View Full Version : Gundam Seed Destiny Special Edition question.

With Final Plus on its way to release and soon after the 4 Special Editions afterwards. I'm really am questioning if Final Plus is no different from the Special Edition versions. In other words, is getting the Special Edition versions of Gundam Seed Destiny the same as getting Final Plus only with more new scenes. I just don't want to risk getting the same thing all over again.

GSD: Final Plus (OVA) = Episode 50 extended (50 minutes long)
Gundam Seed Destiny SE = Four 90 minute movies
They are two different things. One (Final Plus) is an extension of the series and the other (Special Edition) is a compilation of the series.
BTW, my copy of Final Plus shipped out on Monday. I should receive it this Friday.

I viewed alittle of Special Edition on youtube today, well actually the ending and its the same thing Final Plus offers which also goes about a couple seconds deeper then Final Plus. The final battle is what I'm curious about though. The scenes after the final battle are apparently carried over to Special Edition from what I saw.

I've not seen Final Plus, though I do own the R2J releases of all four Special Editions, and have had the Final Plus changes and additions described to me by someone who has seen it. I'm told that much of the changes and additions made to episode 50 in order to create Final Plus were also included in the applicable places in the fourth Special Edition (certain changed or modified scenes, the extended "after the battle" ending, etc.).
Given the prevailing negative opinion about compilations, I'd say just go ahead and buy Final Plus and not worry about the Special Editions too much, unless you're that much of a Gundam Seed fan that you want to have every incarnation. I myself have the opposite problem, in that I don't really care for the Seed universe, but I always find compilations to be interesting (though obviously not always successful), so Final Plus isn't anywhere near the top of my list of things to buy.

Thanks for the help you two, I think I'm just gonna go with the special editions. Although I love SEED, DESTINY isn't something that needs to be completed entirely.

I watched my copy of Destiny Final Plus and was completely underwhelmed by the what it had to offer. I thought it was going to be an "alternate" version of episode 50, but it is only and expanded version. I am also surprised that it was only the length of two episodes. I was hoping that Bandai would include some extras like the SD Seed specials, but was disappointed that the only extras were the commercial slates. I think they should have included this special as part of the standard release and bumped two of the Destiny DVDs up to 5 episodes. Either that or charge less than $25 for this bonus DVD which lacks bonuses.
