I started playing MGS3 Subsistence on my 60gigger today, and I'm having a big problem. My square button (for guns) doesn't have very good analog sensing. I can only let off of the button lightly about 1/10 of the time. So I end up shooting when I don't want to. My O button is a little bit better, but not by much. When I press the triangle button during cutscenes to zoom in, it always snaps and zooms about halfway in initially, and then I have to very, very lightly let off to zoom back out.

I like the PS3 buttons because they're very snappy. They're great for action games and fighting games. I didn't like the PS2 buttons because they were mushy and set a little bit too low. But now I can't play MGS because I don't get proper analog detection. Am I the only one?

I haven't noticed, to be honest. I'll try it sometime this week if I remember and let you know.

I've had issues with FFXII trying to do mist Combos. Make sure you have all the PS3 firmware updates maybe?

Yes, I have the latest firmware. I'm almost completely certain that it's a problem with the controller hardware.

It took some time to get a firmware upgrade for MGS3 support from what I remember. I'm not playing the game you are having issues with currently, but perhaps look into the newest Dual Shock 3 controller? Mine is on the way so I haven't been able to see if the button response is better.

When I get it over the weekend I will compare the two and see what happens.

Hey! I didn't forget about this, I just haven't had a chance to try. I just got a new (better) job! :)

I'll try to bum MGS3 from my roomie and give it a go soon. Sorry! :(

Are you talking about the 80gig? Because the 60gig has no problems running the game.

The import ones cost way too much, and the US release is still a ways off. I'm going to get one for MGS4, though. Kojima loves his rumble, and it's looking like the DS3 is going to come out in the US before MGS4 does.

All right, thanks to both you and Mr. Spiffy-Pants. If it's a problem with my particular controller, I'll feel better.

I've been using my PS2 for MGS3, and I'm almost finished with the game anyway :sweatdrop:

The shape buttons are analog? That's news to me.

Well, they're technically pressure sensitive and detect 256 digital levels of pressure, but for all intents and purposes, they're analog. The shoulder buttons and d-pad are analog/digital pressure sensing, too.

Tattoo it under your eyelids, too!

Well, I'm not in too much of a hurry anyway. I just finished MGS3 yesterday, and I've still got to play MGS Twin Snakes before I go to MGS2 and have the same problem. I don't know if I'm going to play MG2, though. I'm definitely not going to replay MG1. I did that shortly after I got Subsistence.

My roomie has Snake-Eater, not Subsistence. I tried it out anyway and it does seem a little sensitive. I don't have to press fully on the buttons in order to fire, etc. However, I don't play this game normally so I can't really say whether or not I'm imagining it.

I tried it with my PS2 controllers (I have a PS2 -> USB adapter) and it seems a little less sensitive. I tried with the original PS2 controller and my Logitech wireless PS2 controller as well. Both had the same result.

Woo-hoo! Thanks!

Either version of MGS2 probably would've been fine, too.

Were you ever able to not shoot on a consistent basis after pulling the gun up while using the Sixaxis? And I'm talking about pistols and the sniper rifle. The inverse holds true when you're using rifles. Being able to pull the pistol up, try to aim, decide now isn't the time to shoot, and put the gun away quietly (without shooting) is an important feature in being stealthy.

I could do it, but I had to be veeeery careful. I just barely tapped the Sixaxis and it would draw the pistol.

So your controller isn't as sensitive as mine, but it's still damn sensitive.
