Ero anime news has been rather lacking on this forum of late, so I thought I'd start a general thread for it.

What's up, what have you watched recently that you liked (or disliked), and to what are you looking forward? What would you like to see licensed for R1—especially overlooked gems (or fun trash) of yesteryear? What are the new studios out there, and what old ones have slipped away?

From Heisei Democracy (http://heiseidemocracy.com/):

Getchu.com's November release schedule (http://getchu.com/php/calendar.phtml?sort=release_date&kord=&genre=anime_dvd&age=18&search_month=2007/11).

Anime Jungle no longer seems to list (http://jungle-scs.co.jp/cgi-bin/preorder.php) "bishoujo anime" pre-orders, and CD Japan's "This Month New Releases" (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/sitemap.html) link is broken—is there any company to whose schedule I should pay attention?

Interesting. Any sign that Anik is still alive means there is still hope of seeing the sequel to SoraMizu ep.1 one day.

Here I was thinking the big bold "Post: Hentai anime news" was Japan getting rid of their censorship. Oh well, another one of those disappointing "Just Licensed: Ro..." titles.

You can discuss the Japanese censorship issue if you want, although it might get a better discussion in the JL&C forum. The Language and Culture forum normally gets a large number of the law change discussions more so than the R2~R3 forum.

I believe when Himagin shut its site down and said they were moving to Mon Amour (or whatever that process was) they had on their website that SoraMizu 2 would be out in February. This was based off a translation from another forum, but I believe it because most of the translation was accurate about the company and its financial status.

Yes, Himagin's titles are now controlled by Amour. There's a link at the bottom of Marigold's Himagin page where the catalog titles are listed that links to Amours site.

(I see which forum you mean) - Yes, but I will believe it once the DVD has been released :>

The latter part is still scheduled for february according to MP, yet I can't help but feel a little pessimistic after a little more than one year waiting for this.

Oooo—thanks! Here's the Getchu.com link (http://www.getchu.com/php/list_per_reference.phtml?ref_id=220493) for all Boin-related products—they have a few more screenshots than the Milky/MS Pictures site.

BTW, Milky was (I believe) always a division (http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=milky-anime&tld=com) of Museum Pictures/G.P. Museum (http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=gp-museum&tld=com) (home site (http://www.gp-museum.com/); company info page (http://www.gp-museum.com/company.htm))—"MS Pictures" seems to me merely a reorganization to put all of G.P. Museum's hentai under one "roof". Also, compare this Anime 18 page (http://anime18.com/store/product.cfm?Cat=A18D_2352)'s copyright notice with this ANN Encyclopedia entry (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=3416) and its links.

I seem to have shamefully missed volume 1. Time for idiot questions!

First, am I pretty much SOL on finding a copy of volume 1 at this point?

Second, is this second volume a release that will eventually make its way to sites I can actually order from?

First, am I pretty much SOL on finding a copy of volume 1 at this point?

Welcome to the club! ^_~ I noticed about this project after the release of the first Volume and despite not too long afterwards the firstpress was sold out at *every* jp store that sells DVDs of this Anime genre. You *can* find the firstpress these days (at jp "second hand" shops) but at skyrocket prices (18,900 Yen was the cheapest I found it - those that get it in stock for 9,000 Yen sold out on it way before I even managed to send my deputy service a mail so that he could sneak it for me ^_~).
The regular edition for Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro Vol. 1 was available for a longer run but *now* is sold out as well. Gladly though due to the release of the concluding Volume Nihikime no Dozeu announced a re-release of the first DVD (and most shops listing it that are again going to add their shop-exclusive goodies *Telecards* to the re-release once again). Of course the re-sale edition of Volume 1 is not going to be less priced then the upcoming 2nd Volume and IIRC will be released on the very same day as the concluding one (I've typed up the details on my silly little blog a while ago (http://dragonautics.co.at/community/usrpages/lhnl/blog/?p=116) in case you're interested - not that it's much informative anyways ^_~).

I could be wrong, but at least the first DVD was available through CDJapan (at least they had it listed) so I guess that would be the best chance to go for it without the help of a deputy service ^_~ Amazon.jp has it up but that's not much help to us Gaijin's anyways. AFAIK they never accepted shipping Adult Animation, Software overseas and now also stopped shipping Adult books/magazines (or at least those labeled as such...I want my TECH-GIAN >_<)
Personally with Kuroda Telecard goodness involved I will bite and go for both via the help of such a service *at last*.

