Anyone know if this will get the usual ADV-thinpak treatment and get stripped of all the extras?

Recently ADV has kept all their extras in their thinpaks. They haven't stripped any extras in a while.

And not all of the complete collections are thinpaks as well. Princess Tutu, Ghost Stories, Michel,...are some of the recent examples.

So, they basically took the main pictures from the singles and worked it into a single cover.

It works, but I already have the singles.

Not to mention the other collections that have kept their extras are re-releases like Blue Seed, Nadesico and Sorcerer Hunters.

Finally, a collection for this series! I hope it keeps the extras or the singles get cheap soon.

As for the cover, it's pretty nice. It does look a bit tossed together, though.

That isn't the only mistake, they also list it as 4 discs, if that was true that would mean NDB would be on MORE discs in the collection then in the singles.

edit- odd...amazon has it listed as 4 also

Maybe it's not a mis-price. I've seen crazier price downs, and this might be the initial pricing, then it will go up $5-$10 after the first week or so.

$21.99 is BB's usual price for ADV individual volumes. Individual volumes with artbox usually go for $29.99. 52% off the retail price is not the norm for anime @ BB.

ADV did throw a Previews Only DVD with some of their thinpaks recently. It's packaged in a paper sleeve but still is a DVD. I have it with the Blue Seed latest rigid thinpak and Shadow Skill thinpak. I guess that would be the 4th dvd if there is one, though it's quite unfair to count it...

That tends to happen to me as well. I start up thinking of singles and end up getting a collection in the end since I put it back too much.

When did ADV say that? To my knowledge, they have never announced that all complete collection releases will have all of the extras intact.

Well I had the distinct impression (from reading multiple opinions over the past months) that ADV had realised that it wasn't the best thing to do on their part to remove the extras and from that point onwards they would stop doing it. I'm sure I'm not hallucinating, so maybe I read a lot of speculation presented as fact. Just to note that I never actually read an ADV rep saying that, or read it on any place official. I'm probably just straight down the line - wrong.

ADV has been getting better in terms of keeping the extras intact with their complete collections. There doesn't appear to be a regular pattern of which series that they keep the extras. I had posted this (http://www.animeondvd.com/aodvb/showpost.php?p=1298441&postcount=30) back in late April.

These are the complete collections that I can come up with that has the extras intact from the original discs. I didn't include the old, thick brick collections that are mostly OOP.

Here are collections with the original release dates. They are thinpak releases only if they are indicated.

Devil Hunter Yohko (Thinpak) - 02/08/2005
Blue Seed (Thinpak) - 02/15/2005
Full Metal Panic! (Thinpak - 1st Release) - 04/19/2005
RahXephon (Thinpak) - 05/17/2005
Noir (Thinpak - 1st Release) - 06/14/2005
Rune Soldier (Thinpak) - 09/13/2005
Gantz: Season 1 (Thinpak) - 02/21/2006
Gantz: Season 2 (Thinpak) - 07/04/2006
Blue Seed Mitama (Thinpak with OVA) - 10/16/2007
Slayers OVA - 10/23/2007
Gantz Perfect Score - 11/06/2007
Shadow Skill (Thinpak) - 11/13/2007
Princess Tutu - 11/20/2007
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi Perfect (Tin case with thinpaks) - 11/27/2007
Nadia, Secret of Blue Water Perfect (Tin case with thinpaks) - 11/27/2007
Neon Genesis Evangelion Perfect (Tin case with thinpaks) - 11/27/2007
MegaZone 23 (fiited inside a regular DVD-sized case) - 12/11/2007
Sorcerer Hunters (Thinpak with OVA) - 12/18/2007
Jinki: Extend (Thinpak) - 01/01/2008
Martian Successor Nadesico Perfect (Thinpak) - 01/01/2008
Ghost Stories - 01/08/2008
Comic Party Revolution (Thinpak) - 01/22/2008
Michel - 02/26/2008
Full Metal Panic! (Thinpak - 2nd Release with different cover arts) - 06/03/2008
Noir (Thinpak - 2nd Release with different cover arts) - 06/17/2008

Here are the upcoming collections that we don't know if they will contain the extras or not:
Nerima Daikon Brothers (Thinpak) - 05/27/2008 >>> No Extras!
Coyote Ragtime Show (Thinpak) - 06/03/2008
Moeyo Ken (TV) (Thinpak) - 06/10/2008

The listings are very helpful, thanks a lot for putting them together (I've used them a lot : p).

So it's random then, how they choose whether or not to put extras. I wonder what the deciding factor is. Probably something we're never going to know, and it doesn't really matter that much, as long as they don't cut out IMPORTANT things like in the Azumanga set and Chrono Crusade (not sure if any other series have bits and bobs that are real parts of the story not included/just fun things that it would be a shame to lose). I guess we can always hope the Azumanga set will go against what was already stated, and replace back that movie that was taken out.

Keeping the extras I believe has to do with the fact of reauthoring. If it was initially a six disc single release and the new thinpak has only five you can bet your ass that it will not have the extras. But then there are other shows that had the same amount of discs as singles (wedding peach) and that had the extras stripped as well.

Maybe it'll also have to do with how many singles they got shipped back from B&M stores of unsold stock. If the show bombed and they have hundreds of those, I'm sure that it wouldn't be a bad idea to just repackage those in the collections instead of having to reauthor and go to extra costs.

But then, this is ADV. They may just do it because they want to and just use a dartboard to see what titles will be extraless and such.
