Say anything you want but particularly how you got into it...and how you've sold your soul to the series.

I had Zelda 2 for the NES. But back then, I never understood it so I never actually played it.

I became a fan by accident. I was at an EB games store the day Ocarina was released... and I was looking for my Xmas present. The store was pure madness. Full.... everyone asking the employees for their copies. And they taking them out of the boxes.

...still, I wasn't interested. Suddenly one of the employees saw me and asked me if I wanted a copy since she called and the guy/girl wasn't going to pick it up. I was with my mom (LOVE her) and reluctantly bought it.

Since I started playing I became hooked to it!!! I got lost in Hyrule and its people. It was the first game I played where I didn't care if there were other games worth playing, that I didn't feel the rush to play... I took my sweet time to play it. And when I as about to reach the ending I was quite sad. But besides all that, it has been the only long game I played quite a few times.

....so, when Majora's Mask came out... I didn't hesitate to order it. Finished it in about a week probably. But hours a day... one of my favorites.

Wind Waker never impressed me. Not even seeing it in action. In fact, the only reason I pre-ordered it was to get Master Quest. Seriously, I only played WW just because.

By then I wasn't sure if I wanted to try the GBC/GBA games, thinking they might not be as good since they were portable. I still gave them a shot and bought the Game Boy Player. The first one I played was Link's Awakening and couldn't believe how awesome and deep it was.

Then I played Oracle of Seasons: GREAT as well. Oracle of Ages the same.... however, a "friend" back them had it for a time and lost it.

A Link to the Past is a game... I might say I hate. Not because it is a bad game at all. It's just that every time I sat down to play, reached probably the sword; left the game aside.... and then had to start again. So many times I got tired of it. :susel:

The Minish Cap was also an incredible game.

Twilight Princess: You are going to kill me but aside from the graphics and music I wasn't impressed. Why? Expectations. A game that was originally meant for the GC was deliberately hold so it could be turned into a Wii game. So many times it happened that when I actually played it didn't delivered as promised.

I'm now into Phantom Hourglass and love it. Actually, I think that it is way better than WW ever was. And on the DS the cel shaded graphics look better than on a regular TV.

Ok, you're turn guys.

PS

I also have the Zelda bonus disk... so I can play the NES games whenever I want to. :susel:

Ocarina of Time blew me away and changed how I felt about gaming forever. I wasn't really into Zelda before OOT, but I remember asking my mom to pre order it for me for XMAS since I wanted the gold cartridge. I got it, played it, loved it. It's my all time favorite game and contains some of my favorite music ever in any video game. Lon Lon Ranch, The Goron's, I loved it all. I then went on to Majora's Mask and played it sparingly.

Twilight Princess was the big game for me. I had it pre ordered, checked the E3 videos and everything. But it was delayed, delayed, delayed. When I finally got it at Toys R Us I played it for three days straight and haven't touched it since after beating it. I liked the music, dungeons, and the world but the latter half of the game felt like thats all it was. The world could of used more going on or some sort of interaction at the later levels. I was starting to get dungeon fatigue right before SnowPeak Mansion. Dungeons like the sky one felt tacked on as nothing was really in it except scattered enemies and a boss.

It's disappointing to me that the game was delayed that long and it felt like after all that time it was "half done". Sure you had things like bringing the hot water to the Goron near the bridge, Agitha's bugs, and the usual heart pieces but I never felt compelled to go track them all down. I would of loved tons of more shops and other things open in Hyrule, buildings scattering the landscape in Hyrule field and the world being bigger in the sense that each area didn't feel like one room in a three bedroom house. Expectations of this being a MMO like Zelda(in world size and things to do) hit me hard when I finally beat the game and wondered why they just didn't put me into a room where I could pick my dungeon for most of the game as they pretty much held your hand telling you where to go.

My only Gameboy Zelda game was Link's Awakening DX which got me through a slew of hurricanes down here. The puzzles were fun, music catchy, and the dungeons were challenging.

