Heh, Asian regions version. What shows do you own on R2J & R3, which you think only you have in the AoD community.

I don't have many, but think I'm the only AoD poster to own Meimon! Daisan Yakyubu, Tobira Wo Akete and Angel Heart :knowitall:

Well, let's see... Anyone else have any R2J volumes of Koi Koi Seven? I snagged the first volume on a lark while I was at Nakano Broadway last summer. On second thought I have so few R2J/R3's that I may as well list them all.

R2J:

Mind Game (RE)
Dragon Ball Z Vols. 6, 7
Shadow Skill CG OVA
Koi Koi Seven Vol. 1

R3:

Trigun (Cinexus Collection)
Astro Boy 2003 sets 1 and 2

I think H2 and Hiatari Ryoko R2 would be pretty rare around here. Actually, I'm not sure about Hiatari Ryoko.

Not really. I have confidence that leongsh pretty much owns most (or all) of Adachi's anime coz he's seems to be mega-rich for a non-japan resident to be able to actually afford the Touch-boxset in one fell swoop back in the day. H2 and HR costs peanuts combined compared to the Touch boxset. :relief:

Iirc, there was another old AOD-member based in France that also have all of Adachi's anime when he posted his anime-shelves, but I can't seem to remember his handle-name now. I think he even had the ultra-rare Miyuki-boxset.

fwiw, I was gonna buy the H2 boxset back in the day, but I think it went OOP on Amazon.jp rather quickly.

Probably in the minority, but you're not alone :)

I would guess the most obscure R2 DVD I own is the Mahoromatic Comic Gum Special. I think it was a mail-in offer for subscribers. AnimeJungle got in a copy and I bought it off them.

Other stuff that may be some combination of rare/hard-to-get/obscure:
Cardcaptor Sakura TV (original release) with all the boxes & 1st press goods
Di Gi Charat: Final Party Night
Under17: Ura Un 7

I did have these, but along with numerous other things, the first 5 DVDs were stolen when my house got broken into -_- I still have all the packaging though (at my mum's house), so hopefully one day I'll be able to replace the DVDs themselves. Not a priority though since I haven't even finished watching it through once yet, let alone wanted to rewatch the first half.

There's another here who has done the same as me - Thanatos, take a bow too. In any case, the Touch DVD Boxset, even for the price that it was selling at (List price: ¥88,000), is a steal! 0_0 wow, there's a lot more Adachi fans than I thought! I really do have to wonder why none of the show or manga have yet to come across US(I'm guessing Japanese license holder is asking for a heck of a price;;; ). And yeah, I used to want that Touch Box-set so much. It was pretty cheap over the YJ auction too so it was pretty tempting. ~_~ I wonder if any of the AOD member owns LOGH R2 though (I don't have it;;; whoever owns it, hats off to you) And I think the whole Dragon Ball R2 would be pretty much a winner. I saw this guy from Korean forum who owns the whole DB box series + DB singles. Crazy.

A fair number of my R2s are Kyoani titles and these are also pretty popular in general, but must other people seem to have stopped Lucky Star after a volume or two but I have all the LEs (bar the last one due out this month)

I've not seen anyone else here in the orgy or buying threads getting the Dennou Coil LEs (although Dave Stroud is getting the REs).

I'm pretty sure no-one else here has any of the Gigantic Formula DVDs.

I know Fabio also had the Kiddy Grade DVDs but since he's gone.. unless Sakura Shinguji has them (I seem to remember him having the movies at least) I may be alone. I have the first and last R3 volumes also.

I don't think anyone else has the Utakata DVD boxes.

I don't expect anyone else has Oshare Majo Love and Berry: Shiawase no Mahou, and they aren't missing much.

I also have a random Angelic Layer DVD I got cheap (volume 8)

I also happen to have the second Genshiken boxset, the Kujibiki Unbalance box (before they decided to actually make a KujiAn show :knowitall:) But I doubt I'm unique in having these things, as I'm sure there are others that do.

I do have Steel Angel Kurumi Zero. Not sure how many would have that. I also have a couple of the DVD singles of the OVA (the ones with Kurumi and Saki on them).

