I'm currently in quite a predicament because there are some soundtracks I really want and some R2 DVDs (namely Mind Game and Pale Cocoon). Getting one thing will very likely mean that I wont be able to get the other, which is a damn pity, because I rarely ever am able to import. Anyhow, does anyone know quickly R2 DVDs tend to go out of print? I'd like the prolong getting Mind Game and Pale Cocoon if possible, because some of the soundtracks I want were released in the early 2000s and seem to be in more danger of going OOP.

There is really no set limit. Obviously if it's a limited edition release then it'll usually be out of print quicker. Most normal releases stay in print for years unless superceded by a newer version. Basically any information that doesn't come directly from the distributor or a retailer is going nothing but a wild guess.

LE box sets don't stay around long. City Hunter only a few months & the SD Gundam set already OOP @ CDJ.
CH is having the DVDs released as singles starting this month at least.

Truth be told, many R2s can be found for much cheaper used on Yahoo Auctions Japan. Even using a proxy service... They'll even tell you if they got all the first press bonuses.
I wouldn't worry too much about something going out of print unless it's really old.

No set rule, but in general, niche stuff that doesn't sell very well and is not likely to get a new edition anytime soon will probably go out of print faster.
Whenever you have specific titles in mind, you should just keep tabs on their going rate and availability on Yahoo and on Amazon (both direct from Amazon and from Marketplace sellers).
Seems there's quite a few copies of Mind Game on Yahoo, but only one of Pale Cocoon right now (but it's currently only at 1800 yen).
