Ok this is about the three episode movie not Read or Die the TV series (which I am looking forward to watching though) since I haven't seen that yet. Been posting way to much today but I just had to post after seeing this. Man this was crazy, but so wonderful! It was like James Bond on crack (MASSIVE amounts of crack) played for humor. Great action, crazy interesting characters (the paper is so MOE) and an entertaining if not very meaningful story. Great romping fun. If you haven't checked this out do so!

this is really a strange coincidence. i've been spending the last couple of hours importing a bunch of anime soundtracks onto iTunes so i can take it with me on my trip to visit my family tomorrow. just as i had just finished importing R.O.D. OVA soundtrack and started in on the TV soundtrack, i see this thread. weird, huh?
anyway, good suggestion on the R.O.D. OVA. i was looking for something to bring with me to watch while i'm visiting the family, so this will be good. another strange coincidence is that i had selected Twelve Kingdoms Set 1 to take with me on the trip and it's now part of the TRSI Bundle of Joy 2! ok, i'm just reading too much into it... :P i better get to bed cause it's nearly 1:30am.

I actually just watched this for the first time last weekend. R.O.D. The TV made me want to see it. Of course, if you watch R.O.D. The TV first you assume lots of stuff happens in the OVA that doesn't. But it's still good fun nonetheless. I typically don't care as much for non-stop action, but I loved it.
I was confused about the whole Nancy and her clone thing. Which one actually survived at the end, the Nancy that befriended Yomiko at the beginning or the "evil twin" Nancy that seemed like she drowned thanks to the first Nancy?
Oh, and Yomiko's obsession for books in the OVA amused me, how she'd chase down the bad guys just to get the book they took.

The "evil twin" Nancy is the one that survives. That's why "good" Nancy asks Yomiko to take care of her "little sister". The result of the near-drowning was some brain damage, and in her diminished mental capacity, she is no longer evil.

Ah, makes sense. Thanks.
Does anyone know if the R.O.D. manga or novels fill in the gap between the ending of the OVA and R.O.D. The TV?

The first volume of the R.O.D. manga is, from what I hear, basically an adaptation of the first novel. It shows how Yomiko and Nenene met. The remaining volumes are manga original material and don't matter (if anything, they may cause some plot holes if you try to treat them as being in the same continuity).
The Read or Dream manga is a bunch of slife of life-ish stuff and, again, if anything it will cause headaches if you try to treat it as being part of the same continuity as the TV series.
I remember reading about the novels in an Anime Insider article a while back. Unless there have been more novels since then that deal with events in the anime, they provide background on Yomiko and Nenene (since they were both originally characters in the novels) but don't really deal with the events of either anime.
So the short answer is, the manga definitely does not and the novels don't either as far as I know.
I love the way Yomiko says "Nan-shi".

wait! i just finished watching R.O.D. OVA last night and I did not get this. i don't recall the scene that Nancy asked Yomiko to take care of her "little sister". may be i was half-asleep cause it was kinda late. so, are you saying "evil nancy" was the one that was on the rocketship with her dead boyfriend? if so, why would she betray him and kill him? and are you saying that "good nancy" had partially drowned, so that's why she had brain damage? oh, wait! *smacks head* ok, you guys are saying that "evil nancy" had partially drowned and was sort of mentally-handicapped. i did recall Yomiko saying she that she was a friend of "evil" nancy's older sister. the weird thing is that watching the R.O.D. TV, i would never have thought that it was "evil nancy" that survived.
ok, hope i hid all the spoilers!

Nancy wrote the request on the bookmark Yomiko gave to her earlier in the show. If I remember correctly, she passed it to Yomiko as she pushed her from the rocket.
Hope that helps!
