A little late or early depending on what you think of it but this title has caught my interest for Spring. Looking for something to help me recover after the ending to Kimikiss Kanokon is a light hearted school romance comedy(I know what you're thinking, not four paragraph posts heh) that adds a touch of the supernatural.

Here is the plot summary:

Kanokon`s story revolves around Kouta Oyamada, a young first-year high school student who moves from the country to the city and thus transfers to Kunp� High School. On his first day at his new school, a beautiful second-year female student named Chizuru Minamoto asks him to meet her alone in the music room. When he arrives, she reveals her that she is in fact a fox deity and from that day on the two hang out together.
Nozomu is a first year female student at Kouta`s school, she is in fact a wolf deity and in love with Kouta, and a rival of Chizuru for Kouta`s affections.

Hijinks ensue of course but the great thing is that you get movement from the first manga chapter and by the looks of the preview the first episode as well which is always nice.

This is probably the show I am most looking forward to this spring. With two of my favorite seiyuu, Kawasumi Ayako & Noto Mamiko, as leads, I think this will end up being really great. Xebec has been hit or miss with me as far as animation studios go (hit: Stellvia & the Third/miss: Mahou Sensei Negima). Too bad Seven Seas won't have the light novel out by then.

I can't decide whether this show is R2 worthy. It seems Bandai has some type of involvement with it (at least, it seems to be related to the Bandai Channel). Well, it's not like I don't have four months to decide whether or not to import.

They could just be the distributor or the producer. I should check when I get home. I'm hesistant to buy R2s of anything that may come over through Bandai Visual USA (might as well just wait for the R1 release).

Kanokon--yes. As Lego said, Seven Seas has licensed it, for a yet-to-be-determined release date.

After 2 seasons Shana will end up with 48 episodes while after its 2 seasons Znt will only have 25. I'm guessing the third will also be in the 12-13 range and premiere in Summer. I'm sure the next 24/26 episode series coming from J.C Staff after Spring will be the 4th season of Slayers in I'm guessing Fall.

Sales have been very good for Shana The Second (10k avg), it is airing in probably the best nighttime slot aside from Noitamina. Shana S1 did an average of 12k, Code Geass did 44k, Darker Than Black did 7k and Shana S2 is at 10k and Macross Frontier is taking over the slot in Spring.

The manga is awfully :virgin: from the beginning chapter, so it should be fun to see that in animated form. They got an early jump with last months or this months Megami(ugh I forget since magazines in Japan get released so early anymore).

Thats what I was talking about :grin:. If the show follows the manga then it'll have tons of fanservice right out of the gate complete with a undressing main female character ready to "get it on" with the main male character right out of the gate heh.

While I know we'll have those usual romantic comedy "moments" I like the fact that at least they're forthright. That and "Bath Time" :blush:. I'm not to familiar with the light novels, just the manga, so I'd tell you more if I could aside from what I've read.

From the manga I haven't seen the other girl yet, but yeah the main one just kind of jumps all over him(not a spoiler, the trailer showed it). I'm debating on watching this since it's bound to have some "drama moments" and the last thing I need is to have myslef hooked again :susel:

Sorry to rain on the Mamiko Noto parade but she's voicing the main male character Kouta, not one of the horny animal girls :( Ayako Kawasumi (<3) is Chizuru Minamoto the main female and her silver haired rival is voiced by Miyū Takeuchi who is a newcomer going by ANN.

Also Aya if you have a spare ten minutes check out the 4-5 manga chapters available on line. If you don't like the manga I doubt you will like the show. Chapter 6 is already hinting at some things to come so it doesn't seem to be complete fluff. I tried to read the manga for every series that was getting an adaption this spring to help me with my show selection for Spring.

I really doubt this is one series where you will have to worry about the final pairing. The only series this Spring that looks like having an actual love triangle that might be hard to predict is Macross Frontier which you're watching anyway! There really is no True Tears, Kimikiss or ef in this season. Most of the rom com main pairings are obvious and does anyone on this planet believe that Lelouch won't be with C.C if he doesn't die by the end of CGR2?

