I'd normally go for Gundam, but have heard AC4 is equally as good. Can only afford 1. Which is best?

Depends how much of a hardcore mech nut you are. I had AC4 but it's very hardcore and in-depth. Definitely not something you can just jump into. Having said that, the series does have its fans, so I guess the appeal is there if you put the time into it.

Gundam Musou is awesome. Pure pick-up-and-play gameplay and even for someone like myself who enjoys Gundam but isn't fanatical, it's great seeing them all in the one place. The Japanese version should be dirt cheap if that's the one you're going for (which I reckon it probably will be, given your VA preference ;) ).

It is.

It all boils down to if you want to play Dynasty Warriors with Gundams, because that's all that it is - hours and hours of hacking and slashing, with some Gundam fanservice thrown in. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing the game, but IMO, it's best played in short bursts.

I'd personally go for Armored Core 4. Gundam musou was a insult to the Musou fans. Dynasty Warriors 6 is a much, much better musou game.

Don't bother with either of 'em - get Another Century's Episode 2 instead. :)

Seriously though, I'd agree with Johnny - AC 4 is really all about the mech customisation rather than just getting in there and blowing stuff up. You can do that, but how well you do (or last) depends on what gear you've kitted out your mech with. That's where much of the game's appeal lies for some. Building your own personal death machine, that sort of thing.
Now Gundam Musou is a straightforward hack & slasher - it's all about getting straight in there and cutting vast armies into shreds of metal. It's bucketloads of fun, but it can get a little repetitive at times. Plus there's the hassle of going through a whole mission again if you slip up somewhere or one of your team gets killed. It's not a major problem, but it can get frustrating. Especially if you've wasted close to a thousand enemies, beaten all but one of the ace pilots and your partner gets totalled because he got in over his head.
At any rate, I'd say Gundam Musou would be the one to go for, mainly as it's easier to get into than Armored Core 4. Both are great games though.

(and while I was joking at the start, I do recommend picking up any of the ACE games if you can. They're excellent)

I'd love it if the ACE games were brought over, to many licensing issues. I was all set to buy Musou now that I have a 360 but theres no Tallgeese :susel:

Gundam musou was a insult to the Musou fans.

I would agree that it was easily the worst of the musou games, but I found it very enjoyable on another level since it had the best gameplay of any of the Gundam games that I had ever played. That alone was enough to make it a good experience. I happily completed the game as every character.

Well I own the Xbox 360 version of Armored Cored 4, and I think that it was an alright game. But first let's get one thing straight: the game is horribly unbalanced. Yes, you can build your own 5-story death machine. Yes, you can outfit it with enough firepower to start a war. Yes, the shoulder-mounted sniper rifle looks pretty bad ass when you switch between it and your primary weapons.

But the down side? All of that is pretty unimportant when you consider the fact that laser weapons, which are expensive, completely blow away every other weapon. Seriously, even on hard mode you can kill most enemy aces w/ just 3-4 shots from a heavy laser canon. Also, the missions are only so-so (don't let the trailer fool you), and the controls take *a lot* of getting used to.

One of the things I really hated is that in order to switch between auto lock-on and manual, you have to press the left thumb stick, which sucks because you'll often find yourself accidentally switching between the two when your boosting around the stage while trying to avoid enemy fire.

I think that if it's just pure fun factor, then Gundam Musou is probably a better bet. At least it won't have you cursing at the game because of the crappy control.
