i signed up to specifically ask if anyone has heard that they might do an evangelion rebuild translation or a petition for such a thing. i've done a little research but nothing is really clear if it's going to get an english release.

Most likely someone will license it but I doubt a petition would help at all anyway...

It's Evangelion. Of course it's getting licensed. You really don't need to worry about this one...

And let me guess here, you'll likely have the standard edition, the gold edition, the platinum edition, the for heck of it edition, etc. Thus one can look forward to 15+ different versions of it.

The only way this doesn't get licensed is if the world ends first. I try to save my campaigning for shows that really need it.

ok, fair enough

how about original devilman than?

I had a fan sub of cutie honey. Eva aside, really what matters to me is subs of older shows.

I doubt we'll ever see any sort release for the original Devilman in R1 land or anywhere else, which is a shame as IMO it's bloody brilliant. :)
Considering it's a monster-of-the-week show from the '70s, (my favourite type of show, btw) it wouldn't go down too well with most folks today.

As for Eva, that'll get released, sure as night follows day. :)

I'd love for a greater variety of older shows to be released but the sad fact is, they don't sell without a huge nostalgia market driving them - see Robotech, Voltron, etc. Imaginasian have released some older series on burn-on-demand DVDs which significantly lowers their cost, and I imagine that's the only way older shows stand a chance of being released nowadays, sadly enough.

The petition issue here is, who you want to license it, rather than whether it will be licensed at all. ;)

Go Nagai doesn't do well for being licensed generally. Devilman Lady is available as a cheap set, released here by ADV - not sure if its OOP now.

I just want to know the release date for the DVD/HiDef version in the Japanese market.

Anybody know?

The six singles of Devil Lady (ADV's name for Devilman Lady) are currently in TRSI's Bargain Bin for $5/disc.
