The other box for Burst Angel looked much better imo.

That's one of my favorite images from the series, but I still like the original box better!

Yellow... Not bad at all. Still, not a show I'm going to get.

It's been confirmed that this is a thinpak set here: http://www.animecornerstore.com/storeupdates.html (On the latest update).

I'm glad that Funi decided to improve the Viridian sets. Thinpaks are way better than thin cardboard.

If true, I wonder what FUNimation decided to use to replace the plastic material for the thinpak? The purpose of the Viridian set is that they are supposed to be environmentally friendly.

If this truly will be a thinpak box instead of those god awful cardboard nightmares (yoink ^o^) then I will surely get it since the OVA is included.

This'll break my anime slump if it's indeed a thinpak. Of course I'll let someone buy it first ;)

I hope this trend will continue to the likes of "Origin". Funimation should have the courtesy to - now they have admitted their Viridian 'everything made of cheap card' design was faulty and undesirable - to make a 'proper' version available of these products. ESPECIALLY with the mis-advertisement that the special edition of Origin was indeed going to be "special", assuming special would be included with the package design and not just the extras.

Maybe the money a company gets from being "green" isn't enough, in this case, to warrant the (possible) lack of sales due to insufficient product quality, so now they're going back to what the fans want : ). Not that it's a green issue, but maybe they'll release Shin-chan with the Japanese audio eventually!

EDIT: Even more off-topic. Just out of interest, how do you get hold of these pictures, WTK? I'm guessing contacts within the industry who send you their designs, your name isn't coloured so that you're an industry representitive either, but maybe you're working in retail somewhere? I can't believe I didn't ask this sooner.

It's one helluva excuse if you think about it . The only thing thats kept me from picking up some of these value priced sets is that awful, awful packaging. So any positive changes and I'm on board.

A removal of the "Viridian" label would be appreciated as well. Like, seriously, even though these releases are massively cheap and priced down re-issues of something that came out a long time ago... does that really warrant the plastering of "you've just bought an extra cheap version of this product, which lacks in everything but the content and a few pretty pictures". That's going too far, and a lot of people are only interested in the content, but for people who have no access to the original version, then it's not a particularly nice thing to have the likes of "Anime Legends" or "Viridian collection" plastered all over your precious box. Of course this is all from a collectors point of view I guess.

It'd just be nice if more companies followed the ADV thinpak model (and using the original discs, unless they're correcting an older error from the initial release). ADV's Japan-standard chipboard cases are to die for. Seriously. The price isn't a put off either, even though it may be $10-20 more than other cheap collections. An ADV thinpak is something I'm proud to own.

From a buyers point of view the Viridian and Anime Legends are very important. It keeps buyers like myself from re-buying stuff and signals that this is a re-release at a hopefully lower price. If you are really into box art collecting there's a good chance you wouldn't even want to buy these collections because most anime comes out with its best boxes for the original release, not for lower price re-releases.

I just got this in the mail today. It really is a thinpak box with normal plastic cases even on the inside. It comes with a flimsy box, which is to be expected, that holds 4 plastic thinpak cases. The first three hold two discs each with each disc on separate sides of the case. The fourth one is a normal thinpak with the OVA. No cardboard nightmares on this one although I will admit that they didn't bother me all that much.

Wow! I was really doubting the thinpak, but thanks for confirming! It might be the first viridian boxset i purchase.

So cheap, nice cover plus the OVA! Considering this isn't a show i'm hugely interested in, this would be perfect.

You say the box is flimsy...how flimsy? I guess it's just like the one for Aquarion?

I think it's a shame Funimation can't just go that little bit extra and make their thinpak boxes chipboard, like ADV's thinpaks... If ADV can do it and do it for amazing prices, then there's no reason Funimation can't... they just seem to be cheaping out on packaging.

I don't have Aquarion, but it looks about the same as that I guess. It is similar to the Fullmetal Alchemist Boxes only possibly a little bit more flimsy. It's not as bad as something like the UY boxes though.

Perhaps, but at least Funimation doesn't tinker with the extras and such. I'd rather have a flimsier box and the extras than a nicer box with no extras.

ADV seem to have learned their lesson on that aspect now, though.

And they've done plenty of boxes with all the extras. Funimation don't need to take out extras... you say it as if Funimation were to do a chipboard box then they'd have to take the extras out just because ADV do.

Not at all. The point was that in the grand scheme of things I'd rather have it done Funi's way than ADV's way. Obviously it is not an either or equation for extras/box and having both the extras and a nice box would be preferable.

Ah it all becomes clear now. As for me, I would prefer ADV's style up until they started removing extras and re-authoring the discs, then it's borderline for the rest depending on what the extras were, but now ADV have apparently started putting back extras I'm back in the ADV camp. I just melt when a thick chipboard box is part of the product, what is it about chipboard with artwork on it!?

Yeah, it's sort of like punishing the buyer for waiting for the collection. It's like they're saying, "You want a collection. Here it is, crappy packaging and bargain logo to boot. Hahahahaha!".

I'm not sure why people would rather have them punish the people who supported the initial singles by giving the people who waited a nicer package for far less money. It comes down to you get what you pay for.

I just bought one today for $29.80 at Best Buy. Setbox is just similar to Lupin the 3rd movie pack Part 1 + 2 thinpak. I like new panty than old geezer!

Doesn't look nearly as flimsy as some I've seen. Some of ADV and Bandai's art boxes are much worse.

And hey, it's cheap for a reason. They can't spend more money making it than they charge you to buy it.

The $29.80 price was apparently a mistake, as the box set has been restickered at $10 more at at least one Best Buy store near me.