But even after all of that I'm and will always be a huge Zelda fan.

My personal opinion about this game is that the pinnacle of the series was Link to the Past. Of course, with my love of the series, I preordered Ocarina of Time. And that ended my relationship with the series. Part of the fun is trying to find everything in the game, and without looking anything up, the only thing I was missing by the end of the game was 4 skulltulla. And then with Majora's Mask requiring the memory upgrade, I just never bothered with it again. I can't say I miss the series either...

Ocarina of Time was the first for me. Loved it thoroughly. Next was Majora's Mask, which is actually my personal favorite to this day. Then Wind Waker, in which I thought the cel-shaded graphics were absolutely perfect for what it was trying to achieve. Oracle of Ages......OoT Master Quest......Four Swords Adventures.....A Link to the Past......and now Twilight Princess. Overall, I love the Zelda series. There are plenty of flaws and areas to nitpick, but I never tire of running Link through Hyrule Field and slashing grass for rupees.

I think the fact that I own this figure (https://www.first4figures.com/component/option,com_myphp/Itemid,3/product,43/) (and have, essentially, a shrine to it in my living room) says all there is to say about my unholy love of the Zelda franchise. Or maybe it doesn't.. but I have plenty of other examples that do. And they're quite awesome at impressing/scaring people (depending on my need). :D My obsession with the manga is... unrivaled.

I'm not really sure how or why I became a fan (I lie, of course I do), but it's been many, many years. I first played Zelda on the NES when I was like, babysitting and stuff, but it was Ocarina of Time that really cemented my love. Though I do admit I didn't actually play that game myself until I got it with the Gamecube bonus disc (since during that generation, I'd bought a PS1 instead of a N64 - you know, back in the days I could only afford one system). Which is kinda funny considering I bought that game when it came out (in the midst of all the madness) for a guy I liked at the time.

Anyways, I have every Zelda game right now, though I still haven't played Oracle of Seasons yet. This was actually the last game for me to find, because I'd pretty much missed the whole gameboy color era. In the end I got it from a friend for free when she dumped her SP for the DS. (It was right under my nose the whole time?!) *boggle*

Ocarina is still my favorite. WindWaker was pretty cool, because of how it was so different. The oldschool handheld zeldas are awesome, but I think I enjoy Minish Cap the most for just plain ol' fun replay value. It wasn't difficult or anything, but it's just so cute. I like to play it. I liked Twilight Princess a lot (yay riding Epona!), but I don't know if it can dethrone Ocarina of Time. I didn't love Phantom Hourglass as much as I wanted to. I liked the new stuff it did, but it hardly pushed the limits - either for the game or the DS.

I always think it's sad when people who played/loved the older ones don't want to play the newer ones. Personally, I won't ever tire of the Zelda series, either - I love Link (and his adventures) way, way too much.

I'm not sure whether to take that to mean you want me to come to your house for good intentions or if you're planning to kill me. XD

Anyway, I remember seeing a cool Wolf!Link/Midna figurine recently too. Very nice looking. But that Fierce Diety Link stands out since I like Majora's Mask.

Now what would be REALLY neat would be to have an actual mask-sized replica of Majora's Mask itself. I'm sure one has been made, somewhere......

Just out of curiosity, does it have a built-in clock that says the time when struck? ^_-

Anyway, I'm a huge Zelda fan, liking pretty much all but a handful of games in the franchise (Zelda II, Link's Awakening, and Phantom Hourglass). Of all the Zeldas, my favorite from a storytelling standpoint would be Twilight Princess. However, I think when it comes to Zeldas that sell emotion, my favorite would be Majora's Mask. That game just had some amazing character moments with the music and the End of the World.

Frankly, I've long campaigned for Link replacing Mario as Nintendo's official mascot. I've just grown increasingly more and more...unimpressed with Mario as time goes on. But the exploration, storytelling, and characters of the Zelda series just keep bringing me back.

