View Full Version : If Lucky Star was real...

A friend of mine made a note on his Facebook how Lucky Star were real. I think these two little fan strips will explain what I'm trying to get at:

These hit a little too close to home for me. To tell you the truth, I felt a bit depressed after reading them. It's sad how cruel humanity can be. These situations aren't really too far fetched when you think about it. :/ Otaku being ignored and even a normal person neglected from existence. I try not to think about things to deeply, but these hit me pretty hard considering my main type of hobbies are close to Konata's (minus mmorpgs).

I'm otaku as they come, yet have never felt like I needed more friends. I'm quite satisfied with my life and there are few things in my past that I'd want to change. Some people might have to try harder depending on their physical attributes, but in many situations being an otaku instead of trying to act out Night at the Roxbury might be much more rewarding. YMMV.

The second is Kagamin Bocchi by Mountain Pukuichi. It's so, so fucking emo retarded but that's why I love it. It follows Kagami and Konata in college, and the troubles they're facing.
All of it that's been released to date is on Danbooru, translated (with overlay notes you can toggle on and off) under the kagamin_bocchi tag (you can view them in order under the Kagamin Bocchi pool, I think they're still being properly added) and each time Mountain Pukichi puts out more it gets upped and translated. Oh, and with a MUCH better translation, there are some pretty top notch translators on Danbooru.
Spoiler for the ~three recent strips: The April Fools strip was EVIL. After meeting up again for the first time in a long time, Kagami and Konata talk and try to act like they're doing ok, but in reality they're both outcasts, depressed, and missing their high school friends. Konata has even started cutting herself. This leads to Kagami and Konata confessing their love to each other and all that good stuff. But in the 4/01 strip, Kagami wakes up... and Konata is gone. As if it were all a dream and Konata really did kill herself. Due to time zone confusion I wasn't sure at first if it was upped on April 1, and so it was EVIL EVIL EVIL. But in the next strip we find it was a dream within a dream, and Kagami wakes up and Konata is still there (in Kagami's bed and naked), and all is well :sd:
Anyway, I love it because I'm a sucker for this stuff, and Kagami x Konata = always win.

The art in the first strip is better, but the second strip was the one that made me laugh.
I'd be lying if I said I couldn't identify with what the strips are getting at, but with that said, they're thankfully not indicative of my own life. Unless they are, and I haven't realized it yet, and my laughing is actually a cry of desperation. Aaaaah!
I must also admit to being distracted by the grammatical error in the subject line, but hey, it's a common one, so...

The art in Kagamin Bocchi never gets good, but there's a vast improvement from the first Kagami-only strips to the current point in the story.

Poor poor subjunctive mood.

Hey. I have two finals tomorrow (Japanese 4930 and Japanese Business) so excuse my poor English. :P
The art in the Kagami strip is poor, but it is nicely colored at least.

Hmmm...Kagami x Konata doujin eh? Hmm...it almost sounds worth checking out. Although one strip seems enough to depress me, much less a whole series. @_@

I've seen much worse coming from individuals who should know better, and from companies in situations that, quite frankly, frighten me if that's the best they can do. While I'm a big proponent of proper English, I also believe in the following:
"If a corporate CEO can get away with it, then so can you!"
This of course is broadly applicable, though I would not recommend it as a way of life.

Well, whether or not it's depressing will depend on how it ends. Also, artist's site, if interested: http://ponpondao.blog10.fc2.com/
He seems to have a short Konata x Tsukasa thing going on back in the high school period but I think it's only a few pages.
Anime fans totally absorbed in Japan need to realize that otaku, or even decent anime fans like most of us for example don't get looked upon or treated so well in Japan.

Wow. Thats some nice stuff. Short and simple enough for me to read too. :D Although it takes a moment to make out some characters. ^^;; It looks like my handwriting... :sweat1: ....maybe even a little worse. heh. :sweat1:

I pretty much feel the same way because I used to act out Night at the Roxbury in my younger days.
Besides they are kind of out of character. Konata always seemed very comfortable with her life the way it is, its Kagami who keep questioning her own lifestyle. (Okay maybe not, but it makes me feel better thinking about it that way.) Besides if her 'friends' treat her that way, they're not friends at all.

I always believed there was an element of wish-fulfillment in Lucky Star even though there isn't much of a male presence. "Hey Otakus, Tired of women looking at you like you're from Mars when you mention anime? Here's a group of really cute girls, and they like anime and video games just as much as you do!"

And then become depressed when you realize you're not "moe" enough for Konata.

It is a great fanservice anime, concerning that. :D Although it mainly is all about Konata...but we all know Kagami has a soft, curious spot for yaoi.

For some reason that makes me think impure thoughts. Just not sure what they are yet.

You're not sure what your own impure thoughts are? If it were me, I'd be pretty sure what my own impure thoughts are. And they wouldn't involve Konata.

I agree, Kagami is a side order like french fries; salty, hot and greasy... wait, what?
