over the place for me. Most of my favorites are romantic comedy style shounen (not much on the fighting-style like One Piece, Naruto, etc.), seinen, and shoujo, and a pretty good balance of each I think.

Short answer: I'll watch almost anything with giant robots in it. :)
To be honest, while I've always leaned toward the mecha side of things, I've come to enjoy a fair few shows with elements of different genres: some slice of life, some harem, epic space operas and such, and plenty of comedy - the more bizarre and surreal, the better.
And while I'm not too fond of fanservice (especially if it goes too far into lolicon country) I'll still give a show a chance if it's fun to watch, regardless of how much T&A is thrown at me. I'm also not too crazy about anything dark and depressing.
I'd say I don't care for sports shows either, but I've never watched any, and I don't feel the urge to at the moment.

I'm not really into things like genre's or demographics. I watch what I like and like what I watch. Who it's aimed at is not really relevant to me.
I hate to be a me too'er, but this neatly sums up how I feel about this.
What I find most amusing about this thread so far, is people saying "I hate genre X" then immediately name a number of shows from that exact genre, that they did like, as exceptions.

As has been stated already, no, you're not the only one. I am always rather... disheartened when I see the results for yaoi.

I can understand that. You know, for all of this talk that has existed for years about how there are way more BL/Yaoi fans than there are shoujo-ai/Yuri counterparts, I've seen a lot less in the way of satisfying guy/guy relationships. I have yet to see anything on screen that meets my expectations of emotional development that culminates in actual sex, or at least eroticism. Touya and Yukito from CCS are one thing, but...
The reasons why this is are fairly obvious, but they still make me shake my head.
I so wish that Love Toy in the Closet (the second story on the Sensitive Pornograph DVD), had been longer. It has promise - unlike the title show, which I found kind of dull. Barring the sex scenes.

1. I like quite a few genres. I like action, adventure, comedy, drama, ecchi, harem, horror, mystery, romance, school life and slice-of-life titles. If I was to narrow it down, it would be comedy, drama, romance, school life, and slice-of-life, especially if romance and drama are combined,...
2. ...though really, I have no real dislike for a particular genre, so I'm open to anything.
3. I tend to gravitate more towards series targeted towards boys/men, whether it's an action-packed show like Black Lagoon or an eroge-based romantic drama like Air or Shuffle!.
4. Like #2, I'm open to watching anything, so the demographic doesn't really matter to me. I really enjoyed what I've seen of Nana so far, and my favourite anime series is targeted towards children.
Long story short, I didn't vote for Polls 2 & 4.
5. Yes, a little bit. :)