It looks like Mangaoh has listings up, so at least I have that option if CDJapan or Himeya or whoever else for some reason doesn't come through on either volume. Though I'll also need to start pestering a buddy of mine who's teaching in Japan at the moment to go do some legwork for me, if there are a variety of exclusive items to be had.

I don't mean to asked a stupid question, but just what companies are left and whats their websites? I know I should look for myself but i guess that some of you already know?
The currently active studios (of which I have knowledge) are:

Digital Works' Vanilla Series label (http://www.vanilla-jp.com)
Media Bank (http://www.mediabank.co.jp) (formerly D3; WhiteBear and Dream labels)
MS Pictures (http://www.ms-pictures.com/) (Milky, Jam, Bootleg, AniMan, Mints, and Virgin Cream labels—some of which are for games)
Nihikime no Dozeu (http://www.komagata.biz/)
Pink Pineapple (http://www.pinkpineapple.co.jp/)
Pixy (http://www.pixy-soft.com/)
schoolzone (http://schoolzone.kir.jp/)
SevenEight (http://www.seveneight.co.jp/) (parent company of the inactive Discovery (http://seddnet.com/) label)
Soft on Demand (http://anime.sod.co.jp/) (Sugar Boy label)
Suzuki Mirano (http://www.suzukimirano.com/)
Plus a company called "Strawberry Jam" that does not seem to have a Web site, and may only be producing DVD player games. (That SevenEight is actually releasing new hentai is a (pleasant) surprise.)

Sources: My memory and the Getchu.com eroanime release schedules for March (http://getchu.com/php/calendar.phtml?sort=release_date&kord=&genre=anime_dvd&age=18&search_month=2008/03), April (http://getchu.com/php/calendar.phtml?sort=release_date&kord=&genre=anime_dvd&age=18&search_month=2008/04), May (http://getchu.com/php/calendar.phtml?sort=release_date&kord=&genre=anime_dvd&age=18&search_month=2008/05), and June (http://getchu.com/php/calendar.phtml?sort=release_date&kord=&genre=anime_dvd&age=18&search_month=2008/06) of this year. (The blue eyes release in June is actually a reissue of an old series.)

As an aside, see the the Heisei Democracy article "The story behind Himajin's disappearance" (http://heiseidemocracy.com/2008/05/14/the-story-behind-himajins-disappearance/).

But you can download them LEGALLY from DLsite.com, although they are raw and censored. I also think they are only available to the Japanese side of dlsite, and I suppose it's possible they IP lock the downloads, although the files themselves are completely non-DRMed.

Foreigners actually can purchase material from the Japanese portion of DLsite.com, but thats not necessary with Pixy titles, since their shows are made available (usually the same day) on the English portal. The files are, of course, only in Japanese and contain mosaic censorship.

Do you know what the quality/size of the files is like ? Given the prices they'd need to be at least DVD res or above I'd think.I really prefer owning the actual dvd with a proper case, but still its an option I guess. No drm is always good.

I stay far away from Itunes(128AAC) and even Amazon(256 MP3) for music as the bit rate is far too low.I am somewhat of an audiophile.

You can find that information listed on each product's page.

That said, Pixy uses the WMV format with files clocking in around 500-700 MB.

They are EXCELLENT quality. 350 MB wmv 9 in avi at 704x396, audio 192 Kb/s mp3.
In fact, the quality might be slight better than the DVD, in my opinion.

And FYI, DLsite is great and one of PIXY's official download outlet, it's even linked from the show's official webpage.

(by the way, does anybody know what bonus Cdjapan will carry ? Telecard, illustrations, etc etc if any ^^ )

If they're going to release it the same way as the first Volume (which I'd say is ~very~ likely) back during it's initial release then CDJapan won't add any bonus such as Telecards. On a general note not every jp shop does plan to add a bonus to this release (i.e. Sofmap hasn't announced wether they're planning to join the re-release Vol.1 Telecard re-inclusion as other shops do).

For what it's worth, I've typed-up and added a little overview of shop exclusive bonus (Telecards) for the Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro DVD release on my silly little blog here (to be found at the bottom of the entry) (http://dragonautics.co.at/community/usrpages/lhnl/blog/?p=116).