I owned Zelda (and really, there's only one game that's just called Zelda) on the NES, the GBA, and the Wii. Love it. I've finished the first quest in one sitting, I've defeated second-quest Ganon without taking a hit — perhaps it doesn't matter, but I only had the Blue Ring when I did that — and I've paid far more than my share in door repair charges.

Hated Link. Hated it. That's not what a Zelda game's supposed to be. It's offensive to the soul of a Zelda fan.

My favorite is Link to the Past. I don't know how many times I've played that one all the way through. It's disappointing to me when I take a hit against Ganon. He's not tough enough. But that's how Zelda's supposed to be.

I've never played the N64 Zeldas all the way through, but based on what I've played of Ocarina, I can say that my favorite Zelda game of Generation 5 is Brave Fencer Musashi.
:>

One of these days I'll get through Wind Waker, I swear it. I did finish Twilight Princess and loved it from start to finish. I do wish there were more to do between dungeons, though.

Can't yet comment on Minish Cap or Phantom Hourglass.

To be honest, I never got into the games until Ocarina of Time (N64). And even with that, my friend had to help me (I couldn't beat that darn water temple :sd: ). I bought Majora's Mask, but wasn't too thrilled with that. I actually really liked Wind Waker (GC). It was the first Zelda game I beat on my own and I was really happy to play through it. I also have the Ocarina of Time/Master Quest disk for GameCube. My sister gave me Twilight Princess (GC) for Christmas two years ago, which I started playing, lost interest in, then picked up a few months later and couldn't quit playing. I plan on buying it for Wii, but hopefully after a price drop, because I doubt I'll ever completely play through it. For the virtual console I bought the original Zelda for Nintendo and I realize why I didn't like the NES games. I'm terrible at them :sd: . Oh and I did go out and buy a copy of Link to the Past (SNES), but never played through it. Finally, in Smash Brothers (GC) Link was my favorite character to play as, but I do like playing as Zelda. I can't wait for the Wii version to see if Link is just as good and to see if Zelda's a good character too.

I've never played any of the GB or DS games, maybe I should look into that. And one final thing, I love the Legend of Zelda main theme song.

My 1st Zelda game was a Link to the Past. I got it for the only birthday party thrown for me. Don't remember how old I was turning. I got a cool stylus for buying Phantom Hourglass.

Link's Awakening was my first, and by far the best game the GameBoy ever had.
Played the SNES and the other two Gameboy ones on emulators, since I owned neither system.
Bought Minish Cap and played that over the summer; awesome, but the final boss sucked. Never beat him. Making you fight minibosses before him was just not even fair.
Phantom Hourglass was great as well.
Working on Twilight Princess now, but...it isn't fun. I like the story and the look, but there are some serious issues here. The lack of interaction with the world, the huge fields with nothing in them, the frequently boring dungeons - I'm doing the Temple of Time now, which has fuck all to do with time unless its time consuming, since they designed it so you have to play for three hours straight. Whatever happened to a warp panel to the miniboss room? And there is a serious issue in this game with having pieces of heart sitting in fucking trees in plain sight while shit you actually have to be clever and work for just gives you rupees. I'm worried the scale is getting too big for them to flesh it out properly.

Have the Gamecube disc with the two 64 games to play later this year.

I think they need to shake the franchise up at bit at this point - what about Zelda Gaiden? Scrap the tedious Western fantasy motif, do a steampunk one, or a modern setting - same sort of game play, but free themselves from all the trappings they've sort of become buried under.

Then, DON'T play Phantom Hour Glass yet since it is a direct continuation of WW and they tell you the whole story at the beginig of it.

Things I'd like to say:

- My favorite character of the series is Ganondorf; he's so cool.

- I also can't tell if Majora's Mask is my favorite one. Probably the reason I can't say that is because although I LOVE it, the not so easy to understand right away, gameplay makes it hard to play it many times.

But I agree that the game is more emotional than Ocarina; especially the ending.

