Misuzu automatically will get some love, but I'll have to think about the other one.

My votes went to the Count and Honya-chan, who did a fabulous job for the Purple Knights last year.
Please show your support for the character from the 2005 DVD of the Year and vote for the Count. You don't want him to exact his brand of vengence on you! :>

Let's see who I know first...
Yukino
Vash
Seras
Rebecca
Rei
Honya-chan
Misuzu
Lucy
Lain
Kyo
Kintaro
Kenji
The Count
Vash gets my first vote, so he's gone.
After narrowing down the choices due to seeing only a few episodes of their respective series or not having a particular affinity, I come to the following two characters:
Kenji
Nodoka
This is kind of tough.
In the end, as much as I like Kenji, I feel compelled to vote for Nodoka. I blame her cuteness and Mamiko Noto. :notworthy:

Traitor ;) How could you not vote for Ahiru? If we had both voted for her, she would have come third, and TnAdct would be also third.
This is one of the rounds that really worries me. Yukino looks fragile. If she comes in the top 5, I will be happy.
Ah, I think Jurika wants a word with me. Excuse me...
Everyone, please vote for Yukino Miyazawa! We greatly appreciate all the help you can give her!

Top 5:
Yukino Miyazawa (KareKano)
Teletha Testarossa (FMP)
Misuzu Kamio (Air)
Lain Iwakura (SE:Lain)
Kenji Harima (School Rumble)
My shortlist is my top 5 this time, because this is a much easier round.
Top 3:
Yukino Miyazawa (KareKano)
Teletha Testarossa (FMP)
Misuzu Kamio (Air)
And the vote went to Tessa and Misuzu. Next round looks like it'll be tougher.

Honestly this is a rather weak round for me. A mixture of characters I'm unfamiliar with and don't care for. Plus some of the ones I'm familiar with come from shows I lost interest in. So even though I may like the character that makes it hard to justify a vote.
Thus because of that my logical choice is Lina Inverse (Slayers) as she's a classic character for me and Misuzu Kamio (Air) as she does make you feel for her sometimes. Plus it's like an honorary vote for another character in Air. Still in general the two lacked competition. Regardless a vote is a vote.

My first vote was obvious, but I would have voted for her even if I hadn't drafted her. Nodoka Miyazaki!
My second vote was harder, and was between Ryo, Tessa, Yukino, Lina, and the eventual vote-getter, Sae Sawanaguchi!

I have seen "His & Her Circumstances".
I know that it is KareKano.
I just didn't want to vote for Yukino, since there were better choices in my opinion.
I think you're overestimating the character popularity of the series, which is mainly good not because of the characters, but because of the way they interact with each other.
Laputa
04-02-2008, 12:04 PM
I'm not trying to overestimate or estimate the popularity of KareKano. I'm just trying to gauge how many people bought the R1 DVDs, saw the dub, and walked away not knowing that KareKano is the Japanese name for His & Her Circumstances.
Call it feedback research, if you like, for the next draft. It's mostly for dunno, since he makes the polls. KareKano is the only Japanese name for a series listed, apart from Gankutsuo, but it's obvious what that series is since 'Count of Monte Cristo' is written next to it.
I just didn't want to vote for Yukino, since there were better choices in my opinion.
I'm quite happy with that. There wouldn't be any point to the draft if people didn't vote for who they liked the most. My point is that some people might not know that Yukino of KareKano is Yukino of His & Her Circumstances.
Let me give another example. If dunno was to list Sana Kurata as being from 'Kodomo no Omocha', many people, including myself, would expect her to come at the bottom of her round. This is because Kodocha is marketed and sold in the English-speaking world as 'Kodocha', not 'Kodomo no Omocha'. Most voters would look at 'Kodomo no Omocha' and wonder "What series is that? Never heard of it."

Quick question for those who have seen 'His and Her Circumstances': do you not know that KareKano is His and Her Circumstances?
I doubt that's holding anyone back. It's pretty universally known that they're the same thing. I only passed on Yukino in favor of Misuzu because I feel like new characters need extra help in the draft given the way the sidebar poll changes the dynamic. I'm all for new blood, and I'm pretty sure I've already voted for Yukino in previous drafts. That's the same thing holding Lain back for me, despite her being at one time (though not in the past few years) my favorite anime character in my once favorite show.

I knew, though I'm only aware of the series through reading the manga. In fact, I had only begun reading it at my school library two weeks prior to the beginning of the draft. =/
Though I wasn't really aware until only about four months ago. So I guess I can see why you'd ask.

Any undecided voters who aren't intending to vote for Misuzu, I have two words (okay, one's more of a sound): gao and GOAL. If that isn't enough to convince you, then clearly you're completely heartless (or haven't seen Air).
My second vote this round went to Lucy from Elfen Lied because of her rare but awesome combination of ultra violence and intense moe.

Yukino Miyazawa (a fantastic character)

So in other words, I shouldn't update things after adding inventory? I added a large stack of manga to my database, and with some volumes on KareKano in there (plus my calling the series that since I was in college), that name is what I put in. I can tell you that Arima in round 9 has the same series name in my database right now.