I'll think about it. Although sometimes a bad manga can have a good anime and sometimes a good manga can have a bad anime. Regardless hearing it may not be complete could be a positive sign. Regardless I just feel it's a wait and see type thing. Mainly because it gave the impression of a show that will either be fun to watch on the side or one that will ultimately feel empty. If I'm lucky it will be the former.

Yeah, that's a bit of a bummer, but I guess if the girl I like doesn't "win" it will make me a bit happier with the ending. But I'm always fearful of those life goes on endings.

She's actually done voices for male characters before (Yukinari from Girls Bravo, Shinji from Full Metal Panic!), so it's actually not really "new."

Though I must agree with you in regards to Mamiko not being one of the "horny animal girls." :laugh:

In regards to the actual series, I'm probably going to check this one out. I haven't seen a romantic comedy fansubbed in quite some time, and with no romantic dramas coming out this season except for Da Capo 2 S2 (that I'm aware of at least), that'll free up a couple of slots.

& is it just me, or does anybody else get Inukami! vibes from this show?

Guilty pleasure? I think this goes beyond that, even with what I'm used to watching. It's what would happen if you put Ken Akamatsu, Yuji Shiozaki and Studio Fantasia in a room, and told them to make a show about a foxgirl.

That said, as a complete death-row-pleasure, it's enjoyable. I can't see it going too deep (well, the storyline, I can see there being plenty of other depth involved) but it will be a ride, that's for sure.

And I want to see more of the red headed identical ponytail twins. I couldn't decide if they have twintails, or a single sided-tail, regardless, they look cute.

Besides if you consider the scene there's no way the pony tail would be on the same side. Hmmm... well, Chizuru is fun though a bit shallow in character. I like the twins and the loli with the apparently bad dude. Class rep-san is annoying, the other two girls are okay. Kouta is tolerable at best but I don't like him much. He's the type of lead that just gets pushed around by everyone else and doesn't really do much.

The fanservice was okay, not obnoxious but not particularly good either. Yes, Chizuru has big boobs and she's shamelessly horny. But only one or two instances were particularly good and the rest were decent but nothing more.

The episode felt like it was trying to cram in all sorts of character introductions and hints at the story and things to come but it didn't do it very well. It also handled the jumps back and forth in time very poorly.

On the whole, it was okay and has some potential but it failed to really grab me. It's not something in danger of being dropped outright, but at this point its hardly a high priority title.

Yeah, I'm really hoping the twins play a decent sized role. I liked what little I saw of them. And I assume by "other girl" you mean the other main girl that's been mentioned before, the wolf girl? Yeah, I'm hoping she'll be a good character and I at least want to see what she's like.

Aaand we appear to have a near consensus that the moe red-haired twins need to play a large part in the show, which I can definitely get behind. I enjoyed the first episode, though I agree some of the fanservice seemed forced- but with the situations involved, much of it seemed just pretty unavoidable (and I'm not complaining...).

I get a lot of the same vibes from this as from last season's RosaVam... but (probably because I haven't read any of the source material for this unlike R+V) I enjoyed this show's first ep. a lot more. This show has the added curiosity for me of seeing just which of the cast are human and which are Yokai. Some are obvious (the wolf-girl- who I'm looking forward to showing up, though I doubt she'll be able to hold a candle to the awesomeness that was Spice & Wolf's Horo- is a given of course, the brother, and the three that were discussing the situation around the computer), some seem like they're pretty certain (the teacher that was lecturing Chizuri), and a few I'm just extrapolating out due to my own assumptions/experience/hopes- like the twins (because rarely do shows miss the chance to just stack on the moe attributes...). My bets are the class rep and the two other girls in the class who have a modest role are human, in addition to the main lead of course.

