Just wondering, which anime character do you consider to be the most moe character and why?

Moe is all about personal opinion, and everyone's definition of moe differs.

Totally not possible to answer, and would change weekly. I'd even have a tough time ranking a top 25 >_<

But Vivio from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS is definitely up there in terms of pure, unadulterated moe.

Well, sure, but that's what he's asking for: your opinion.

I could probably give you a different truthful answer every day.
But the first one that came to mind was Misao in Magical Project S

Chiyo Mihama, Azumanga Daioh - Everytime Chiyo got airtime on that screen, I smiled. When Chiyo got hurt, her expressions were so cute. She was also extremely cute in that penguin costume. I couldn't help but go "AWW, she's so cute" every time she was on the screen. Aww~

I don't watch a lot of Moe anime but I have to agree she was what made Azumanga Daioh for me and got me interested in watching it beyond just to please my girlfriend.

Oh god

I know the exact cultural definition of moe but a large percentage of people seemgling make their own.

To avoid argument, the above is all I'll say but here is my most and greatest moe character in Anime history:

Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura

Let's get the obvious out of the way first... Matsuri Sakuragi from Strawberry Marshmallow. :neko: She's cute, shy, and fragile. :beat:

Also up there for me, and I suspect this breaks the stereotypical 'moe' assumptions, is Mayuko Chigasaki from NieA_7, who also happens to be my favorite overall anime character. She's down on her luck and desperately needs something good to happen for once in her life. If there ever was an anime character that I wanted to help out, it's Mayuko.

I guess those are my main two. I could go on and on with other characters that I respond to in similar kinds of ways, but Matsuri and Mayuko are probably the ones that get to me the most.

My strawberry girl moe choice is the lovely Ana ::nods::

When she tries to hide her Japanese proficiency, oh god, I feel like I'm going to diiiiiiiiie.

As has been said there are many candidates and it's an opinion that can change from episode to episode.

Right now though, I'd say Chihiro from ef - a tale of memories. She's got vulnerability, innocence, a personality shaped by tragedy, and that eyepatch.

Pico from the "My Pico"/"Pico and Chico" titles.
So very cute. Even Mokkun agrees. :beat:

Hmmmm... then I'd have to second Vivio. She's cute as a button, extremely shy, clumsy, earnest, and gets tortured. All the ultimate qualities

Misuzu from AIR. Somehow, character qualities that normally turn me off (sickliness, childishness, etc) are really endearing & heartrending when it comes to her.

Gonna go with the Two-Way Tie of Chiyo Mihama and Sakura Kinomoto. None have the power to stand against them.

Second place: Fate Tesstorosa and Nanoha Takamichi.

Honorable Mention: Hoi Hoi-San

Granted, she's a little bit of a crossover between moe and :bignosebleed:, but I'm saying Tessa Testarossa. When she's moe, with the big eyes and the little voice and the fluff of hair at the end of the braid that she likes to play with, I get as close to wanting to hug an animé character as ever I do.

And then she wanders around the ship half-naked and tipsy. Best of both worlds, right?

She wasn't drunk, she was sleepwalking.

My first anime "awww" was Noriko in Gunbuster. But where does "kawai" cross into the "moe" boundary?

Menchi in Excel Saga.

That's UNpossible!!! Our Beloved Tessa would never do such a dirty, dirty thing that might make Sagara-San disappointed in her!

True. I think angsty boys in skintight bodysuits are pretty adorable, so Kei Kurono from Gantz is whatever the equivalent of moe is for guys.

Only the shy, clumsy, earnest cute ones. =P

(Envisions Prison Camp MOE, the most atrocious, exploitive anime series ever. :> )

Oh, and to answer the original question, I score Fate Testarossa, Rue (Tutu), and Misao (Magical Project S) pretty high for landing in my personal moe danger zone of doing bad things while having identity issues.

I am going to have to change mine and do to some other things that happen in the game this may anger some people (feel free to say so I am certainly not well versed in subtleties in Japanese culture) but after playing through Kana Little Sister I am going to have to say Kana is the most moe character I have ever seen. Man what a moving game that was, so worth staying up until four AM and being two hours late to work the next day...

Second Fate and Misao - and I'll add Hisami from R.O.D TV and Nodoka Miyazaki from Negima - two examples of everything they do in any scene making me gush in bawls of sweetness.

is Kana Little Sister similar to Koi Kaze? where the main character has a thing for his younger sister? but not quite Koi Kaze cause it's a hentai game, so ANYTHING can happen!

Having not seen Koi Kaze yet I can't say completly but as I said in the game forum (where are we supposed to discuss hentai games here anyway?) you should play this game. It is the most heart tugging story I have seen in a loooong time. The sex is very natural and moving and comes out of pure love, brought about because your younger sister (who turns out not to be really but that is just for the censors I suppose) is dieing of chronic renal insufficiency. It really can't be played through multiple times without a break inbetween without becoming overly depressed I think. Yes you end up having sex with her but you could take the sex out and still have an incredibly moving story worth paying the price of admission for, the story is the focus not the sex.

Close, but do you find Kurono adorable in a sexual manner or a non-sexual manner. One of the key characteristics of moe is that the attraction is closer to the platonic scale and more of a nurturing love.

"Parental" is another word I've seen used to describe the feelings of moe... That would tie in with the nurturing and supportive aspect.

Of course, you can feel for a character on multiple levels. One type of emotion need not exclude the other. You can be moe for a character on the one hand, and not so platonically attracted on the other, and they don't necessarily conflict. They're just various sides of your feelings for them.

As far as moe in CCS goes, I'd have to give Tomoyo herself the nod. Selflessly supporting the object of her unrequited love through thick and thin no matter what... oh Tomoyo <3

Aria from Sister Princess. A little girl who wears frilly dresses and who rarely speaks and when she does speaks softly and demurely. Beat that.

Yeah. Tomoyo out-moes Sakura by a factor of 8.6.

It's kind of difficult for me to decide just one character who I think is the most moe but at the moment, I'll probably say Hanyuu from Higurashi Kai. If only she were real, I'd take her home and polish her horns all day. ;_; Other candidates for me would be Yuno (Hidamari Sketch), Ana Coppola (Strawberry Marshmallow), Sakura Kinomoto (CCS) and of course the 2007 Saimoe Champion. ;)

Meiko in Marmalade Boy is a good example of pre-moe moe. The first I wanted to jump into my TV set to comfort.
