Ok, so I don't know if this is 100% legit, no one does, but take a look at the cover.

Looks like the Honneamise logo to me. English subs on the DVD. From Taewon.

So, any ideas on legitimity?

I can highly recommend the Australian release, as I've just finished watching it. R4, PAL, comes with the booklet. Japanese and English audio, English subtitles.

I got mine sent to the UK (and presumably Europe) by www.devoted.com.au

The problem with the Australian release is that it likely suffers from NTSC to PAL conversion, such as ghosting and sped up film. While the R4 version might be best for him there are also a lot of people here that have NTSC TV's I believe he was also trying to get the word out on a new release. As for the company they look legit in fact the English on there English site is quite good, in fact it looks like Taewon releases films in theatres, such as EVA 1.0. They also seem to be affiliated with the Korean MGM branch.

I wonder if this release might also have English audio. It's not listed in the specs, but the page has cast credits for Jane Alan and Steven Jay Bl(um)..

I'm aware of the nature of the forum, I was just trying to be helpful. I certainly noticed no problems with ghosting or speed-up on the R4 release. Certainly its an acceptable alternative for Europeans if you're not yet ready for the HD release.

Yes, this thread was created to find out if anyone else had seen more info on the Korean release and if it was legit.
I don't think I will be getting it unless I can find a good review that tells me that it is the remaster and has practically no EE.
I will probably get the Blue-Ray of BVUSA some time in the future.

I have the original Bandai R2 release and the Taiwan R3 release (had problems with old Bandai releases in that the image jumps up'n'down in little ticks much of the time. Not fixable, it seems, on the japanese DVDs but not apparent on the Taiwanese release of Honneamise and Patlabor Movie 1).

And the R4 DVD is reputed to be a NTSC to PAL conversion and not beautifully done, so no R4 for me.

I'd stick with the original R2 release until you get the Blu-Ray. Like many of BV's other recent HD remaster DVDs, the DVD HD Remaster version is filtered with EE and actually contains significantly less detail than the original. Check out the comparisons (scroll down until just before the bitrate graphs, 1st and 3rd columns are the HD Remaster DVD, 2nd and 4th colums are the original R2):

This is not legit. We had been notified about this thread and in turn we directed the inquiry to both Bandai Visual USA and Bandai Visual Japan. They both confirm that it is not legitimate.

Thanks for checking. I'll close this thread now as a result.