I'll definitely be following this for now, even though it necessarily has to go in the 'watch at home and not over lunch at work' pile.

I'll probably watch a bit more to see how it develops, but this level of fanservice is a tad bit creepy. It looks more watchable than To Love-Ru does though. I have a feeling when I check out the first episode of that show from that day on for the rest of my life I'll always be just a little bit dumber. :sdsmiley:

- I think Chizuru is going to engulf Kouta in her breasts. I also think this is my first time hearing Noto Mamiko in a male role, and it makes be epically sad. Good seiyuu cast so far, but arhg I need more Nono Mamiko roles that consist of more than 5 lines... but not males, damnit.
- I love the twins already.

Their review of To-Love-Ru was actually positive. The thing is, look at Chizuru's character. For basically the entire episode, she was just trying to get Kouta turned on. Except when she's blowing up her brother for interupting. So the characterization (which I don't recall yet seeing stated in such terms) isn't far off in her case. She's incredibly one dimensional so far and that dimension happens to be "get in Kouta's pants."

I just watched episode 1 and I can't say I really enjoyed it too much. I wasn't a big fan of the character designs and some of the shots just looked odd to me. And the main character looked like he was 10. I will give it a couple of episodes to see if I start enjoying it more, but I can't say it was what I was hoping for.

It's been entertaining so far based on shock value alone, but I think this show is bad for anime in general anymore. I mean, they're not even trying to have some kind of plot in this show, and the fanservice is downright creepy because it's so blatant. The whole point of fanservice is to tease and give just enough to keep you anxious for more. This is almost soft-core hentai, and when the DVDs come out with the nudity I'm sure it will possess they might as well officially call it that.

But it was amusing to see the sheer terror in human trio's eyes. And yay for the twins. We also pretty much confirm that they are some sort of spirit creature, probably some sort of rodent.

We also learn what animals the 'bad' guy and girl are (weasel and frog, respectively) and get a somewhat better idea of what they are all about. They don't like Chizuru for some reason and its probably not just because of her personality. But they obviously aren't bad people.

The spanking scene didn't bother me but the frog oil thing... if it was spit or sweat, that would have been fine or even sexy, but judging by the constipated sounds she was making...

- And almost immediately, more Kouta rape. And I don't think we've seen kitsune Chizuru since episode 1, have we?
- In a quest to find a love potion to make Kouta hers, Chizuru finds and dons a magical bunnygirl costume. Only problem is, she can't take it off, and is forced to attend classes like this. And wow, even Chizuru feels shame now.
- She makes it back to Kouta's dorm but Nozomu is hiding in the closet, and Akane, Yuuki, Kiriko, and Tayura all come crashing down from the ceiling. They won't leave Chizuru alone with Kouta if they can help it.
- And I love Akane (Saito Chiwa)'s "fuketsu desu". it's not "kinshi!" but it's in the same category. Really, while I do like the three leads, the best thing about Kanokon is the rest of the class. Akane, Yuuko, Kiriko, and the twins are completely awesome. And, NEEDS MORE FROG GIRL.
- Haha oh god. The bunnysuit saps your life force. Chizuru ends up in the nurses office, and when Akane tries to cut off the suit, suddenly she gets transformed into a nurse. Then she is forced onto a desk by some power and made to spread her legs o_O
- The power sends Chizuru floating around, and Yuuki and Kiriko get transformed into a policewoman costume and YAY SIDEBOOB MIKO respectively.

After transforming half the school (and many of them winding up naked), they bypass the clothes by having Chizuru possess Kouta. Then they spirit bomb the dress and on we go.

Maid Nozomu = win. But I am HORRIBLY disappointed we didn't get to see the twins in anything.

But they even beat out ZnT by adding laughable BGM music to go with the underwhelming super energy blast.

