The Tokyo International Anime Fair has announced the winners of the 7th annual Tokyo Anime Awards.

Khara's Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone movie remake was named the Animation of the Year for 2007. Under the rules of the award, the winning film must be one that "made the greatest contribution to the world of anime" during the year of its release.

Eva 1.0 kind of flew under the radar. It got huge buzz but seems to of tapered off. I'm sure when the R2 comes out people will get interested again. I'm personally hoping for the inevitable R1 license as the movie looks amazing animation wise.

A remake is last year's greatest contribution to the world of anime?

I'm not getting it; but I suppose if there isn't much competition...

Word, QFT!!

Erm, I also have to say that I'm just not sure/impressed by a remake having that much impact on anime in general. I mean, I know the industry is in decline and everything, but surely there were contenders that presented, at least, a temporary, problematic block in the path of the almighty Eva bullet train? :sd: :P

Huh? It was the top movie at the box office the week it came out adn did pretty good business for three weeks after that.

Rather than start a totally new thread, is the whole thing fully financed or is this one of those deals where Anno is releasing each film to finance the next film?

Yeah but I hardly heard anything about it after its release(judging by the AOD thread) after a while. I'll buy the movie the second someone releases it even though I'm not the biggest Eva fan.

What, were you expecting ANN to do daily "Eva 1.0, STILL KICKING ASS" articles or something? There's only so much coverage you can do on one movie. It's not like the Japanese version of Newtype had Howl's Moving Castle on its cover for six straight months.

Add in the fact that the R2 doesn't come out until April and that adds into it as well.

Unfortunately they aren't planning on releasing it on Blu-ray anytime soon... it'll be coming eventually I guess. But it might see a theatrical release in the US when it gets licensed, as well.

The first movie scores on its animation, more than changes to a very familiar story.

When/if new characters & situations are introduced in the sequels, interest will hot up more.

Hi-def Eva, Gainax bounce, and Pen-pen action.

The fanboy within me couldn't be more pleased.
