Bad Guys Who Lick Thier Swords

While watching Star Ocean EX last night, there came a scene where the "bad ass" bad guy who likes to kill licks his sword to finish off his "I'll take care of our hero" type declaration. It made me realize, that is a rather common occurance in series with swords, though sometimes with other weapons.

So what's your favorite sword licking scene, and why do you think its is used?

That said, I can't really think of any scene like that that really sticks in my mind. I'm sure I saw one of that sort in Bleach at some point. And maybe Kenshin. But nothing really sticks out.

I hate them all as a rule. They're unhygenic, and they invariably translate to I'm about to get my ass kicked!

Picking a favorite would imply I like them which I don't. They're stupidly annoying. I think it's used to show the villain is insane mainly.

They do seem to be common in shows involving swordfighting, but I'm rather indifferent to them and none really stand out.

For as many sword-licking scenes I've seen, none are more engraved in my memory more than the OP scene in Hellsing where Seras's outstretched tongue is shaking as it approaches the blade.

Kannei from Ikkitousen likes his Tonfa for some unknown reason and Kenpachi from Bleach probably did it although I can't remember when.

Any bad guy in 80s OVAs otherwise, usually with a broom hairstyle or mohican & a big nose.

Witchblade, maybe? I'm sure Witchblade-Masane did that.

As a side note, I always thought it a little creepy when I first saw Dilandau lick his lips during a raid (I think) in The Vision of Escaflowne. But then, I was only relatively new to anime at that point.

I haven't seen Witchblade, so it can't be that. :sd: Maybe it was one of the later Devil Hunter Yohko episodes....

I stand corrected after rereading his first appearance in the manga...before beating up Sano he did indeed give the sword a little lick :P
