Okay, I was just watching Ai Yori Aoshi and I was reminded about the bonus episode on the last disc. Especially after a few years. After this I was thinking if there were any other anime that did this. Whether it was DVD exclusive or if it aired on TV.

Only other examples I can think of is the IGPX episodes that aired on CN several years ago and Shana-tan that went along with the movie and 1st & 2nd seasons.

Both Panda Z and Gag Manga Biyori 1 & 2 (and I'll imagine GMB 3 will be the same) were TV animes that had 5-minute episodes.

Chibits was a short episode spinoff/alternate angle story from Chobits.

A few of the series in my collection are in the "short" format, too:

- Adventures of the Mini Goddess
- Bottle Fairy
- Omishi Magical Theater Risky Safety

Magical Play was originally web shorts before they were compiled into 4 TV episodes.

And while not technically short episodes, each episode of Azumanga Daioh is comprised of about five 4 minute vignettes to capture the feeling of the 4-panel manga.

Does Tachikoma Days count?

You can also add Ground Defense Force: Mao-Chan to the list of aired titles (I believe it's around 5-7 minutes per episode).

Oh that's right. I forgot about the short theratical (I think) movie.

Yeah, the Azumanga Daioh movie is only 5 minutes, and Azumanga Web Daioh (ONA that is not on ADV's release) is pretty short as well.

Let's see, off the top off my head and looking at my collection:

Comic Party and Girl's High both had short bonus episodes with them that kind of added up to one normal episode worth of material.

To Heart and Green Green came with character specials which were only a few minutes long.

Fullmetal Alchemist had a few omake-esque shorts on the "Premium Collection" R2 disk, and so did Pretty Sammy.

Infinite Ryvius has a few shorts that take place between episodes on the "Infinite Ryvius Light" R2 disks, and I believe some other web-related shorts that we got on the R1's as well.

Naruto had that short "Sports Fest" movie.

Sailormoon had a short movie called "Ami's First Love", or something like that, as well as one called "Make-Up! Sailor Senshi".

Kurogane Communication, Risky Safety, and Shrine of the Morning Mist were about 15-minute episodes, if we're counting those, too.

Don't forget Keitai Shoujo.

The special edition of Patlabor WXIII came with an extra disk that had three short 12 minute comedic specials called Mini-Pato.

I've been thinking of double dipping on this 'cause I got the regular edition, and the Mini Patos are about the only Patlabor I don't own. The completist in me chafes at the thought.

Best Student Council also had a short 'pilot film' on one of the disks. It was suprisingly informative/spoilerish on the character's backstories and motivations.

Blue Seed had some really great short omake episodes, and Gun Sword had a lot of really dismal ones.

While not an omake or related to any other series, Dameko Doubutsu is about five minutes long for each episode. Pretty fun little series.

Iketeru Futari consists of, I think, 7-minute episodes.

Also, the original Digi Charat series consists of three minute episodes.

The Kero-chan theatrical omake, included on the SE of the second Cardcaptor Sakura film, is another. And what about those two or three shorts that came with the Japanese DVD's of the TV series?

Oh - Video Girl Ai had a few of these too, including one that didn't get put on the American release. I also seem to recall something like this for the Japanese release of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water. Can someone who knows more about the particulars of that show confirm?

Actually, the Kero movie is around 10 minutes (but I guess we're counting all "short episodes" here?). The Tomoyo Video Diaries are around 5 minutes each, and I think there are three of them.

Also, does the five minute short She and Her Cat count? It was sort of an "extra" that was included in the Voices of a Distant Star DVD and it varied with a five, three and one minute version.

Seems like it since some series mentioned are closer to at least 8 minutes even if you skip the opening and ending. Series like Asagiri no Miko, Mao-chan, etc are half-length as in 12 instead of 24.

Although some are a little longer than five minutes, don't forget Binchoutan (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=5314), REC (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6008), Φnal Approach (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4542), W~Wish (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4465), & Saishū Shiken Kujira (ONA) (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=8357 ). Mai Otome also included bonus shorts on the DVDs.

I do not remember how short they are, but the Omake Theater for Utawarerumono are worth a look. Some of the disks that did not have that did have a different short feature called "Utawarerumono: The Story So Far."