Hmmm, don't have any Adachi shows, nor Slam Dunk, but sports shows I own that maybe other people don't include:
Air Master - just v5 through 9 to cover what Toei (US) left unfinished
Hikaru no Go - 26 discs (singles)
Princess Nine - bought before R1 license, circa 1999/2000
Attack No.1 (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1186) - complete collector's edition box set
Dokaben (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1308) - the big bento box set

No to Starship Operators (picked up only v1 as a sampler), but yes to Kannazuki no Miko. I think there should be a few others who have that as well.

They are in fact telling what happened if Rumbling Hearts had ended the other way to how it did, starting from Haruka's awakening.I've been collecting these as well. In terms of shows that I highly doubt anyone else collected in R2, going for poor sellers is a pretty safe bet. I'm thinking stuff like Canvas 2, Mamoru-kun, Lamune, and Lovely Idol are all pretty unlikely to be owned by many other English-speakers. Maybe Asatte no Houkou as well. I would add Kagihime and Polyphonica too, but I know at least one more person in each case who bought them.

Weren't the boxes solicited and released at the same time as the singles?I'm pretty sure they were, but the boxes were limited editions, and the singles were/are still available in abundance. Kind of a tricky thread, since I would guess there's likely to be more DVDs from these regions than others that only one person who regularly posts here might own, simply because we buy less of these. Though it looks like there are some interesting shared interests judging from posts thus far.

The R2J discs from my collection that I'm somewhat sure others may not own, or at least have never seen anyone post about that I can recall, are:

- Ao no Rokugo Blue Fleet Box
- Gunslinger Girl DVD Box (first press)
- Bakuretsu Tenshi: Infinity

And, while I do know one other person owns this disc, since he was the one who found me my copy, there's the first episode of the original Lingerie Senshi Papillon Rose. Never bothered with the TV series, since I couldn't find anyone with anything good to say about it.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with complete sets of L'Ecole de Paris and Le Nouveau Paris with boxes (Sakura Taisen 3 OAVs)...

I know Fabio also had the Kiddy Grade DVDs but since he's gone.. unless Sakura Shinguji has them (I seem to remember him having the movies at least) I may be alone.

I finally have the third movie, but I never did acquire any of the TV series discs. I considered the upcoming box sets briefly, before remembering that I don't really feel that strongly about the series.

Or the Kannazuki no Miko R2 box that came with vol.1? I also happen to have the second Genshiken boxset...

I've also got the Kannazuki no Miko volume 1 box, as well as volumes 2 through 4. Despite owning Geneon's R1 release, and being perfectly happy with the job they did, I still have volumes 5 and 6 of the R2s on my "buy eventually" list, since I just can't stand to have a box that's not full.

I don't own the second Genshiken box, but I do own the first one, bought during a CD Japan sale a couple of years ago. I kept meaning to buy the other two, since I want nothing to do with Media Blasters, but thankfully Japan has saved me some money by announcing a box set (as well as an OVA box set) for release next month.

Got you on all three. Actually, since we share such similar tastes, I'd almost be willing to bet I've got everything you got, scarily enough... :sweat1:

Do you or anyone else have Nagasarete Airantou? I hope I'm not the only overseas person that imported it.Yup -- I do indeed. All the little cosplay figures were cute extras. :)

Yup -- I do indeed. All the little cosplay figures were cute extras. :)

I loved those figures. I missed out on the first three that came with certain LEs of the manga though. ;_;

Surely, we can't have the exact same tastes. Please don't tell me you're considering getting To LOVEる from the spring season. :P

Yeah, it was indeed on the short list (probably the only thing other than D.C. II S.S. that I'll get from this season). Just have to make sure I can afford it (darn you, dollar)...

Haruhi dammit. I'm getting D.C.II.S.S. too and To LOVEる (provided I have the funds). I give up. There is nothing I own DVD-wise or ever will own you do not also have (all I have left in my collection are titles I know other people bought, Kanon, Sola, Clannad, Ef, Nanatsuiro★Drops, etc). I don't make enough to win this battle.

Maybe I should try to get into tokusatsu or something.