- Heh, Chizuru is falling apart. Not being able to rape Kouta sucks the life out of her. "Hey why don't you try eating something?" "I'll eat if it tastes like Kouta." XD
- Dun dun dunnnnn, draaama! Or something like it. Here's hoping the show doesn't succumb to the delusion that anyone gives a shit about what they'll try to pass off as "plot".
- So Tayura asks weasel guy and frog girl for help. I can see why the former, but what the hell is frog girl going to do? :sd:
- Fighting, Saku beats the shit out of them, etc. Somehow, Chizuru getting beat up results in her being completely naked except her panties :sd: I want to see Nozomu transform and beat her brother's ass.
- Uh, Saku gave up pretty easily there. After pummeling everyone mercilessly, he withdrawals with a smile after one hit from Koutazuru. :sd:
- And so it was all a setup, a job Saku had been asked to do to confirm if the Koutazuru power was for real. Looks like we have two new characters coming into the mix.

Yeah it was a mediocre episode but not all that terrible. I just want more twins, Akane, Yuuko, Kiriko, Nozomu and frog girl. The secondary cast is definitely superior in this series.

- So, Chizuru is actually a good cook. When she had him taste it, I assumed it would be the old "terrible cook" routine. This episode as a whole is really calm... well as calm as this show can get. Also, naked Nozomu.
- Chizuru brings out a dice game, and says if you don't do what it tells you on the spot you land on, demons will come for you :sd:
- "...Ah. I didn't wear a school swimsuit." Bwahahhhah. Nozomu is so much win.

- Oh, Mio was the frog girl's name. GIVE ME MORE MIO! She's clearly getting paired up with weasel boy though, and he's astoundingly boring.

That didn't quite go anywhere, but that's fine. I liked it better than 5. Chizuru and Kouta are still pretty hit or miss though. Most of the characters around them really carry the show.

Moon Phase is reporting tonight that following episode seven, TV anime Kanokon will cease free distribution via online broadcasters GyaO and BIGLOBE. The reason given for the move is “ethical regulations”, which appear to have kicked in following the repeated depiction of racy visuals such as bare breasts, implied handjobs, flashes of nipple exposure, and etc. Apparently a particularly memorable scene occurs in episode eight that the free broadcasters weren’t willing to test against government regulation, so from now on online viewing options will be restricted to paid only. Well I checked out episode 8, even though it was raw, just to see what the big deal was. And I have to say, it wasn't that big. Certainly nothing to compare to the spanking orgasm in episode 3. At least, not in my opinion, your mileage may vary. Chizuru, Nozomu, and Chizuru's Mom all spend a LENGTHY time nude in the episode and in the cases of all except Nozomu there is a lot of bouncing going on. But I actually thought it was a fairly tame episode, of course that might change when I know what it was they were saying. You know, I really want this series to come to the US. I want some dvds. Have to start looking for art books or figures or someshit to buy.

Kouta is passed the age of censent so its not pedophilia (in Japan). Also, Chizuru's Mom was clearly just teasing him.

- ...Oh wow, Chizuru. That's an interesting outfit, or lack thereof. Not a bad way to start an episode. Also, new character.
- They really did want to make a hentai instead. Her boobs just have heart shaped stickers over the nipples, but beside that they aren't trying to hide it at all. Why didn't they just get on a station that allowed that? Heh.
- The new girl is Yukihana, sent by Chizuru's mother to investigate the rumors about Chizuru being obsessed with a human. Chizuru isn't happy to see her.

