Hi everyone

I searching for an anime I've seen a long time ago. Its a war anime, sort of world war 2'ish, but it's actually a little more advanced than that because they use helicopters and such. I remember it looks fairly old, so I have trouble finding it.

I think the main character is a military genius or something. There is this one episode where the main character is ordered by his superior officer to take down a heavily fortified enemy naval base, and he is only given a small force. Obviously they think hes not going to succeed, but he goes out there with his ships and completes the mission with minimal casualties.

I'm not sure if this is enough information...I've been searching for a long time, but couldn't figure out what series it is. Please help me identify the title, thanks!

I know little about war anime, so it might be

Zipang
The Cockpit

But probably isn't.

Was it a non-mecha anime? Because I suppose it might be Gasaraki.

Maybe it's Flag.

Sorry I'm not being that helpful.

I'm afraid Gasaraki doesn't quite fit the original description of the fighting. Although it does have a number of pitched battles, all of the fighting in Gasarki takes place in urban & desert locales - there simply aren't any naval battles. Furthermore, the protagonist is considered too valuable an asset (because of his ability to augment the TAs & contact the Gasaraki) to simply throw away in a hopeless battle.

If it was a mecha series (which is somewhat in doubt based on the original tech description), my guess would be Mobile Suit Gundam W (a.k.a. Gundam Wing). There are two seperate naval battles (involving Zechs Marquise) that could be considered "hopeless" - with the most prominent one involving him (piloting the Tallgeese) versus a naval fleet (as an alternative to a court-martial).

However, I'm also not that familiar with war anime, so its quite possible that the original poster was thinking of an entirely different series.

I didn't pay enough attention, sorry.

I've seen some, not all of Gasaraki so I was wondering if something similar came up later.

Could it be "Armored Trooper Votoms"?
Really a shot in the dark, since I'd only seen about 1/2 an episode...

.

It sounds like an ep of Gundam Wing... but the episode when Zecks and some guys with Cancer and Aries mobile suits attacked a fortress, and when they killed the surrendering troops, he took them out.... Ep 13 (http://www.mahq.net/animation/gundam/wing/gwep13.htm) in fact

Hi guys, the show has no mechs

Zipang is pretty new, and cockpit doesn't seem like it.

There are battleships, helicopters, mines, rockets... one side had some sort of special cannon placed on the moon, which could detect enemy aircraft and shoot it down...?

obscure oldschool stuff :)

i know of Big Wars and Venus Wars, but they're more sci-fi than what you seem to be looking for and are just one-shot ovas.