- Funny you guys mentioned a shrine to it, since I actually had one. When I had all the games (on the GC) I had put them all on display with a candle. :sd:

- I also believe that it is time for the series to have a change; mainly to finally add voices.

I believe that when they actually do so and stop going into different graphic styles and stories for their games it would reach an status similar to Final Fantasy

I know I'm in the minority on this one, but this is the one thing I hope and pray they don't do. And not just because voice-acting in games is rarely more enjoyable than a spike in the ear. I like the little vocal effects.

No, I'm the same. I don't EVER want to hear Link talk. It would ruin him it for me, I'm sure. I like the vocal effects too. :neko:

I don't know how I feel about a re-imagining - I like the fantasy motif myself, but I guess I wouldn't mind some swanky alternate-universe/modern type... though I wouldn't want to see it stay like that. I like Link in his tunic and tights, holding a bow and arrow, what can I say? XD

I wouldn't mind playing as Zelda someday, either. :/

Technically we have heard Link talk, just not as Link. Whenever I watch Yuu Yuu Hakusho in Japanese and whenever Hiei speaks, I can't help but think "Link is talking!" since Nobuyuki Hiyama voiced both of them. Especially when Hiei fights with his sword - his sword swinging grunts sound exactly like Link's. What's the name of the guy who's starting voicing Link since Twilight Princess, by the way?

You can play as Zelda. In Smash Bros. :P

Hmm... Well, I was a kid when the first two came out. So I never really got far in either of them. Sure, I beat a few dungeons, but never too far.

My friends were more into the original Zelda than I was. I think I didn't like it as much because I couldn't figure out what to do after a certain point, so it was just aimless wandering. I bought and sold the first game (and the second) a bunch to Funcoland. The games were dirt cheap at this point (less than $2, IIRC) so it wasn't too bad. (I do know the Funcoland guy hated my friend and I though. :sd: )

So one day, my friend got Link's Awakening. I played it a bit over his house, and liked it. In fact, I loved it. So it made me want to try the first two (really the first one) again. So I remember going with my dad to Toys 'R Us and looking for it...

...But they didn't have it. :( They had a Zelda game for SNES, but not the one of which I was thinking, but I reluctantly got that one.

I got into the Dark World. And I got to the third dungeon (in the woods) but couldn't beat the boss. And it stayed like that for a while.

In the meantime, my parents got me Link's Awakening for my birthday. And I played it and beat it. It was the first Zelda game I'd beaten.

I eventually used Game Genie to beat the other three. (Link to the Past, Adventure of Link, and the original. In that order. :noodle: ) I've since beaten them all without cheating.

Anyway, I got Ocarina of Time soon after it came out, and beat it. Liked it. So I picked up Majora's Maask too. And I hated it. Still do. Never beat it, though I plan to some day. Last time I tried (on the Cube collector's disc) I couldn't even get out of the first area and into the town. Ugh. I promptly sold it, and haven't missed it.

I had a Gameboy Color, but I never got the two games in the Oracle series. I eventually got them, used, and played through them once or twice each. (Ages once, Seasons twice) I wasn't thrilled with them. Ages was annoying, with the having to warp back and forth between the two time periods. I'm specifically thinking of the path to the 7th(?) dungeon, where you have only a little tiny bit of screen to land in, and if you're slightly off, you have to watch the entire animation again in reverse in order to try again. Make up several screens of this, and I get annoyed. This part is the first thing I think of when I think of Ages, and it doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. As for Seasons, I liked the classic bossed they threw in there such as Digdogger. However, I didn't enjoy the changing of the weaknesses (Digdogger hates SOUND, noot being squished! Why won't the stupid instument kill him?!) Add to that, that I wasn't thrilled with the ingame items, and some of the puzzles, while I knew the solutions, were irritating to pull off, and I decided to sell of both games in this pair and haven't missed 'em.

Windwaker. Bought it from my friend after he beat it and wanted to sell. Played it through and liked it, but the sailing really killed it, in my opinion. the map area, based on the amount of empty space, should really have been 1/4 of what it was. The game itself, save that, was solid, but not something I'd replay again too much, so I got rid of it.