- So at the end of 7, Yukihana left after confirming Chizuru and Kouta's bond, telling Chizuru to bring Kouta to meet Chizuru's mother. Turns out it's an onsen, and everyone else comes along too, except the twins. Onsen episode in this show ought to be awesome.
- Looks like we'll meet two other characters from the OP we haven't seen yet.
- Also, Chizuru's mom is niiiiiiiiiiiice. I was actually wondering to myself why we've seen blond kitsune Chizuru so infrequently, but here we get not just that, but nine-tails Chizuru's mom.
- Nice as that is though, we better get some Akane, Kiriko and Yuuki too.
- Bastards. BASTARDS! So Chizuru's mom gets all the humans drunk on love potion. Yuuki and Kiriko stare at each other, blushing, talking about how cute the other is. Yuuki says "Shall we do it?" and then... they just feed each other food. DONT TEASE LIKE THAT!
- Akane falls in love too... with the booze.
- Chizuru gets all emo because Kouta wants to be with Nozomu. She KNOWS it's just the love potion, so why all the angst? Yeesh. This time could be spent on much more important things, like Yuuki and Kiriko doing each other. Damnit.
- Oh god all this Chizuru melodrama is one big "WHO GIVES A SHIT?" as far as I'm concerned.
- Gah, the night ends with no more from the secondary cast. Damnit, HUGE wasted potential.

Oh, and at some point the younger girl of the new pair seemed to indicate... she's Kouta's little sister? I dunno.

- More Kouta rape, but the two new characters from last time look like they're about to step into the show for real.
- And yeah, she definitely calls him her big brother. Her name is Minori (no name on her partner yet).
- Twins! Their names are Nanao Ren and Nanao Ai (did we get that before?), and they're ninja, and they attack with chains and they're AWESOME. But they also fail a lot.
- Minori's partner is her bodyguard Nue. And I guess she doesn't really mean "brother" by blood because she calls Ren and Ai her big sisters too. She's contracting the twins to take out Chizuru.
- And try they do, though not successfully. They switch to an indirect approach with some sort of drug.
- Haha, the twins thought the drug would seal her powers. Instead they made her breasts vanish.
- :sd: This is awkward. Heh, lots of angst and drama over disappearing boobs. Chizuru wants to hang herself.
- So the boob recovery plan begins. Even Tayura and Nozomu are serious about helping Chizuru.
- AHAHA. "If you don't have any bread, then eat cake."
- Wow. Just... wow. I don't even know where to begin with this "cake" scene. Just... WOW. Best part: "Don't you feel tingly down there?" WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.

Oh and Minori is planning to level the school and take Kouta away.

- Boob Crusader Kouta!
- The twins aren't very good with explosives but damn am I glad to be getting so much of them <3
- Man I know it's just her shtick, but that was pretty damn bitchy not to thank Tayura, even as part of a joke.
- The twins begin to doubt Minori. Is Chizuru really an evil demon? They see her doing her best to get her breasts back, and start to feel bad.
- Moreso when she invites them along to a meal and says it's her treat. The poor twins haven't seen much more than bread crusts in years.
- They go back and ask to be excused from the mission. Minori has Nue beat the crap out of them. Then she launches her assault at the school, with a legion of youkai. Seems there's some number more spirits at the school than we've met so far, but Nue wrecks them all.
- Hahah, Kouta and Chizuru get attacked, and as they get all emotional and hug and stuff, Nue approaches from behind. Except for about 10 seconds she's animated just walking in place, not advancing one bit. :sd:
- Lol, then Kouta and Chizuru fusion (5 tailed Kouta kitsune this time), Nue gets smacked around, and then one blast of energy wipes out all the youkai and Minori and Nue withdraw. Minori comments that Kouta has "awakened", so he's obviously a spirit of some sort too.
- And within about a minute, Chizuru is all "Enough of that plot stuff, GET IN MAH CLEAVAGE!"

