1. He needs the money....maybe he's using it to finance a 360.

2. He got it used, has no receipt, it's broken, and Sony won't take it for repair, which IIRC, is a flat $150 fee for out of warranty service.

If that isn't the case, see if he can provide you with the original purchase receipt, or a copy of it.

3. He stole it. :)

There are a large number of scenarios that could result in someone selling a product at such a disocunt. It could have been stolen, they could have recieved it as a gift and they can't get money for it in any other manner, it could be broken and they are out to screw you financially, etc...

Ebay is buyer beware. Just make sure the guy has a really good rating before investing in something like that.

And it could even be just the packaging. That used to be a favorite scam among console auction hawkers.

Well there is also the Vii (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/wii-clone-caught-on-vii-deo/) which I guess is a step up in the knock off chain.

Ape2020: Sorry we shouldn't be linking to auction listings especially if they aren't eBay and not in the eBay forum.

Honestly, I doubt if I'd trust that auction as far as I can throw it (which is precious little, considering it's virtual content!). No picture. No detailed description of the system. New user (registered 11/7/07 if I recall correctly). No feedback. All of these, to me, scream "buyer beware". If the auction is legit, then ask the seller a question about it; ask them to describe the condition of the system IN DETAIL. Also ask about original packaging, if it's ever been connected to the internet (and, if so, how it did), if it still has the Sony-brand Sixaxix controller and USB charge cable, whether a disc has ever gotten stuck or jammed in it… pretty much anything you can think of that only a person who was physically looking at a system would know. You might also want to get them to verify by posting in the auction with an edit that the system works.

Of course, I could be wrong. It could just be someone who doesn't like the system. They may also be getting rid of it in order to upgrade to the new 80gb version (since the 60 is discontinued now). I wish you luck in your endeavor ^_^

100% scam. It's a fake company and them listing 1000 products is usually a sign. In other words, don't do it :noodle: :noodle:

I would just ignore it but if you do take a chance on it request a pic with today's date on it. They can email it to you. Also what it the auction site's policy on fraud or whatever payment they accept policy on fraud. But really it seems like too much trouble to me.

I agree.

After you decide to purchase it, I bet they'll want you to wire the money to them via Western Union or the like.

Dammit, just spend the extra $250+tax and get a real one.

My local BB had nine of the things piled up, as it looks like the 80gb it outselling it quite handily (based on the number of 80gb units they had displayed).

If your going through with it, nobody here is going to feel even relatively bad for you because we warned you. This is one of the most blatant scams I've ever seen.
Theres no point on giving away $300 when it can go towards getting a REAL PS3.

60 gig lists for $500... no way is it selling legit for half off retail right now. Even the 40 gig is 400.

it could be stolen or a broken one... or it could be legit, but i doubt that.

if your gonna try dont pay with a check... use a credit card only. One with good fraud protection where you can dispute it and get the charge reversed. be sure to check out the rating of the seller if your using ebay or something similar.

Always buyer beware... shopping online is about getting a deal.

Looks like a scam to me . . .

I just looked around at places that I've dealt with often and found this . . . .