Briefly played Four Swords, but never enough. I plan to rent it and beat it eventually. Haven't played Minish Cap or Phantom Hourglass yet either. They're on my list.

Hated Link. Hated it. That's not what a Zelda game's supposed to be. It's offensive to the soul of a Zelda fan.

LIES! Zelda 2 is awesome. In fact, I think that it's one of, if not my favorite, Zelda games of all time. I love the music especially. I can understand why some don't like it, but I think it's a solid entry in the series.

I'd still love a HUUUUUUUGE open Zelda. Twilight Princess was open but with the Wii you can do so much more. Eight to ten towns, real towns with tons of shops and everything, interesting dungeons(remember Hyrule Lake filling up in OOT after you beat it?) and some sort of system where you could maybe upgrade your gear and so on. I do agree that they need to give the game a boost in the next installment as Twilight Princess was good but stale at times.

I got hooked with Link's Awakening on the Game Boy and have enjoyed most entries in the franchise since. That said, I've recently tired of them for being so damned formulaic - set out on quest, enter dungeon, find new item in said dungeon, defeat dungeon boss with said item, gain mystic important item, repeat approximately 8 times, defeat final boss with mystic important items. NEVER SPEAK.

I'd love a 'traditional' RPG set in the Zelda universe, Final Fantasy style, just to mix it all up a bit.

Yes, because giving the main character a gun to spice up the franchise did worlds of good for Sonic the Hedgehog.

Honestly, the biggest problem I see with the Zelda franchise is the only game in the franchise with a "living world" is Majora's Mask, and that's because of the 3 day cycle. Every Zelda game, we are expected to believe this world exists where every species is neatly segregated into 3 little towns and a farm all carefully placed around the game world inbetween large spanses of nothingness. Where Zelda needs to evolve is in re-establishing a Living World, and for the love of God...a forest isn't a bunch of rooms surrounded by trees!

I wouldn't mind a somewhat modernized version of Zelda...as long as they still incorporated the Master Sword into it in some way...it just wouldn't be Zelda without it.

My Zelda history gets a little personal.

In the fall of 1997, I got Zelda 1 for the NES because I was hyped for Zelda 64. I loved it, etc. A few weeks later, my parents came to talk to me while I was playing it. So, while the Zelda theme overworld music was playing, they told me that we were moving. My life as I knew it was ending, and the Zelda theme looped over and over while I was crying. Not good.

Summer 1998. I rented Link to the Past (and WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game) about a bazillion times. I was still hyped for Zelda 64.

November 1998: It finally came out! Zelda 64 was out, and I was so happy. It took me two months to beat it.

Christmas 1998: I got Link to the Past, a GBC, and Link's Awakening DX. I was in Zelda overload, and sometimes my knowledge of the games got mixed up so I would run around for hours in one game looking for something that actually existed in another game :|

Sometime in 1999: I got Zelda 2. It frustrated me.

October 2000: MM! It frustrated me even more. I didn't even make it to the first dungeon before I went back to my Dreamcast.

Whenever the Oracle games came out: Got them both on release day. Was home sick that day (really), so that worked out. After a few weeks, I got tired of them and never finished them.

Early 2003: Zelda bonus disc and WW! The Master Quest pissed me off, but I completed it. A few years later, I traded that motherfucker in towards a 360. WW was cool until the Triforce quest. I stopped playing right there. Then I got a special Action Replay just for WW, and that let me skip the Triforce quest and move right on to the awesome ending. It was all kinds of epic.

Whenever Minish Cap came out: I skipped this game.

Twilight Princess: I couldn't bear to play more than a few weeks worth of that game. My only lofty expectations were that it would be as awesome as Zelda 64, but it didn't live up to them, and I didn't care about it anymore.

I consider myself finished with the series. I don't care for it anymore. I still play as Link when playing Smash Bros., but that's about it.

The first time I played Zelda was the first one on the NES when I was just in kindergarten. This was before the series entered the "beat the boss with the item of the dungeon" formula that the later games have. Only made it as far as the boss of the sixth dungeon at that time because shortly found out that you had to beat it with the bow, but I sold off my NES and never got to try it out (I later beat the game on the GBA re-release). It's kind of silly you have to buy arrows since your rupees are your ammunition. What's the point? You may as well be shooting the rupees themselves from the bow at octoroks.

Rented Zelda II. Never cared for it. Have the GBA re-release. Still don't. At least Miyamoto was trying to experiment. Though as mentioned, he should experiment on making Zelda herself the star.

To be honest, I didn't get truly into the Zelda games until I heard of Ocarina of Time. Noticed it was hyped up, rented it for the N64 years later, brought back forgotten memories from the old days. Mainly the puzzle solved tone. Later bought it and have played through it many times.

Later I've gotten Majora's Mask and in fact, it's my favorite Zelda game of them all. Played through many times. Probably my favorite because there were some parts that almost made me cry, and I Deku Link is cute.

I have also played Link's Awakening DX on the GB. A lot of times I've played through this game as well. I liked looking for the photo spots. Even the one where you shoplift, but it's annoying to be called "thief" throughout the game until you go back to the shop and die.

As for the Oracle games, I've beaten both of them twice (reverse order the second time) and to be honest, I have to play these again. My memory from this is fading. Ditto for A Link to the past. Dunno if I should replay the GBA remake, or just download it off the VC. I have the SNES cart, but it's too glitchy and my data keeps disappearing.

Later down the line came Wind Waker. At first I was like "WTF?!" with Link's new design. I shortly grew over it and it turned out to be another Zelda masterpiece. The sailing was a bitch though. played this one a number of times as well.

Twilight Princess. A unique Zelda game with new gadgets and the ability to turn into a wolf. It was fun game, but at the same time a little rushed. It was like later on, you didn't need rupees, and I never did get that magic armor. Played it once on the Wii, still have to try the GC version.

The Minish Cap which i just completed recently, a little more the same compared to the classic style Zelda game and didn't offer anything new aside from some new items, the origin of Link's hat, and the ability to shrink. But then again, I personally enjoy Zelda games so I can overlook this.

And of course, the recent Phantom Hourglass. The control style was original and great for a Zelda game. it combined the classic style and overworld styles well. Sailing was still a bore, but Nintendo improved it here. At I didn't have to pull over and conduct the wind just to travel in the opposite direction. Also, Linebeck is the best supporting character in a Zelda game. Though many will disagree.

Come to think of it, the only Zelda games I haven't played are Four Swords Adventure, Link's Crossbow Training, and those CD-i games (do I have too?).

Yes. And you must enjoy it too, or you're not a true fan.

Well, I do want to try some crossbow training, but I don't want to bomb some dodongos. And besides, a CD-i is too hard to find. Yeah, there's ebay.

My history with Zelda is this. Back in the day I played "The Legend of Zelda". It was an interesting game at the time even if I died quite a bit. The idea having a save was kind of interesting. Later on I played Zelda II: Adventure of Link. It was certainly a change of pace, but it still worked in some ways.

Then came Legend of Zelda: A Link to the past. It was like playing a souped up version of the first game in some ways. Still it definitely had its moments. Next came Zelda: Link's Awakening. Which I found to be rather nice over all.

I never did get around to trying any Zelda games for N64, Gamecube or Wii. I don't even have a Wii anyway. Plus I missed out on some of the portable ones. The last Zelda I tried was Zelda: Oracle of Ages. A game that left a bad taste in my mouth. Thanks to the Goron Dance stuff. *Hates Gorons now*

Zelda was a series I had high interest in back when I was younger. I also have a bit of respect for the series helping me to get into gaming in general. Although it was one of several series to be fair. However I no longer get excited over the idea of a Zelda game existing as I would have in the past.
