El Hazard confusion

Ok I am trying to finally finish up my purchases at Genon but El hazard has me confused. I want to get all but the wanderers which I may pick up if there is a Genon sale. The box set is what exactly? The wanders is the one that is the "extra" story right?

OVA Continuity:

The Magnificent World (OVA1 and OVA2)(11 eps)
The Alternative World (TV2)(13 eps)

TV Continuity:

The Wanderers (TV1)(26 eps)

Both OVA1 and TV1 are fairly conclusive.

All of the El Hazard series have box sets, so I'm not sure which one you're referring to. If you mean the Magnificent World Box Set, that contains both OVA 1 & 2 for a total of 11 episodes.

The Wanderers isn't an "extra" story in any sense of the word. It's a retelling, with a few changes, of the original OVA 1 story. The stories that are "extras" are OVA 2 and the Alternative World.

So OVA 2 does this lead to any other stories review seems to make it seem like it does...are you left hanging at the end of OVA 2? If so the alternative world concludes this story...?

The Alternative World moves the story on but still doesn't reach the resolution that... well, that'd be a spoiler.

Also, be aware that if you do get The Wanderers boxed set, there was a batch where disc three wouldn't play past episode... 17, I think. I had to buy a new single disc, all of which work fine. Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing whether the set has the bad disc until you get it. Some do, some don't.

Oh, it's not like that. Things are implied at the end of OAV1 that would have been cool to actually see play out, but OAV2 and Alternative World don't take the story that far forward. But there's no cliffhanger or anything, and the implications at the end of OAV1 are still valid. And the Wanderers is off in its own corner doing its own thing.

The story ends at the end of OVA 1.

OVA 2 and Alternative World take place...uhh...before the end of OVA 1.

Wanderers is its own completely separate continuity.

Like the various Tenchi series.

Gah Tenchi always confused me why I stayed away from it. Ok I can pick up the OVA's then which were supposed to be the best without missing to much then thanks!

God I love this forum I would be lost without it.