I have Honey and Clover, both season, all LEs. [And am glad it was back when the exchange rate was better. If it were today…not a chance].
Seriously. On my last order from AmazonJP in April, the rate I got hit with was 99yen to the dollar. I'm trying to be very selective with the dvds I import. I do have my Oofuri live event dvd shipping next month, along with tons of cds...I'm praying for the rate to at least hold steady if not improve.

It's pure guess work, really. I know that you've seen it and think highly of it, and considering from your comments, you tend to buy R2 DVDs of stuff you're quite fond of. Made a similar judgment of Teisuu's habits.

My obscurest of obscure:

* Ninja Kamui Gaiden movie
* Nanatoshi Monogatari OVA (A Tale of Seven Cities(?))
* Sequence OVA
* Hidamari no Ki TV (A Tree in the Sun)
* Anne of Green Gables TV
* Pollyana TV 1-6
* 3,000 Leagues in Search of Mother TV (R3 w/subs)
* A few other World Masterpiece Theater disks

Some I forgot because I have them listed under "Goods" instead of "DVD" releases.

Interceptor Doll Hoihoi-san volume 1 w/DVD
Otogi-jushi Akazukin Konami Figuanime Project #1 w/Figure & DVD

I was tempted to also list the March 2003 volume of Newtype because it came with the Neon Genesis Evangelion Renew Special DVD but pretty sure someone else here has it.

Let's see... I own volumes 1 & 5 from the first season and all six from Second Barrage on R2. In addition to, I also got the seven volumes of the manga & "Rei Hiroe Artworks: Barrage." Good stuff!

Well I'm also one of the few that have both Sakura Taisen 3 OAVs LEs (Ecole de Paris and Le Nouveau Paris) and also the LE box of Su-Mi-Re.

Other things I think I'm in the minority of people who owns them:

Boys Be R2J including the box
Elfen Lied LE Vol.1
Maria-sama ga Miteru LE LD packaging for season 1-2, the countless fandiscs, and the LE boxes of season 3.

For me it's ~almost~ same as with tseniv. Purchased the first series of BLACK LAGOON (even double-dipped on the the *if I remember off-hand correctly* fifth DVD because silly me hasn't spent much attention to the Amazon.jp order status ^_~). But due to the content/price ratio decided against going for The Second Barrage.
But while not Anime yet ~somehow~ related I do have Rei Hiroe's BLACKLAGOON Anime Shuuryou Kinenhon (http://dragonautics.co.at/community/usrpages/lhnl/blog/?p=121) if that counts ^_~

Other then that I guess not much Anime DVD purchases that I'd think I'm the only one on this board having done. Well maybe I am the only person crazy enough having gone for all 5 Boxes of MONSTER and the "all-set purchase priviledge" MONSTER Premium DVD (http://dragonautics.co.at/community/usrpages/lhnl/blog/?p=35). I certainly know (due to the request - increasing service fee due to these deputy service M-World Masato got ^_~) that I'm not the only person having gone for the CLANNAD Invitation (http://dragonautics.co.at/community/usrpages/lhnl/blog/?s=monster+premium) DVD (and Keyholder).
And while not *Anime* I guess there aren't that much people on this board that spent a fortune to go for the Mutant Dwarf PRESENTS Dwarf-tachi no Tsudoi♪ ~ 2 Kobushime ~♪ KOTOKO 2006 - 2007 Count Down Special Live (http://dragonautics.co.at/community/usrpages/lhnl/blog/?p=82) DVD.

I'd love to have that Black Lagoon book, can they be bought anywhere now? Tex Mex is Rei Hiroe's doujin pseudonym, according to Wiki. Rei Hiroe's "Barrage" doesn't have enough BL pics, (but I like the couple of Fate/Stay Night ones.)

I have all of Sarutobi Ecchan and Dororon Enma-kun on DVD. I pretty sure no one else here has those series. I also got the R2 of the Sukeban Deka OVA.

I own R2 Robot Carnival.

Anyone own Transformers Movie or Street Fighter II MOVIE in R2? Cause I have those, and I don't know anyone else that does.

I bought them before Mangle and Sony released better versions in the states. Couldn't stand the craptacular versions that had been put out previously.

I used to have The Transformers: The Movie in R2, but I recently sold it on Yahoo Japan for 11,500 yen. The A/V quality on it does suck, but it is a pretty rare disc nowadays.

