View Full Version : Anyone know how much you can get for a GameCube at EB?

I've discovered that FE10 will be out next week, which means I'm now obligated to get a Wii.

So, anyone know about how much EB pays for used GameCubes?

And do they take Game Boy Players?

5 bucks?

You are SOOOOO not helpful.

I guess it doesn't really matter, since I might as well trade the damn thing in anyway if I pick up a Wii.

Thats how much you'll get, really. EB and Gamestop are notorious for their shitty trade in policies. They stopped taking PS1, N64, and other games a while back. You'll at most maybe get 3-6 bucks for Cube games if you turn them in as well. Hell you could trade in a new 360 and only get 30 bucks or so. You shouldn't have to trade in a console + eight games just to get 50 bucks off a 360 or a PS3(they were running that a while back).

If you don't want to see your Cube anymore, go ahead. But at most you'll knock maybe 30-50 bucks off your Wii purchase price.

I know all about EB's game trade in ripoffs, but...if I get a Wii, I don't NEED a GameCube anymore, for the whole 4 GC games I intend on keeping.

(though there are some odities, did you know that Metroid Prime Hunters is worth $10! I mean jesus, I sold the damn thing for a reason, after all)

Yeah, the Wii is backwards compatible. If you still have the GC box why not just make it a bundle on Ebay with an early ending date?

I don't have the GC box anymore.

Doesn't mean I can't still sell it on eBay, but that requires, well, effort.

I don't remember offhand how much a Gamecube trade in is worth since no one has traded one in at work in quite a while, but they sell used for $40, so my guess is about $10.

360 trade in value is now $130.

They must of changed it then. Still you're lucky to get half for it. It's a sad day in gaming when I walk into a EBGames and almost everything in the store is used and you have to hunt for new games. Or when they "gut" new games so you have to go get the disc in a sleeve behind the counter. I just go to Best Buy or one of the other chains and get a sealed copy.

Used games is where Gamestop makes it's money. If by "hunt for new games" you mean go to the new games section then yes you have to hunt for them. I'll agree with you on the guts though. I don't care for the gutting system for display copies, but since you can't have sealed games with disks inside them on the shelf (because they will get stolen) and Gamestops don't have the space larger stores do, that's just the way it is.

Oh yeah, I know people will swipe them as we had people do that when I had a summer job at a local store here(local custom computer place that had games in the front). I'm used to it with things like rentals and the odd PC game, but I guess I just like that "new sealed game" feeling. I know that Fence wants to trade in his GC since the Wii can do what a Cube does in more but the ironic thing is that he could find his games he trades in on the shelves for twenty dollars more than he received.

That is the main reason why I avoid EB/Gamestop these days. They push too much trade practices on their customers and they are slowly gypping their trade in prices more and more. I tend to only buy new and when it comes to selling back stuff, I just no longer do it. If I were to do it, I would look for places online to do it.

Smart move. I seriously think GS/EB might have stopped taking GCN's for trade-in. If you know any little kids who might want it I'd just hand it off, but technically there's purpose in keeping the controller for your Wii so you do lose a little that way. I hate to put it this way but from most standpoints the controllers the only part of the package that has any real value. Luckily with Ebay you can hit up the crowd that wants the whole thing, though it's likely still a small amount you're getting.

At least it goes to someone who might use it that way though

Well, I have a Wavebird and a regular controller, so I'll sell the regular controller and keep the wavebird.

I also have a Gameboy Player

I don't know from EB or Gamestop, but you should be able to sell it for at least $20. And that's to some random person you know.

Right now it's going for a minimum of $37.66 on Amazon Marketplace. Unlike eBay, Amazon Marketplace takes practically no effort to list things. You really only need to put a sentence or two saying in what condition it's in and if it comes with everything or not. They charge a little bit more than eBay as far as listing fees, but I've found it's far more easier to deal with them, and because the selling goes through Amazon itself where they have to pay immediately, it's a lot more reliable than needing to worry about the occasional deadbeat buyers on eBay.

According to CAGwiki's (http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/EB_trade_in_values#GameCube) EB trade-in values, as of 10/29/07, the GC gets $15.

With the Game boy player, you should be able to fetch at least 2 to 3 times what EB will pay you on ebay (>$40), since it's rare. Unless that doesn't matter to you, I don't suggest trading it to EB/GS at all.

That's nice to know, since I have a GB Player on my Cube.

In fact, that's the primary reason I'm keeping the Cube, unless a new model is designed for the Wii.

I was planning to sell some stuff at the local Gamestop myself, but found out that they do not accept just anything as trade-in now. Last time I sold used stuff they'd take just about anything, but now it's nothing older than PS2 (which I just kinda assumed included GBA games even though I forgot to ask). I literally had a bag full of crap I didn't use or play anymore. It's not so much the money but rather I hate to see it just sit and take up space. I'd rather see it used.

Maybe I'll inquire about what GoodWill usually does with old game stuff.

Look around and find out if there's a dedicated Video Game Trading place in your area. I recently found one near me, and I plan to take up some old PS1 games I'd like to get rid of.

There is one about an hour away you just reminded me of. Last time I stepped in there it was full of 12 year olds playing Magic the Gathering. With the kind of clerks that think they're really cool because they're the clerk at the used video game store. I suppose the peanuts they'd offer are better than nothing.

Why not offer it as one big lot on E-Bay?

Charge $15 for shipping (sounds like it would be a heavy package), and see what the market will bear.

It's never a good idea to sell whole collections in a lump on eBay, you don't get nearly as much for it as you would if you sold each item separately. Also, just like Fencedude pointed out that smacks of hard work and I just want to dump the stuff on somebody's counter and leave.
