I have to say I like this "re-imagining" a lot. The removal of secondary characters, and other fluff while intensifying the relationship between Yukito and Misuzu. I don't recall:

Mizuzu dying in the TV series. Did she? Anyways, the way it was done in the film was just beautiful.

It's directly implied. I'm not sure how anybody could have gotten a different impression.

Heh the funny thing is the removal of secondary characters is part of the reason I'm passing on the movie. Others have already talked about the spoiler so I don't need to say anything.

I have to agree with you there, that's one of the main reasons that I prefer the movie over the series.
