Who is your favorite motherly character in an anime? In other words, these are female characters who have maternal qualities that are apparent in their personality or actions, but are not actual parents themselves.

My favorite motherly character would have to be Konoka from Negima!. Just from her gentle mannerisms, as well as the things she does for Negi throughout the series, Konoka very much reveals herself as someone who would make a fitting parent.

Yakumo Tsukamoto from School Rumble comes in second for me, seeing she always seems to be looking out for her big sister, almost as in a caring, motherly fashion.

Alicia Florence (Aria), hands down.

Would Sensei from Fullmetal Alchemist count? If so, she'd be on my list.

Reki from Haibane Renmei
Misato from Evangelion... even though she's a rather... unorthodox mother figure...
Nuku Nuku from All-Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku (1992 OVA)
Rin from Midori Days... she's about as unorthodox as Misato, though...

I'd say, Tohru Honda and (in a sense) Misato Katsuragi.

EDIT: Ironic that I've been sporting Anime MILF avatars recently :sweat1:

Ah! Thanks, Kiggy, I fogot Tohru Honda! She'd definitely be on my list.

#1 is Kyoko Otonashi :beatingheart: in Maison Ikkoku.

Also Misato in Eva, but she's more "big sister" IMO. Also Hikari in Eva.

Belldandy

Lexshue (Lafiel's mother) in Crest of the Stars & Passage of the Stars (aka Birth)

Nanoha's mother & also Admiral Lindy. The blond knight in A's (forgot name).

Yawara!

Hikaru in KOR

Kaori in City Hunter (& moreso in Angel Heart)

Kaoru in Rurouni Kenshin

Belldandy instantly came to mind but I'll go out of left field and say Washu.

Kasumi (Ranma 1/2) - She's the first one to pop into my head. She's practically the mom for the family, since she does the cooking, cleaning, sewing, etc. Pretty much the whole dojo would fall apart if she wasn't around. However, she is not married and has no children (she's only 19 I think).

I want to say Washu (Tenchi Muyo), even though technically Ryoko is her daughter and according to Wikipedia, she has a natural-born son that was taken away. She's probably one of the coolest and most troublesome moms you could ever wish for. She certainly doesn't do anything domestic but she's pretty much the mom figure around there, being the oldest by 10,000 miles.

She's the first one I thought of, too.

My left-field nomination is Duck (Ahiru) from Princess Tutu; she strikes me as motherly.

My choice is Ami Mizuno from Sailor Moon, unofficial den mother and tutor to ditzy Usagi, ill tempered Rei, tomboy Makoto and boy crazy Minako. That has to count for something.

How could I have forgotten Ami?! Usagi herself is motherly, especially in Stars looking after Chibi Chibi, & she is the soul of the inner senshi. :noodle:

Raquel in Scrapped Princess was my favorite character like that. She is a good mother figure and a pretty powerful magician. What's not to love?

Belldandy from Ah my goddess for sure would be my first thought but there is also Auntie Haruko from Love Hina. She was always helping keitaro with great advice.

Ug how can you watch enough of sailor moon to have a nomination from there *shiver* I may be biased though as I tried to watch about twelve hours of it at once one time in college in order to impress a girl I was interested at the time..

Can we include Men that happen to be protective and expand the definition to include fatherly? Have one I would like to nominate but its a guy....

If we're doing fatherly figures too, the first person that comes to mind is Kanon's Yuuichi Aizawa, most specifically with Makoto.

Hmm, "fatherly" figures, eh? Well, this might be one hell of a reach, but how about Negi Springfield from Negima!? Yeah, yeah, I know he's only 10 and can be something of a baby at times, but any one of any age who successfully ride herd on that 31 girl three ring circus of a class as their teacher (with or without magical powers), doing all he can to teach them gets my vote!

Sailor Moon (Usagi) & Ami have friends..some of them more powerful, meaner, less forgiving than she is.

George & Lewis in Blood+ are both protective & fatherly.