So I guess the next two eps will see more Minori. I mean, they wouldn't just leave that hanging... right? :sd:

- Off to a private always-summer beach. Thankfully, Akane, Yuuki and Kiriko also come along.
- Underwear! Then swimsuits! Yay. Nozomu, however... well I'd already seen fanart, but hahaha.
- Akane's bikini is nice (love the ruffly ones). Chizuru's as well. Yuuki's is the expected "I'm sorta a tomboy" swimsuit but it looks alright, and Kiriko pulls onepiece duty but it's not bad.
- Haha, and who has a beachside store set up but Chizuru's mom. She's looking good, but I actually like the look way more on Yukihana <3
- The usual ecchi beach scenes follow (mostly involving suntan lotion) and all that.
- Tayura's big break? Maybe. Akane is buffeted around by waves and unable to swim back to shore, but Tayura rushes out without hesitation and saves her. They hit things off a little, but odds ate 5 to 1 in favor of him getting slapped and nothing really happening by the end.
- Hahaha, Nozomu chasing everyone around with the sparklercrackerthingie XD

And then, when Chizuru finally gets Kouta alone, she asks him straight up how he feels about her.

I predict the last episode will be KoutaraepOVERDRIVE. I also think I'll be remarkably unsurprised if they don't do a damn thing with Minori :sd:

I finished watching the series. It was a fun ride. There were alot of classic lines, like "If don't have any bread, then eat cake." This show definitely took things over the edge and border lining it for TV ratings. I would like a second season to explain the "sister" and just more of Chizuru's mom!

Its also quite sad how they made the twins, poor ninjas, sooo sad... Funny how they started to call Chizuru "mom" at the end. ALso great to know they added something this type of show needed, NIPPLES!! to the DVDs.

I don't know what was shown during "broadcast", but the only nipples I saw "in episode" on DVD v1 were Nozomu's in eps. 2 during a bathing scene (middle pic in 1rst group at the Earlbox link). The 2nd and 3rd groups of images are from two short extras on the disc.

- Heh, so Chizuru is trying to get Kouta to make his decision once and for all - how does he really feel about he?
- Twin panties. Funky hair. And Akane agrees to go on a date with Tayura.
- Chizuru thinks Kouta is hesitant to give her an answer because he's playing hard to get. So she tries to meet with him outside the school grounds, but...
- "Mama. Is it okay if we call you mama?" BEST SCENE OF THE SHOW! Oh god I love the twins. I also liked the "...WUT" face Chizuru had. Bwahahahaa.
- Heh, Kouta practices how to confess to Chizuru. "Hazukashii~~"
- What the hell is Tayura doing? Heh, poor Akane.
- And halfway through the last episode it occurs to Chizuru, in listing to Kiriko, Akane and Yuuki's conversation, that maybe not being so persistent and aggressive is a good idea. :sd:
- She tries it and Kouta doesn't know how to react. It's like he's thinking "What? I'm not being raped?" He realizes it's not so bad at all though.
- Except Chizuru is confused when it doesn't result in an answer immediately and the next day goes back to rape. But this time Kouta actually says no. And not just "No-but let me burrow in your cleavage more first."
- Unfortunately he misses his chance to say what he wants to say... again. Chizuru finally runs away.

But in the end, he realizes what he needs to do, and he does it on the bridge in the middle of a sunshower. And, heck, it's a pretty darn nicely done scene! Cute and sweet. The ED plays over a few scenes of the rest of the cast, and then it's Kouta and Chizuru alone. Nozomu comes in and acknowledges Chizuru as Kouta's lover. But...

"I know. You're his lover. And so I'm his mistress." And... Chizuru is fine with that. Bwahaha, canon threesome!

Ah, what to say about this show overall? Oh it wasn't really all that good, but I stayed entertained. The fanservice was often overdone, but it had moments of brilliance (or at least WTFness) as well - Delicious cake. You must lick it.. The plot was nonexistent, the final "villain" really served no purpose and came to no closure, and the leads annoyed me more often than not. On the other hand, they did have some good moments, Nozomu was fun, and the side cast was awesome. Twins, Kiriko, Yuuki, Akane, hell yes.

Nothing I'll ever rewatch, but I don't regret the time I spent on it. And that's good enough for fluff.

Heh, yeah. Akane didn't grab me at first, and looking back I didn't mention her until episode 4. But then she wasn't doing much early on. As she got more screentime (still not nearly enough) I came to like her more and more, until by the end where she was one of my favorites.
