Just thought I'd post this to let people know about a few changes that are going on with Comic-Con 2008. Apparently, due to increased attendance (125k in 2007, including exhibitors and professionals) they are upping the 4-day pass price to $75. Nothing new there right? Well this year there will be no time-tiered pricing; it's $75 now and it will be $75 until they sell out. No word on single day passes, except that they will be offered closer to the event.
This is all explained in the latest Update (warning: large PDF!) (http://www.comic-con.org/common/assets/upd2007_3.pdf). And in the section at the beginning entitled 'An Open Letter to All Comic-Con Attendees, Exhibitors and Professionals', they go on to state:
We expect registration to sell out again this year and at this point and time, we do not plan to sell any attendee membership badges onsite at Comic-Con 2008 for the convention.
Also, they put the rumours to rest that they will be leaving San Diego any time soon (they have a contract with the SDCC through 2012.)
Here's the Comic-Con website (http://www.comic-con.org/cci/) for other relevant issues (including the Guests and exhibitors.)

I picked up my pass for this year at last year's con. It was $50.00 then.

OK, true, that was the ONLY time it was cheaper than the cureent $75. I never seem to get next year's passes at the current con, if only because I never know if I'll be able to attend (sadly, I've still always attended.)

Ouch! Hm... I wonder if I can get it cheaper....

I got my ticket in January and it was $75. I think I might just get the ticket for 2009 over there as well. Was there any plans for an AoD gathering for this event?

Just heard (via Wil Wheaton's blog (http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/2008/06/2008-geek-tour.html)) that Tokyopop is pulling out of CC this year. Well as long as Viz is there giving out their bags (if they're not too busy with Tite Kubo, that is.)

Watch out for scalpers (http://weblogs.variety.com/bags_and_boards/2008/06/comic-con-ticke.html).

Whoa, I won't expect that will come to that. Waiting until the last minute to get the ticket just isn't a good idea.

Good question. Who's going this year, and who would be interested in a gathering? If it looks like enough people are interested, I'll start up a new thread specifically for a gathering.

It isn't too last to start early. I know I'm be going there for all 5 days. There is a restaurant right behind the convention called Joe's Crab Shack which is walking distance.

I'm going of course. Although I'm not planning on taking any days off since I'm getting out pretty early......

So let's set up a gathering already. What days are we looking at?

I'm thinking Wednesday comes into mind since the Preview Night will take place from 6pm to 9pm. There is a Starbucks if you want to meet up first before going to a restaurant. The program is up on their website:
Thursday (http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci08_prog_thu.php)
Friday (http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci08_prog_fri.php)
Saturday (http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci08_prog_sat.php)
Sunday (http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci08_prog_sun.php)

Actually I think Wed is a bad idea.... Thursday or Friday would be better.

OK, I'm going to create a thread with voting options for days. And then we can discuss where we want to go eat, etc.