I hope for (quite unreasonably) alternative/reversible cover art. THAT would be a killer LE :D
A Kuroda doujin ? You mean one of those rumored, mythical books, unobtainable for the common folk ? Damn, I will have to organize a black mass and sell my soul to the devil (again), but I will have to get it ! ^^

(but I was under the impression that it was Megumi Ishihara the artiste behind those two new covers ? Something in the glitter of the hair, I think)

Unfortunately I had only bought the common edition at that time. Not fast enough for the LE XD
One rarely see an ero-anime sell this quickly. Nor enter the weekly top 20 for DVD sales on CDjapan (apart for Soramizu 1, well Angel Blade Punish maybe if memory serves, but those two are the exception to the rule).

I'm not sure of my understanding of what is written on the Getchu's page, but was wondering if, indeed, it was a telecard illustrated by Megumi Ishihara on the top corner, and if it's a Getchu exclusivity or not - just to know if I may start to salivate ^^

(silly little blog, silly little blog, do you have an idea of the sheer amount of time some of us have spent on your website to digest the incredible amount of information you infused in it ?!? ^^ )

I hope for (quite unreasonably) alternative/reversible cover art. THAT would be a killer LE :D

~Maybe~ the ltd. edition comes along with a slipcase (the Natsume cover art) and the DVD case itself features the regular edition cover art? We'll know for sure in less then a month ^_^

A Kuroda doujin ? You mean one of those rumored, mythical books, unobtainable for the common folk ? Damn, I will have to organize a black mass and sell my soul to the devil (again), but I will have to get it ! ^^

When it comes to Shimahokke Doujins it's less a matter of availability then price. I know I had to pay a little fortune in order to get ahold of Kuroda's SoraMizu (http://dragonautics.co.at/pub/media/140707_13.JPG) Shimahokke (http://dragonautics.co.at/pub/media/180507_13.jpg) trilogy (http://dragonautics.co.at/pub/media/070407_08.jpg) but they're certainly worth it (especially getting more SoraMizu color, rough as well as monochrome art goodness presented through these ^_~)

(but I was under the impression that it was Megumi Ishihara the artiste behind those two new covers ? Something in the glitter of the hair, I think)

I'd say you're right with that assumption in regards of the Vol. 2 cover(s) (the Vol. 1 re-release is clearly Kuroda-sensei done given those unmistakable eyes and round yet "sharp" propotions). Moreover you read that correctly Getchu clearly states their Vol. 2 ltd. edition bonus Telecard is drawn by Ishihara (btw. as of today Getchu replaced the rough Telecard sample art with a colored image). Generally speaking of SoraMizu Vol. 2 judging by the promo art and Demo movie / trailer it's quite visable that Kuroda won't resume job as character designer *and* Chief Animation Director...especially the scenes including Natsume showcase Ishihara's involvement quite clear I'd say.
But I'm definitely not complaining here - as long as Kuroda-sensei actually does the chara designs I'll be a very pleased fanboy. Moreover I do like Ishihara's designs as well (definitely prefer them over the ones by TONY for the original Soft) and here's hoping that in case there won't be another SoraMizu Shimahokke themed Doujin released in the aftermath that Ishihara will present us such through his Circle.

Thanks for the kind words! Really nice to see there are people out there following it and that I hopefully don't bore the heck out of them with the entries posted ^_^"

Shojo Sect, or at least the "Innocent Lovers" box version, is finally listed at CD Japan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=DMLK-7704). Some retailers won't ship adult materials out of Japan; is CD Japan one of them?

I hope they don't have a problem with that, considering they're where I put in my order for Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro. There's nothing on their site to indicate that they don't as far as an FAQ item or anything of that sort. And I would think they'd have sent a note by now if that were the case, since the mailing address attached to that order of mine is obviously not in Japan.

According to Heisei Democracy (http://heiseidemocracy.com/2008/06/08/mainichi-junk-june-6th-7th-2008/):

New eroanime brand Cotton Doll announces the first episode of Ikusa Otome Valkyrie 2 for release on September 26th. Animation is from studio T-Rex, who Amazon credits with Sentakuya Shin-chan ep. 2, and design work is from Tatsumi (recently credited on Pink Pineapples Aneki), but the brands true origins are unknown. Well be on the alert for more information.