I actually have to agree with this. With round 3 ending tonight, I'm leaving it as-is. However, what MUST be decided by Monday (since the poll closes Tuesday) is if we want to leave round 4 at the old forums, or void it out, and restart it over here? Post opinions now, as the decision will be made before that poll's results are revealed. I personally side with leaving it stand. (I'll add a link to the root post in a bit for that.)

I personally don't have a problem with collecting PM votes, but I remember, was it 2 years ago, that we did have a PM option, and whoo boy, was there a stink about it. Unfortunately, I've also said that I'm sticking by my rules page, which has this clause in it:
Voting will be done exclusively through the forum polls.

Either way, I want to get the clearance to do this before I go ahead and do it. I think Chris plans on keeping them open for another week or 2 for people to get things they need out of their PT boxes and whatnot. Ideally, I'd like to keep them open for a week also (as is stipulated in the rules), but if it needs to be less for a complete closing, then it would fall under an "act of god" and thus negate that clause.

Personally I think having the polls at the old Fusion forums will result in a vastly reduced number of votes, as I suspect very few people are checking there now. I suspect we'd lose all the casual voters who won't be bothered to follow links from threads here back to Fusion.
I'd prefer to wait a few weeks if necessary in the hope that we can come up with a better solution.

If your using the "act of god" clause then you might as well go to PM voting or simply postphone a few weeks. I seriously doubt we would get any votes for the new threads except a few that follow this thread. I would predict maybe 40 total if were luckly. The year we did use PM voting saw much fewer than 40 votes per poll. IIRC, the actual polls had an estimated total voters about about 40. However, given the actual downsides to the polls as they are now is, well... about unacceptable, I'd not be averse to postponing it for a few weeks. I did see there was a hide votes hack over at the VB boards, but that still doesn't allow for only allowing 2 votes. I guess it could be set up to allow multiple votes...? (Although I don't really care for that either...)

The "40" votes I predicted would tranlate into 20 voters and I was being optimistic about it, but I also think PM voting would be just as bad. Never liked PM voting as it just seemed so exclusive and non functional for a game like this.

There are really only two realistic options for the polls round five onwards, since blind polling is now back:
Allow users to only choose one of twenty
Allow users to choose as many as they like
Personally, I'm in favour of option 2, since it will show which ones are more popular. Yes it will open the polls to more ties, and difference in number of votes per voter, it'll more accuratly show the characters that are liked.

I suppose since it seems the creator can see who voted for what, you could designate a limit and say anyone who has voted for more than the limit has their vote disqualified. That would make things really complicated, though. :p
I would go with option 2 as well. I don't see it as too big of a problem that the choices would be unlimited (I sure hope there's a way to bring the option to limit number of choices back at some point)

"Blind Voting" is not bad, it's good.
The basic poll is voted in, and you immediatly see the running total, however the blind poll hides the running total until the poll has ended, as to make it more exciting, and less tampered with.

Hmm reading this it seems there is a problem.
I'd be happy to wait a few weeks till the polls are in a format that can be used or if another method is thought up I'd pass my thoughts on that.
I dont think having all the polls on the old forum would be a good choice, as has been said by others, I dont think we would get nowhere near as many votes. It would be pretty much just the coaches and one or two others.
Whatever everyone decides to do though I'd be fine with after all it is only a bit of fun.

Not only that, but Chris B. mentioned that he wants to shut down the FusionBB forum within the next week. So that's not going to be an option anyway.

Tough, but I ultimately went with Miyazawa Yukino and Chiyo no Chichi, because they've made me laugh more than the rest. There's a certain kind of fondness there that they inspire.

I'd be happy to wait a few weeks till the polls are in a format that can be used or if another method is thought up I'd pass my thoughts on that.
I'm fine with postponing for a few weeks as well.

After some of the progress that has been made here on the new board, I'm willing to hold off on any more voting rounds for a while and get things working right over here. ;)

Pardon my ignorance, but what's "blind voting," and what's so bad with it?
"Blind Voting" is not bad, it's good.
The basic poll is voted in, and you immediately see the running total, however the blind poll hides the running total until the poll has ended, as to make it more exciting, and less tampered with.
Oh, I see. :shy: I got the impression that it was actually a bad thing.
And on another note, I'm also fine with the voting being delayed for a while.

While complicated, that is something I could do, tracking people's votes through that. It'd not be that I care who you voted for, but more an enforcement of the 2 characters per person. (It is a clause stated in the rules; I'm so going to be wanting to overhaul that this year for next...) I will also say that I will not go back down to 1, adding in a second vote was to allow people who were playing to vote for a character that wasn't on their team in addition to their own. If people agree to all of this, I think I can start them back up sometime this week. Sound good to people?

Kintaro did pretty bad (5 points).
And Laputa's lead over everyone still increased by another .5 points with Yukino finishing third. The lead was 5 points after round 2, and even with a sixth-place finish in round 3, that lead increased to 7 points. After round 4, Laputa leads the next person (this round's champion - Foxfossil) by 7.5 points

Yeah, Honya-chan dropped this year from last season where she ended up tied for 7th when I drafted her in the first round. I guess Negima's popularity is starting to wain a little bit.
On the other hand, I'm very surprised as how well The Count did. I was afraid that he would tank in this round much like how Aoba tanked in the fouth round for me last year, but I'll take a tie for 11th over last place anytime. Thank you all that voted for The Count.:)