Don't have the SFII R2 DVD, but I do have it on LD, found it for 150 yen in Akihabara.

All are R3 with Japanese/Cantonese audio, no English subtitles

Slam Dunk
Full Metal Alchemist
DBZ entire series
Naruto boxsets 1-6
Hunter X Hunter 1-62 and both OVAs
Cyber Formula Zero, Saga, Double One, Sin
Creamy Mami

The R3 market is growing fast which is deterring me away from R1. The Cantonese voices are very good especially in shonen/fighting series, but for space sci-fi series like Gundam, I have to stick with the R1 Japanese dub.

I have the R3 Creamy Mami TV sets. No OVAs however, which the R2 sets did have.

Got the R3 Chinese dub-only "Sunny Spot" movie, which is "Hiatori Ryoko" movie.
"Dog of Flanders" & "Story of Perrine" TV box sets also.

Probably what nobody else has are the R3TW re-mastered "Kimagure Orange Road" TV & OVA box sets, & R3 "Shonan Bazukozen"(sp) sets.

Those are the ones. They might also be sold from Yesasia.

They are not as good as the R2J remasters, but are better quality than Animeigo's. (There was a comparison pic posted once but it was removed just because a bootleg cap comparison was included :anger200: )

Proware gave their re-master TV episodes a stereo sound track(!) The colour tint is a bitter cooler/blue-green in places but nothing TV adjustment can't fix. The primary colours are brighter & sharper than Animeigo's DVDs. As the openings are every 2 episodes, it looks like the Japanese DVDs were used.

If you don't need English subtitles, & can't afford the R2J sets, the R3TW are IMO a good bargain. I've not watched the OVAs yet for comparison, but expect those to be OK too.

Thanks! I do wonder though how they managed to put together a stereo sound track for the TV series?!? The R2J sets were on my "to buy eventually" list, but a stereo sound track now certainly makes me prefer the R3TW sets, even if there was no price difference.

They are a good 2nd choice.

BTW as you are in Europe, there is a (poor video quality) R2 PAL French release of KOR. It is dubtitled from the French dialogue release with the dub names (e.g. Max = Kyosuke), but the Japanese language is there.

http://madoka.ayukawa.free.fr/3309big.jpg

French OVAs set is likewise, but better quality & comes with the Shin KOR novel translated into French. Movie 1's set is better still as it has an extras disc that includes an interview with Akemi Takeda & Shin KOR 2 novel in French. Shin KOR movie itself has a booklet by France's leading KOR fan (I'd like to meet him), & the Shin KOR 3 novel in French.

You sure the stereo track isn't just the mono audio encoded to both the left and right channels (what's usually done with DVD)? Is it really a true stereo track with different left and right information, Njr?

Njr Scrawl
06-19-2008, 12:34 PM
There is some, but its not that noticable. Mainly character speech seemed more the speaker's side than the other. Proware do their own audio enhancements (my word) generally. A lot of DTS on their DVDs that the Japanese releases don't have, e.g Evangelion TV. If they attempted to make a mono show stereo, I would not be surprised.

Its been a couple of years since I watched my R3 KOR, as the R2J sets have replaced them for DVD quality (I still watch my AE LDs as well), so my memory is a little rusty.

Innocent Bystander
06-23-2008, 07:32 PM
Njr, I already own the AnimEigo DVDs and the French manga and novels, so I'm basically fine. I was only planning to buy the R2J DVDs for better video quality (and possibly better sound). With regard to the R3TW release, would you say the video quality is closer to the R1 or closer to the R2J release? And is the music noticeably in stereo? That would actually be a lot more important to me than directionality of character speech. Maybe you could do me a favor and take a quick look at your R3 discs again.

Re: Adachi. Ok, some guys have the Hiatari Ryoukou and/or Touch DVDs. But do you have both the LD AND DVDs for Touch and HR and Touch on VHS?? Do you have the kanzenban versions of the manga?!! Do you live in Gunma to be close to Adachi-sama's birthplace and to steal his Touch-style advertisements for the Gunma Diamond Pegasus baseball team? You have a long way to go before you're as insane and foolish as me. :P
