Reading the thread about the .hack//sign LE vol. 1 box, I wondered what the most expensive auction price was that's ever been seen on a R1 anime release DVD item?
I heard rumours a few years ago that a .hack//sign LE vol 1 box went for more than $400, but I never saw it myself so I'm sort of sceptical. What's the highest you've ever see anything go?

I recall seeing the original FLCL box on an ebay store once, the seller had quite a few stocked up apparently. I think the asking price was at least $120+. o__o

The .hack vol 1 LE box can be expensive. I managed to get mine for 50 bucks sealed a few months ago which was a nice deal. Fullmetal Alchemist Vol 1 with the black tin is pretty rare nowadays. I haven't seen it below 100 bucks. I can't think of anymore since I just woke up but I know there are more out there like these 2.

I heard about this one on the ebay forum on the retail some months ago. Someone posted a Neon Genesis Evangelion boxset with the box made from that guy that made exclusive ones for this and Gasaraki and a few other shows for like 1000 dollars and someone actually bought it.
Does anyone else remember reading about it too?

From my browsings, I think the later Viz Maison Ikkoku box sets. Most I saw one going for was $299 for a set, when MI was still being released quarterly.
Most I paid for a R1 DVD was $48 for Animeigo's Spirit of Wonder, in my kicked-head buying days  Paid same for AE's "Super Deformed Double Feature" (Scramble Wars/Ten Little Gall Force) VHS IIRC, even more of a rarity.
The Trinity Blood box was getting up there a while back, same with the Champloo box.

Wow that's a lot. I have the Evangelion Paul Champagne Box and it's beautiful but I wouldn't pay $1000 for it. Six years ago I paid $39 for it on Ebay and I thought that was expensive at the time.

That's very true. I managed to get two of these so I decided to sell mine on Ebay a little over a year ago and it went for $174. I was pretty surprised. They guy was from Ireland and he even wanted to pay for express shipping so it ended up costing him $200 with shipping. I hope he didn't end up paying more at customs.
The most I ever paid for a R1 DVD was for the City Hunter '91 box set. I recently paid $82 plus shipping on Ebay. It's probably not really worth that but after searching for nearly a year it became clear I wasn't going to find it cheaper than that. On Ebay I've even seen it go for even more than the $82 I paid. Even sellers in the Amazon marketplace are selling it for $130-$150. My $82 feels like a bargain in comparison.

While it's pretty much impossible to find a real version on ebay nowadays, the Cowboy Bebop Perfect Session box goes for up to $250 on places like Amazon.
Trinity Blood LE vol. 1 is the same way on Amazon. Prices start at around $50.

That's nothing. I paid $300 for my Cowboy Bebop Perfect Collection brand new back when it was in print in 2001. Then again that was back in the days when one Bandai or Geneon (Pioneer at the time) DVD was $50 each. Thank God times have changed. I had completely forgotten about my Cowboy Bebop box set until you mentioned it. Okay I take back what I said earlier, Cowboy Bebop was my most expensive R1 purchase at $300.

I sold a handful of these sets for $350 to $400.
Another noteworthy DVD is Battle Angel, which I sold my copy for $150.

Wait, what? Is there some special version other than the ADV single release? I have that movie in a box in my closet to make room for my artboxes. :P

*glances at Bebop box, Evangelion Champagne box, .hack//sign hex box*
I've been thinking about selling some stuff. This thread only increases that temptation.
BTW, anyone have an idea for how much all the Sailor Moon R1 boxes would go for?

Used/Mint I'd say $100 per set maybe more. New, well you can always put up an auction for $500 (with instant paypal payment) and see if you get any fish to take the bait.
If you could really get 400 bucks for that treasure chest shaped .hack LE box then I'd sell mine in an instant.

I had bought 2 of Animeigo's original Macross boxes, and sold one for $450 on Ebay

Nope—there is only the ADV release (apparently there were two covers), but it is very out of print, largely because James Cameron owns the rights (http://fast.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2004-11-22/cameron-talks-about-battle-angel).

The most I have ever paid for a single DVD was vol 1 FMA with tin off eBay for $90 shipped. About 3 weeks later I found one at a close out store so I picked it up also, figured I would wait and sell it. Then they said it was getting released again in sets so I never did. Figured no one would buy it. Maybe I should look into putting it up again.
But when I bought mine I had seen them going for $170 so I figured I got a good deal on it.

wow, some folks CAN get an investment back in anime. i think i'm too lazy to ever try to sell any of my anime, even if i don't like it. it's just a permanent part of my ever-growing library. or, maybe i should run a free anime rental for my friends and family and call it TANflix.

That's basically how I think. The only thing I ever sold was the box for Trinity Blood but that was because i bought it for that especific reason.
I don't sell any of my stuff. I collect it and if I can't just even stand to look at it, I'll probably just give it out as a gift as long as it is appropriate and not have to shell out money and thought for somehting else.

I already do that. At 2626 anime DVDs (and 1440 non-anime) on hand and 51 more currently in transit, I'm better then Blockbuster for most of them. The problem is a few of them take forever to bring them back...

I got $165 for the first GTO boxed set about a year and a half ago.
...I have no idea how the bidder concluded it was worth that much, but I gladly took the money.

The first two seasons (uncut version) should go easily for $100. If you have dic dubs, you may do best to list them individually. Some of the last few volumes of R go for $50 or more a piece. I sold an extra I had of the last part of season one for $35. The S and SS season will probably go for $90-$120. If you want the best results, post the auction links on livejournal SM communities. I think the dic dubs sell for more because that is what some of these kids grew up with. Seeing as it's been oop for years, the competition keeps getting fierce. Ebay wise, I'd go ahead and also add a BIN price at a nice (and sane) price point for you. :)
I actually sold my FMA black box since I only had the first and the last. I sold it for over $100. I wish I would have kept it. Ah well. I'm definately keeping my Cowboy Bebop box. :)

All of the FMA tins are OOP, right?
Because I could've sworn I saw the red tin at a store recently...
Should I?...

Man, this thread is making me wish I got those Samurai 7 artboxes I saw at a bestbuy on friday. I like the way the LE's look but they take up way too much space. I'm just way to lazy to try and sell that extra copy of volume 7. :offline:

That is 100% correct. :)
I think the one that usually has the highest return is the first tin. I'm not sure how much of a turn you can expect from the last one. If that is what you're curious about :D

50$!!! I was around when dvd first came out but I guess I was too little to remeber getting any. I think because we didn't buy any we actually liked till 1998 lol Thats bankruptcy right there although games from game consules are about that much and so are the new hd or blu ray discs.

I remember seeing on eBay a X-TV boxset with all dvds in slipcovers needing an opening bid of $500. Do not remember if there were any bids for it.

The highest SM disc ASKING price i saw was $149 for Volume 14 of the DiC dub (Love Conquers All) and $800 for all 14 volumes new and sealed
I recall a few eBay auctions where #14 went for more than that tho...
Thankfully, i was able to fill out my R-1 SM at a considerably lower cost
and if you look around, you might still find SM bricks from ADV at close to original list....

Someone just sold SM ADV Bricks 1 and 2 for $175 and $200 respectively! I was thinking of selling mine, considering my Season 2 is still sealed..... but I'm leaning towards not doing it...
