I watch most of my Godzilla films dubbed so it's not exactly stupid. As long as both vocal tracks are there, you get a choice.

So this is an english dub disc as well?From what I've heard the trailer was dubbed but the movie is sub only. The fact that the "dubbing' used sound clips from the english anime supports this.

Are you sure on that? I just watched the trailer and like you said it is dubbed in english, but why would they just dub the trailer and not the entire movie? seems rather pointless to me. could be misleading, like the Beowulf movie. The trailer looked like it was live action to me, and the clips that were shown on AOTS (a show on a channel called G4) looked live action to me as well. So did the case for the DVD, but it was completely CG. Luckily i just rented it as i thought the movie was horrible. I was also pissed because it was a CG movie that was shown off to be live action (at least to me all the stuff i mentioned looked live action)

Also, has anyone watched japanese movies that were dubbed in english? how off can you tell that it was dubbed?

Nice! any word on if its subtitled or dubbed? Ive seen a couple on live action dubbed movies at rightstuf...imo thats pretty stupid to dub over a live action movie...
The movie is Japanese dubbed with English subtitles while the trailer is English dubbed.

Are you sure on that? I just watched the trailer and like you said it is dubbed in english, but why would they just dub the trailer and not the entire movie? seems rather pointless to me. could be misleading, like the Beowulf movie. The trailer looked like it was live action to me, and the clips that were shown on AOTS (a show on a channel called G4) looked live action to me as well. So did the case for the DVD, but it was completely CG. Luckily i just rented it as i thought the movie was horrible. I was also pissed because it was a CG movie that was shown off to be live action (at least to me all the stuff i mentioned looked live action)

Also, has anyone watched japanese movies that were dubbed in english? how off can you tell that it was dubbed?As I said earlier the trailer wasn't really dubbed they just took audio clips from the TV series to replace the Japanese. And in my opinion dubbing live action doesn't work to well because it's more than just lip flaps.

That was the image I was hoping they would use - with L and Light, although it is a blend of 2 other images. The original movie poster was great and that is where the background image came from. I was hoping that they would have more of the body and at least part of the mouth, but oh well. I like it except for that re-positioned apple and that really stupid red sentence! Great, why do most of the DC area screenings have to be located in VA? I really like this movie, and I would have really liked to have seen it on the big screen.

On that note, it sucks that i wont be able to see it in theatres, it is playing in austin texas, only thing though is its 2 nights only and both nights i cant go :( the bleach movie on the other hand i stand a chance at seeing, its playing wednesday and thursday (i can see it on thursday) where as death note is tuesday and wednesday.

Does anyone know if they released a movie theatre list for the Bleach movie yet??

The L character looks completely on target... I'm not too sure about Light but... I don't really like his character at all so whatever for him. Nice to see the LiveAction make the scene.

i agree, but... the L character seems a bit too effeminate in my opinion with all the little nuiansances. guess it's kinda hard to do the same in RL versus animate-form.

I don't understand why everyone thinks it's weird to dub the movie here. ( other than the lip flap thing, yes that does drive me crazy), since other than the diehard sub fans, the abundace of people that are going to go to this film are watching the anime in English and will more than likely expect the film in English. As long as the Japanese track is kept intact on the DVD then I am happy. I keep seeing all these posts of things should be left alone, but you do know that they do dub the things that they get from us in Japan (as well as the abundance of other non English speaking countries.) So what's the difference in them dubbing their imported shows and movies, and us dubbing our imports. Imagine the crazy lip flaps over there. I don't remember seeing any US imports over there subtitled. They were all dubbed in Japanese. They even dubbed Full House the tv show for goodness sake. (it was so weird seeing Uncle Jesse and Little Michelle speaking Japanese to each other LOL)


Edit: and no this is not a what is better sub or dub thing so don't start up a sub/dub argument, because honestly neither is better because it is all in the eye of the beholder. One person likes it one way, another likes it another way, hell, I like it both ways.

im not complainging about it, just stating it out there for those that diddnt know, Ijust think its weird to dub a live action movie in eglish because of the lip sycnh like you said lol but yeah im happy and kinda annoyed that its dubbed, im happy it is because i prefer dubbed over subbed, but also annoyed because then lip synch is going to be completely off and it'll annoy me lol Either way, i want wait until it comes out on DVD to get it (i wont be able to make it to the theatre showing of it sadly :(, and probably the same with Bleach's next month :()

No, I went to the Cinemark in Valley View, Ohio, which is only a 15 minute drive from my apartment. A friend of mine bought the tickets last weekend and I met up with him at the theater.

Just briefly because I'm a little tired but I thought the movie was excellent. I though the first ten minutes of the movie was a bit slow-paced for me, but around the part when Light first meets Ryuk the movie started to pick up some steam. The actors did a tremendous job during the film, and most especially that of Ken Matsumaya, who captured L's mannerisms and odd behavior perfectly.

The plot basically covered the first 10 episodes of the anime. (I don't know how much of the manga it cover since I only read the first volume.) There was some add-ons like Light's girlfriend Shiori and a couple of storylines were handled differently from the anime (like how Naomi Misura died), but I though they did a good job keeping pace with the anime. The overall structure and pacing of the movie was pretty good save for the first 10 minutes, in which were a little show as I mentioned. The last scene when Light and L meet for the first time was very bonechilling and creepy, but well-executed by the two actors.

Also, I want to join Erika Toda's fanclub. She's a total babe :beatingheart: ! (Erika Toda played Misa Amane in case you didn't know.)

I was a little unsure as to how the overdub would sound but I though that VIZ did a good job with it. Of course I didn't expect them to matched the lips word-for-word (that would be next to impossible), but it obviously wasn't done half-assed. Nice that they used the cast for the anime for the movie; I think that was the main reason why the overdub was successfully pulled off. Naturally when I buy the DVD come September 16 I'll watch it in its native Japanese, but I think most English dub fans that watch this movie will like what they hear.

I was pleasently surprised as to the turnout for the movie. I think there was about 200 people that attended the screening. The overall reaction from the crowd was very positive I thought. I definitely enjoyed the Death Note movie and with the way the first movie ended, I am looking forward to watch Death Note 2: The Last Name.

Hell yes! happy to see Death Note movie is dubbed and has all the original actors from the anime are voicing them especially Light,L, and Ryuk. I will indeed buy this when it comes out. So what if the lips are a lil off you get too involved with the story to care. I watched some of Jackie Chans movies when they were dubbed they weren't too bad. Operation Condor I think its called was pretty good. I cannot watched subbed anything I do not watn to read my show. Because I have accidentally rented a few horror movies which looked good and then they were all in subtitles! So watched like the first 10 mins then was bored of reading the subtitles.

For sure, going to add this to the collection. I watched this in the theater and love it a lot. They both look wicked cool on the cover.
