During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.

Looks like we'll be getting something for all of the problems with live.

Interestingly, Siliconera (http://www.siliconera.com/2008/01/03/microsoft-ameliorates-xbox-live-downtime-disappointments-with-a-free-game/) have posted India's lost of XBLA arcade games and, as the game in question will need to be one released worldwide as this was a worldwide issue, it'll likely be on their list.

Please let it be SWOS, please let it be SWOS, please let it be SWOS...

Meh. They should send me something for my multiple consoles' problems over the past couple months. Like, a console that works this time!!! I swear, if they send me another borked console, I'm selling off the console and my entire profile which includes a number of XBLA games.

And if I miss out on this offer while my console's away, I'm gonna kick Bill Gates in the nuts. Yeah, right in the fucking nuts.

Ah so that's why I couldnt access live.
I just thought it was my internet being its usual annoying self and not connecting properly.

Nice to see we get some free stuff because of it.
I can never say no to anything free no matter how bad it may be, although I suspect this may get me into trouble one day.

Since the free game we're being given is due to Live issues and affected multiplayer, hopefully the game will feature multiplayer and thus limit the chances of the game being junk.

There are no games that would please everyone. What they should do is just give us all 800 points and let us buy whatever we damn well please.

Another idea: give a choice of 3-5 titles, with each person being allowed to only download one for free.

Obviously you didn't download the Yaris title. Thank god I missed that little gem...er turd.

Still I would have been nicer just to give everyone 400 pts to spend. Again I'm hoping for a new game like Omega Five or Schizoid.

Sadly I think they are going to take the easy route and just take an existing game and reduce the cost to 0 ms pts.

Geez am i supposed to thank them? The service's been slow/crappy for quite a while. PSN runs better and is free for christ sakes!
And this might end up being a game i already have or don't want...that would suck. Actually i guess it'll be a new and nice game, kinda like they did with Aegis Wing...

There are also less people on PSN, too. The overpopulation on Live is what's causing this.

I don't understand the complaints...

Microsoft didn't have to do a damn thing here, instead, they are offering up a free game of unknown quality to Gold and Silver members.

They could've just given Gold members a credit for one month of service and told Silver members to shove it.
Or, they could've just said, "Hey, Live is fixed now! Happy Gaming!" and moved on without doing anything.

I'm not saying we need to bow down and praise Microsoft. Maybe it's the optimist in me, but, isn't something better than [i]nothing[i]?

I agree. I don't own a Gold membership (I dislike the idea of buying a $60 game and then buying it again in the form of monthly online multiplayer fees) and I was not even aware of said problem. The fact that I get a free game is kind of like MS's way of saying, "Hey, we realize we just put you through hell trying to troubleshoot Vista at your girlfriend's house all evening so... Ummm... Here! Take this free game!"

Ugh, I hate Vista...

I've got a month of Gold free with my Elite, and haven't be able to try it out. No idea if I'd like it or not; guess I won't be buying it, ultimately.
If they gave nothing, I wouldn't have minded; giving something I don't want and pretending that makes up for it is actually worse.
A bunch of points to spend on Rock Band DLC would be awesome, though.

Not to drive my own thread off topic, but Vista is balls. My mother bought a new computer and I had to spend 3 hours training her on Vista. Nevermind that I completely avoided vista so I was learning stuff on the fly as I taught her.

I hated XP because of how froofy it looked, but I didn't think it was a horrible OS. Vista is a different story. It took everything XP made simple and threw it out on it's ear. :/

If I thought I could teach my mom CentOS or Mandriva, I would and just be done with it.

Anyway back on topic, comparing Xbox Live to PSN is like comparing McDonalds to that burger joint two blocks up at the corner street. Sure the burger joint may have great burgers, but they only have to deal with 1/100th of the customers at any given time and you won't find them anywhere except at that corner.

Yeah, it took me a couple weeks after getting Vista to turn off all the stupid new crap. It still gets sassy now and then but I can usually get it to behave. Sort of.

Once you disable what my friend refers to as "WMA mode" (WMA = "Wipe My Ass") it's not too bad. Provided you have a machine beefy enough to run it, that is. My biggest complaint is that it's an inexcusibly huge resource pig. :sigh:

I changed the appearance of XP to "Windows Classic Style" the day I first installed the OS.

Vista has not impressed me at all, but it also has a "Windows Classic" appearance setting and if I ever do change over to Vista, I think I'll use it.

It's not just the windows classic appearance that makes Vista bad. It's the entire package. Unfortunately it is now the standard for all new computers. That's good and bad in some ways. Bad in that it's a poorly done OS. Good in that it requires that new PCs have good enough specs to be able to run Vista.

It makes me sad that my mother is now using a computer with twice the processor and three times the memory of my system to read hotmail and visit QVC online.

Oh I know of the many issues with the OS, but if I did move to it I would set it to display in "Windows Classic". (gives it a Windows 98 type look)

I think the only people who are going to be forced into Vista are those who are gamers. (also new computer purchasers) At the moment it seems that XP will last a lot longer than 98 did, when XP came out. (as far as majority adopting it)

You could also build your own computer, then you can put whatever you want on it. Come the service packs the OS will probably rid itself of most bugs and performance issues. I find it interesting though that the people who mostly complain about it only web-browse and perhaps the occasional application user, while gamers, developers and such have little problems with it. I can get it free from my University but I'd rather keep XP.

And back on topic, where's the damn game MS? WHERE? I see you hiding behind the curtain MS, come out or I will stab thee...STABBITY STAB STAB!
