As noted in the links, Isao Takahata directed Chie, and Hayao Miyazaki directed Sherlock Hound, so this is sort of like getting a taste of Ghibli.

Um, thought Miyazaki only directed the six "pilot" TV episodes, before the deal fell through and it was revived with different directors?
Don't know of any "movie", unless it's episode compilations?

Read the links. Two episodes were screened theatrically along with Nausicaa. This is those two episodes, and they're calling it a gekijouban, which literally means theatrical version.

Miyazaki or not, I thought Sherlock Hound was at least a bit boring, and I think it would probably be boring to anyone that's not a young child, which is uncharacteristic of most Miyazaki stuff, usually it's at least somewhat interesting to me.

It was made during his early Lupin III/Castle of Cagliostro phase (those who saw the "White Cliffs of Dover" episode are right now saying "Gee, no crap, famous detective Holmes, THINK so?? :P )

And taken on that level, it's a good still a good early-80's-Miyazaki "Lupin Jr.", for those audiences either too young for Cagliostro, or who've already memorized it and the Streamline episodes, but to whom you still wouldn't, ahem...show the other Geneon Lupin III TV episodes--'Nuff said.
