That would be the Game Developers Conference. More infos here (http://gdconf.com/).

Work is sending me. So what can I expect? Do they have any game demos in the big expo room that I can try out? A lot of the industry have booths there, so I was wondering how it works. I know the conference is mostly for the tutorials, demos, talks, meetups, etc but there is that big expo area...

Also, anyone else here going?

Outta curiosity, why are you getting sent there?

Anyway, I haven't been myself, though I could probably get in, but it's not an odyssey of game demos like E3 used to be. It's more focused on the development side of the equation - what the devs are doing and where the industry should be headed into the future.

Yeah, I know it's mostly game development stuff and that's what a lot of it focuses on. But that still doesn't explain the exhibition room to me.

Professional development.

Seriously though, you can make a case for the fact that I'm a course developer and we're trying to bring in gaming as another means of learning. But other than that... yeah. I'm good at writing justifications apparently.

Well, I found one demo that'll be at GDC.

Guitar Rising (http://gizmodo.com/352800/guitar-rising-for-real-guitar-heroes) - Think Guitar Hero except instead of a plastic guitar you use a real electric guitar. That's such an awesome idea in teaching you how to play songs. I'm so trying this demo.

I doubt it'll be a commercial success since the appeal of Guitar Hero is its simplicity that makes it easy to pick up, but I have a hell of a lot more interest in something that teaches you some real skills like that. Very cool.

Well, most educational games aren't really a big commercial success, unless your game is called Brain Age.

Too bad right now I'm rocking an acoustic guitar so I don't have any jacks to hook it up to my computer. Maybe that's just a good reason to buy an electric.

Or you could get a cheap acoustic pickup.

This looks really cool. It would give me a reason to dust off my old Epiphone.
