The cover looks pretty good. It gives it that epic feel
that'll make some people pick it up for the cover alone.

That sun in the background does help with the epic feeling... I'll be getting the previous digipack though. I've been meaning to get that for quite some time now.

Not a bad cover. I have been considering this one, and the cover does nothing to dissuade me.

That cover is alright, but I preferred the water color covers of the individual releases. They used them for the 1st boxset which was nice, but they would have to make a distinction between that and the new one. The big setting/rising sun does it.

Urgh why couldn't they switch this cover art and give it to the good set.*sigh*
Now that's what I'm talking about! Great artwork and the viridian logo fits in. Too bad it's a viridian collection.

I still have not bought any of the releases of this series. Is the Viridian Collection really "that" bad? I love this particular artwork...it matches the t-shirt I have. :)
Wow. Nice cover. Wish this is what they used for the complete collection.

It looks great. Much better then the other complete collection
I wonder if it will also include the artwork booklets has it does in the old complete collection

If you don't mind shoving the discs into cardboard sleeves. It's a lot like the "There Will Be Blood" cases, which is why I won't be buying that movie until the Blu-Ray release.

The cover is so nice, yet they have this large unfitting Viridian logo right there in the corner and it's really distracting. It would be best left for only the spine. I guess it's really doesn't matter though.
Seen the whole series thanks to a friend's SE collection (the one with the sweet extras), though I don't actually own it for myself. Would buy this ver. for the cover, but I do want those SE boxes... =/

This is a great image, which is spoiled by the Viridian logo color choice (or being a Viridian set, for that matter).

I'd do what I did with Stargate SG-1 complete series an buy the appropriate amount of Thinpak cases...whether they be doubles (holding two discs) or singles....

That's what I get from that. It seems like it would be in a thinpak packaging instead of those sleeves or whatever you may call them. If this was a thinpak, even if it had the whole viridian logo, it wouldn't be a bad one to get.

Like what posted for the BECK: Complete Collection. Here it is again. Since it's Viridian, it just won't have any plastic packaging.
There maybe a chance that this could be a thinpak, but I doubt it. The packaging may be similar to the Moonphase: Complete Collection. Look at this post (http://animeondvd.com/aodvb/showpost.php?p=1246192&postcount=1) courtesy of Flood.

How much do you think they'll charge for this? The previous "complete" collection is still a bit pricey so I keep putting off picking it up.
What else will be significantly different between the previous "complete collection" and this "Viridain Collection"?

Retail price is $49.98. But with discounts at places like DVD Pacific (http://dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=961259), the real price is $28.21.

All Viridian Collections (complete collections) should be in digipaks. The key differences (between the regular collection and VC) is just the packaging and the packaging material (environmentally friendly). While the pricing is affordable for these Viridian Collections, there are issues with the sturdiness for the collection and the possible proneness for disc scratches. FUNimation is supposedly be looking into improving these issues, so right now we don't know if this is improved with this release.

Hm, I may give this a shot. The price is decent enough and I like that coverart. I never got into this when it released as singles because I kinda felt uneasy about an anime adapting one of my favorite movies.

Are they cutting out the booklets from the Viridian releases? That may be enough for me to stick with the prior set....

What exactly are the booklets anyway? I thought they were just breakdowns of the animation in story board form. If so, it may be worth it for me to go for this over the other boxset due to lack of funds (I barely get the booklets read in most of my DVDs to begin with).

There were two different booklets for this series. The first type were in the LE version only, which were storyboard booklets. The other type were in both versions (RE and LE), which contained info on the show (character bios, staff interviews, production art, ect...) its self.
The booklets in the in digipak are the latter.

We've noticed some concerns in forums about our Viridian Collection packaging. Some said they weren’t going to buy Viridian Collections because they didn't like the cardboard flip book style.
Good news! We listened to you. We ditched that packaging, and going forward, beginning with Burst Angel, all Viridian Collections are now in slimpacks, including Samurai 7.

Though there is no Japanese Blu-ray release mentioned, it could be possible. I'm crossing every part of my body at least. I'd do anything to see Agito's Silver Hair in HD. ANYTHING.

Could you take some pictures please? I'd really like to know the thickness/style of this release. Thinpak, with a sturdy box, ala ADV thinpaks with thick chipboard boxes, or thinpak ala Funimation thin card 'boxes' (foldarounds)?

I don't have a digital camera. Hopefully someone else can help you out.
But I'll vouch for its sturdiness. It is a thinpack. It's not ADV level (but then again, the only ADV set I have is NGE, but surely it's doesn't need to be THAT thick), but it's definitely better than previous VC collections I've seen (Gunslinger Girl could be bent around without even removing the shrinkwrap!). By removing the thin DVDs inside (4 total BTW, with 2 discs in the first three and 1 in the last), you can bend the box somewhat inwards, but not by that much.
Honestly, as long as you don't get abusive on the thing, it should remain in good shape.

I am a bit of a packaing nut,and this is good to hear !
Can you say what the video quality is like of the actual disc's/epsiodes ?
I am on the fence right now,as I know a place that has 18 of the LE box's full and ready to go,and then, there's this... I am really wanting the LE set,but this would save me near 70 USD.How many eps are they cramming on a dvd with this release ?
This is why I have held off on many a Funi set,as I keep hearing about how the video quality is just ok to bad.

Hmm yeah Rightstuf's pictures for it show the art off quite nicely, but I wonder if it's the same thick chipboard as Funimations releases around that time, or maybe even chipboard that is so thick it feels like wood
I find it strange they'd not just have released the artbox on its own, considering people might be wanting to put the singles from the LE's into an artbox instead of the bit package each individual LE came in (or so I've seen).

Heh, that's odd. The images Right Stuf's listing shows there are for the space holder, not the box. Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F5GOH8/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=) show's one side and the spine anyway. The other side has the remaining three Samurai on it.

That is kind of strange. I didn't notice it until you mentioned it. It's a pretty good chipboard artbox.

I even scored the artbox when it was shortly re-listed on TRSI a month or so back...

Now the amazon image is one that really draws my eyes! I like it!

Here (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v635/retributionzero/Samurai%207/) is the real Samurai 7 ArtBox to hold Volumes 1-7. Sorry I didn't rotate and frame the images, but I'm rather lazy tonight. I snapped pics of my personal artbox so...click and see....

Oh wow it looks great! Thick-ish chipboard. But I guess this is meant for people who originally collected the regular editions, because there's a volume 7 limited edition (like the first 6 other limited editions) as well.

Perhaps, but depending on space limitations it was also useful for LE collectors that double dipped. I really like the box and cannot wait to fill the rest of it... need 2 of the LE's.... I hesitated too long on the volumes in TRSI's bargain bin.... :sd:
