Well this is a bit odd - This will be my first time attending this convention; and I'm starting the thread :sd: As of 2/4, only 4 guests have committed to attend; and 4 Bands(!). But I'm totally pschyed about seeing Ali Project live, EASILY one of my favorite anime song-producing bands. Also hope I'm ready for 4x the amount of people then I'm used to at a convention.

Don't be shy! Who else is going this year? Speak up Vets :)

Oh man, Ali Project :beat:

That's enough to get me thinking about going... I'll have to look into some stuff.

Yeah I'll be there since I run the miniature gaming room. Five years running as the Miniature Gaming Coordinator (okay everyone get the old jokes out your system now). I guess one of the big items is

ANCEA/Sakura-Con 2008, with the gracious support of Bandai Visual USA, is pleased to host the premier of HARUKA: Beyond the Stream of Time—A Tale of the Eight Guardians. In honor of the US premiere, the director of HARUKA, Aki Tsunaki, will be a Guest of Honor at Sakura-Con 2008, March 28th-30th, at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle, WA.

Bandai Visual USA recently announced the release of Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time—A Tale of the Eight Guardians on DVD. HARUKA is a hit Japanese romance adventure video game which has been adapted into an equally popular manga in Japan. The first volume of director Aki Tsunaki's animated version of HARUKA is set to hit store shelves April 22, 2008. Members of Sakura-Con will be the first to see this amazing new anime in the US.

If I have time I guess I take a look at it for S&G.

Unless we can get enough people for a "meet & greet", I'll have fun trying to pick out AoDers among the 4,500+ OTHER people going to this thing.

And someday, you'll be the fully-grown Gaming Coordinator.

Yay!

As usual, I shall be at the con (this will be my ninth consecutive Sakura-Con), as will Arcturus.

After attending Sakuracon for the last 2 years (enjoying it each year), it seems that I won't be able to attend it this year. :(

Part of this is due to it being so close to Anime Boston......

Still, I seriously considered attending both this year....

Heck, I even considered taking a single extended trip......heading off to the PacNorWest directly from Boston on Monday (3/24) and spend some time 'playing tourist' once again in the Seattle or Portland OR areas before heading to the con.

However I ultimately decided against such a long trip (12 nights)......even though I was able to find a very reasonable airfare of $359 for the 3 leg itinerary (NYC-BOS-SEA-NYC).

I also considered not attending AB this year just so that I could attend Sakuracon.......

Oh well.......perhaps next year the schedules will work better.

Have fun! :)

Well I just registered counting on a free flight voucher that I want to get the most out of. This will be my 3rd Sakura-con, but I haven't been back in a few years so it'll be nice to see the downtown location. Now just to find a deal on room.

This will be my fourth in five years. Or is it fifth in six years? I can't even remember now.

4,500+? More like 10,000+ as we easily pasted that last year.

I was using the pre-reg list for a number; as I have no idea for a ballpark number. (well, I do now) I know this convention is in the Top 10 attendance-wise, but it doesn't mean I could translate that into a number. :sd:

I'm not sure if this is kosher, so mods, please let me know if I'm overstepping any boundaries enforced by the board.

Toshihiro Kawamoto is going to be at Sakura Con this year, and I'm guessing there will be a time during the weekend where he will be signing stuff. I have a Japanese Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door theatrical poster that I'd love to get signed, but I'm unable to attend Sakura Con. Would a kind soul on AoD be willing to help me out and get it signed for me? I'm willing to pay you for your time, and I live right in Seattle (Greenlake neighborhood), so I could meet up with you to drop off the poster and pick it back up. I'll supply a cardboard poster tube to transport it, too.

If anyone is interested in possibly lending me a hand, please email me at nicolas.george@gmail.com

Thanks!

If you haven't done so yet go on their forums & vote for an Ali-Project anime theme for them to perform.

With thousands registered there are less then a 100 votes so your vote can make a difference!.

.hack//roots is currently in the lead with Noir just behind. Noir gets my vote.

I'm contemplating not going this year. I've got the time off from work (I work weekends), but I'm not feeling particularly enthused about anime and especially anime fandom right now.

http://sakuracon.org/programming/schedule.php

Find it a bit confusing in pdf format because of the overlapping days.

Not on their guest list, but I already see a manga-ka in one of the autographs sessions. Yuna Kagesaki who seems to be the person behind "Karin."

I think we all feel that way at some point or another especially the older you get. I wonder when my time will come, but seven years later anime still draws me in and being able to see & hear & ppl(the JP guests) directly involved in it's production is still very appealing & the main reason I still go to cons.

Holy crap I got two bigger rooms to fill! You see I'm the Miniature and Tabletop gaming coordinator. I thought I was going to get room 306 again like last year. I look and it seems as though I have room 305 and 304 yikes. I'm going to have to see what I can do about that. Maybe have roleplaying take over 305 and use 306 as secure storage.

Enh. I can't remember the last time I went to a con for the CON. That being said,, since I have friends coming in for said con, I'm likely gonna have to miss an event from another local non-anime group I would have like to go to. *sulks*

Wow, you guys make me worry about the future about cons now. I haven't taken anime seriously in years and now that I think about it, I'm wondering why I do go to cons anymore.

At Sukura con that will depend largely on you. We have arcade room, console video game room. room for portable gaming. Several theatres to watch anime shows both sub and dub. panels that discuss all sorts of different topics. Industry panels to see and hear VA, studios and Q & A where sometimes we get lincense or release info. A huge dealers room to buy all types of unique items. Dances and concerts of j-pop music and bands. Cosplay contests and skits or fasion show. Anime Music Videos and fan-fics. Or you can just walk around snapping pictures of the hunderds of people in costume. Sakura con is still a fan run con so there are tons of free and fun things to do.

Speaking of Music and Anime and such; it seems that BVUSA is trying to have one heck of a convention. They're already premiering HARUKA; and now they're premiering Shigofumi as well -- with Ali Project to perform their OP song from the show!

Press Link from ANN (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2008-03-17/shigofumi-letters-from-the-departed-to-premiere-at-sakura-con-2007)

(I know the title of the article says "2007", but it's definitely a typo :sd: )

Catch them before Sakura-con while they're on their Japan Nite Tour which comes to Seattle on the 20th. This will give you a chance to see them up close in an intimate venue as opposed to whatever SC may have setup.

I regretably missed Scandals' act here in Chicago yesterday because I followed the time on the ticket rather then the site which was an hour earlier. But it was a great bargain & awesome show for still over 3 hours of live music for the $10 admission charge. Bring some extra for CD's & T-shirts though.

Some pics of Scandal since their site & myspace don't show them.

Not going to be in Seattle till the 25th :( Otherwise I'd totally be there!

And now with the BVUSA delays, I wonder if they're still going to show Shigofumi? Definitely not going to miss it if they still are.

Okay, I showed up. Look for the guy with a beard and glasses in a black and white flannel jacket, carrying a red and black courier bag and a motorcycle helmet. I'm sure I'll have a grumpy look on my face but that's normal. Don't be afraid to say hi.
