View Full Version : Kurogane no Linebarrel
I was browsing around the site that can't be named, and came across this interesting manga series getting its own anime. The official site is here (http://www.linebarrels.jp/) but it only has a line of text on it and isn't open yet. Shimizu Eiichi and Shimoguchi Tomohiro do the manga and they're up to eight volumes this month.
The only real information outside of Japanese comes from a blog here (http://takk-otakujournal.blogspot.com/2007/01/kurogane-no-linebarrel.html) .
The outline in Volume 1 explains that Kouichi became a despressed due to an accident in his childhood.
The boy who had awoken obtained unknown power before long.
And, in three years,a huge doll robot "Line barrel" that was the cause of the accident appears in boy's presence.
The character of "Kouichi Hayase" is worse than that of Amuro and Kamille.
It is believed that it has irritation that the screw bending and is adolescent, and I am the strongest, and it is the lowest man.
Swinging of the mind in one's teens that everyone all over the world thought of is splendidly expressed maybe.
As for it and this excellent cartoon, the picture is speedy. You should check the artist's homeage,he has other catoons.
Heres the artists homepage (http://www.h7.dion.ne.jp/~n_circus/) .
The manga designs look nice, especially in volume three (http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/441/41h6eaakcflss500bv4.jpg) :beat:
No date yet, but it would be silly to think this wouldn't be a 2008 show.

I have a short story collection by the same writer/artist team, and it was a mixed bag; some really fun stories, and some that were just boring. The art was generally pretty solid.
And there just aren't that many mecha manga. Will have to check this out.

It's always good to have your endorsement Andrew on things like this Andrew(lets me know it's pretty good ). Designs look nice, will have to wait for the staff but I'm going to follow this one.
Just an update that the official site is up with a nice manga illustration. We also get some staff details..
And the animation is going to be done by GONZO of all people. Hopefully it isn't complete crap, but they've done mecha before..
Masamitsu Hidaka directs..
-Storyboards for s-CRY-ed, Turn a Gundam
-Director for Gundam X, Pokemon?
Hisashi Hirai handles the designs as well as animation director
-Gundam Seed(nooooooooooooooooooo)
Heres the interesting name, at least for me:
Creative Producer: Goro Taniguchi
I'm not a fan of Hirai's Gundam Seed designs at all. I don't want to have a mini Kira running around with shades of Gundam Seed...

Official Site (http://www.linebarrels.jp/) is open with an impossibly bad ass image. Sold.

That seems familiar
I'm fine with the director and Gonzo, I just hate Hirai's designs. GSEED, Fafner, everyone looks the same.

Agreed. I'll watch a series purely based on its promotional poster. GONZO and I have a bit of an abusive relationship, and I'm not exactly a fan of Hirai, but why the heck not? It looks like the kind of series that will go "all out" whether we like it or not.
Thanks for the recommendations.

Yeah, nothing we haven't seen before, but something about the composition makes it pop.

I like the robot designs. I'd seen some pictures floating around \m\ a while back, and wondered what they were from. They looked like a mix of Evangelion, RahXephon and Zone of the Enders mechs rolled into one.
No problem with Hirai's designs - liked Fafner and Heroic Age - and I've no complaints about Gonzo animating the show. Of the few robot shows of theirs I've seen - FMP, Vandread, Gad Guard - they were pretty good, IMO. I'll be interested to see how this turns out.
The big things for me will be if this is one of Gonzo's "high profile" shows in which they don't royally screw it up like they did with Glass Fleet. I know I sound like a broken record but I really don't want to see Hirai's Gundam Seed/Fafner designs in this

I think I already expressed interest in watching this on "that" forum, I already dl the first chapter of the manga which I'll read this weekend probably.
As for Hirai's designs isn't he adapting them from the manga? Or did he do the manga character designs as well? Either way of that image on the website it looks much better than anything he has done since Scryed.
As for the Gonzo factor I just hope that for this upcoming Spring they don't work on as many shows as this year. They're already doing Special A with AIC, so Linebarrel is their only solo project so far. If those 2 are the only shows they're working on the animation quality might be alright. I just hope the god ugly CG from Dragonaut doesn't make a reappearance.

Yeah, thats what I was getting at.

Maybe with Macross Frontier being in the same season it might make Gonzo lift their game... yeah right it will probably be like Boobanorks I mean Dragonaut.
You know that Macross Frontier is going to come on swinging visually. Gonzo could make this a pretty good series, but we'll have to see with the so so staff and Gonzo's history. I'm hoping for the best as the manga and manga designs seem interesting enough as well as some generic mech meets school combat.
The main site has a movie link now but IE is acting up so I can't get to it. Why can't they just take Firefox? :susel:

I was browsing the Site U Know I can't name and someone put up a scan for this. Looks more similar to his Scryed designs more than his SEED and up work thankfully.

*waits for Gonzo to reenact the Captain Ramius Archangel gets hit and my boobies shake scene with Kizaki Emi. Though going by R+V, every time her line barrel gets hit we will get a pantie flash*
Also apparently the website said this is meant to come out in Autumn, maybe Gonzo saw Frontier and were like dammmmmn let's push this back and not do another dragonaut!

It's not very interesting - just the cast doing the usual "please watch our show!" spiel. It's also quite fiddly to get at as it's done through Bigglobe and you have to sign up for stuff etc.
Thanks for the scan. Yeah they do look like Scryed designs and that makes me breath a little easier. I don't hate the guy but everything looks the same in a crappy way  .
As for Gonzo, I'm sure a lot of studios took note of Frontier's impressive animation and might hold back certain series

Oh, good, that gives them a little while to really work on it this time. Thanks for the pic. I must say that it (still) doesn't look bad.

The artwork does remind me of s-CRY-ed, but it still seems a little different -- better, possibly? It certainly has this dark, different look to it that I just can't place...
Like everything Gonzo they looked a little more "polished". At times with things like Heroic Age and GSEED, hell even Fafner the animation and designs had this "rough" quality to them.
Just a minor update that I thought was noteworthy for those of us looking at the designs. If you click on the yellow hyperlinks below "cast" you'll get some line work.

I've been hating on this show but the trailer looks promising.

One thing is for sure, the CG is much better than Dragonaut.
As I said in the TAF thread, for Gonzo it looks pretty nice. I'm really looking forward to this even if everyone looks like they came out of GSEED.

Certainly looks like we won't have any complaints about animation quality.
My how time flies. The trailer looked nice, now this from ANN:
The official Japanese website of the Linebarrels of Iron (Kurogane no Linebarrels) robot anime series has officially opened and announced that the first episode will premiere at Anime Expo 2008 in Los Angeles this July. Director Masamitsu Hidaka (Pokémon, Juu Senshi Garukiba) and Gonzo are adapting Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi's "real battle action robot" manga. The story follows a boy who is injured by a satellite accident and reawakens half a year later with strange powers. He eventually joins a medical conglomerate to pilot its Linebarrel robot. The date of the Japanese premiere has not yet been set.
Something interesting on the official site is that they now have a full site in "well to do" English. It reads almost like a R1 companies site, perhaps a coproduction partnership?
http://www.linebarrels.jp/english/index.html
With the first episode appearing at AX according to the last news we got, it's starting to sound more and more like this will be an announcement from someone license or con wise.
