I don't know if this is jumping the gun a bit in posting this information but I was recently made aware of this website (http://alice.biglobe.ne.jp/) which seems to indicate at least something related to Rozen Maiden will be announced in just a few short days (12/17/2007). The little bit of speculation that I've heard is that it could be just that, or it could simply be a game. I've still only watched the first 2 episodes of the 1st season of Rozen Maiden so I wouldn't call myself a fan just yet but I'm sure the actual fans will be excited if the predominant speculation of it being the 3rd season turns out to be true.

I have no idea what this will result in, but if/when they announce a 3rd season I'll be happy it exists and then be sad about its chances for R1 land... So time to protect cheering and crying just in case.

I wish I could read whats on that site.

I would love a third season, but the little flash of something you get in that message looks suspicously like a dating sim.

From looking at the brief flashes of the screenshots, it looks like a dating sim to me. Even the title of the project - "Rozen Maiden: Alice Project" - suggests that it's going to be a video game of some sort. If this game does well, however, that might launch discussion for a possible third RM series.

Dating sim? And just who would you be dat...oh. Great, we don't need anymore guys with doll fetishes--isn't the guy from Shakugan no Shana enough?

Didn't the manga get caught up on some problem or another and wind up getting ended prematurely? I've never actually heard if there's enough to support a third season.

NOT that they'd be required to. I am the last person in the world to think that a show needs to slavishly, mindlessly follow its source material. And I did hear that Traumend went in its own direction in some ways, so maybe a lack of manga wouldn't matter in the slightest?

And nothing says the anime producers (if there is a 3rd season planned) couldn't consult with the manga authors and ask for input about how to end it. Or, they are free, of course, to go on their own. Not every manga ending is perfect, and not every TV ending sucks.

Yes, the manga got prematurely killed due to unreconcilable differences between the artists and the publisher/editorial staff. Basically: big fight - they didn't even get their fanmail for months. Anyway, Peach-Pit have said that they still loved the work and were hoping to do something for their fans someday, but of course the trick here is the legal mess these types of disputes cause (who owns rights to what?).

But, in any case, the anime can definitely take its own path, as by in large it already has. As you alluded to, most of traumend was anime-original to begin with. So if they can get the legal issues settled, it wouldn't surprise me if they make more anime (as, anime sales-wise, things have been getting better and better for them, with the overture OVA doing quite well indeed).

That being said, this is most definitely a game announcement, as the Flash movie shows a few screenshots (looks like an online Flash game of sorts?) NEC Biglobe also gave it away. But, still, could be a good sign for more to come.
