Gah!
Anyone actually managed to play this game?
It was released Thursday, and the next day I already needed to spend ages downloading a patch (using some sort of in-built bittorrent client, since they asked me to, which made it take even longer). Now I have to create a new Konami ID, since apparently having a PSN ID isn't good enough, only the site never lets me actually do it - constantly get that the page has been "deleted due to inactivity" - the only periods of inactivity have been me waiting for the flipping page to load. If this is what the beta is like I'd hate to see what happens when the game is launched proper.

YOu can't play it until Monday. I downloaded the program, but it wouldn't let me download the 1.1 update, so I'll wait until Monday to do that too.

Well, at least this is the beta. It's the perfect time to iron out bugs and Texas flies like this.

The Konami ID website continues to malfunction for me.

Bad news, Beta has been pushed back until Friday morning due to server failure.

Umm, yeah, you think beta is about you playing games for free? Its about working out bugs.

I've got the beta code and all that, but I probably won't play it... I'm waiting for Metal Gear Offline.

I couldn't be bothered with the Konami ID site continually fucking up so decided to cut my losses and wait for the full game. GTA in 6 days anyway so wouldn't have got much of a look-in!

I'm not talking about bugs, I'm talking about their servers buckling under the pressure.

Thought I'd give it another shot.
I have to download another update.. three downloads before I ever get to play the thing and it's only a demo. At least it seems to be downloading faster than last time (I assume it is a smaller file since the P2P download rate isn't exactly through the roof).

Played it for about an hour and a half. The controls are confusing, but they offer plenty of versatility. The graphics look great. Gameplay is superb. Real CQC is usable this time around. I was even able to save somebody from CQC by going into FPS and shooting the enemy in the head. It kicked ass.

Sounds like MGS 3 online where you had to hold down fifty buttons just to headshot someone. Hopefully they kept that "ding" in when you do so

You've never taken part in a MMO beta have you? They DESIGN the beta to buckle under pressure. This is because they're trying to figure out what the sweet spot is for performance, so they give the servers a higher load than they were designed for, and then slowly introduce caps. As the test goes on they also tweak the network and load balancing code for best results - they can only do this to a limited extent in a lab using load generator code, which is why there's a beta.

All the MMO betas I've been have had horrible load/lag issues in the beginning, but then gets fixed as release date approaches. Frankly, if they actually have servers up and running you can successfully connect to I'd say that's a very good sign.

Well... now it's somewhere in the ballpark of three buttons. Hold L1 to enter aiming mode, tap triangle to enter FPS, and press R1 to shoot while using the analog sticks to move and aim. It is a bit clunky, and I wish they simplified things a bit, but you do get plenty of versatility from the way they set it up.

The funny thing is that I was pretty good with MGS 3 online, you get the hang of it easily. It even had ranks like "Sloth" if you got headshotted to much

This was just when trying to register an ID on the web.
